Has anyone noticed that there is a large ad on almost every page that has some kind of junk food, like cookies on it? I mean, come on! This is supposed to help people not tempt them! haha oh well, my boyfriend says that it is their secret tool for testing our resolve. but seriously! what the heck?
No, I use Firefox with Adblock Plus as an add-on. I never see any adverts when surfing the net! ![]()
Same here. I also use Firefox and AdBlocPlus - I never see those ads ![]()
I totally hear ya! The one that used to be on here for Jello Gelatin snack packs used to make me laugh... Like when I'd be logging in my chicken from dinner, and the ad would switch and say "Why eat 160 cals when you can have just 10?" I'd always think, mmmm Jello w/ mashed potatoes and green beans, now that's a meal! These ones on here for splenda lately are driving me crazy though, when you scroll over them they open right up and cover half the page! Grrr!
Firefox and ABP!
I don't block everything though, just choosing what I don't want to see - like things that roll out over the page, ladies with a teeny tiny tummy that are suddenly made impossibly perfect if you spend a bunch of money on this miracle product now ads, and high fat sugarfree products. So far the phone and car ads don't bother me and since the ads are why the site is free, I figure watching those are my form of payment.
I blame the ad with the splenda cookies for single-handedly causing my urge to binge on sweets (I normally don't care for sweets).
Brownies, ice cream, cookies, sugary pancakes, pie.... I've binged on 30,000 calories in the past week and a half thanks to these sugar-cravings. D:<
This site likes to show me a splenda ad. In the add there are chocolate chip cookies. It is advertising using splenda in favorite recipes instead of sugar. It's also annoying! It's one of those stupidfold out ads.Whenever I get semi close to the stupid thing it folds open right over what I'm reading with some dumb cookie recipe! Lol. It's obnoxious to say the lease.
I normally get the Miracle Acai Berry ads. Or diet pills. Or "hey fatso, take this pill and your intestine will shrink - you'll be skinny with no effort!" (Though it has been getting better - there's a nice NYPD ad down there now!)
I think the ads are picked based on what other sites you've visited (so much for privacy!). I've never seen most of the ads people complain about; I mostly get ads for Indian food, travel sites and games. :-)
So, I guess if you don't like the ads you get, clear out your temporary internet files and cookies and see if you get better ones?
That Splenda add is driving me nuts. It's not making me hungry but it always take up the whole page even when I don't click on it.
Actually the AD I have on my page right now is for the Hilton Garden Hotel! Ha Ha... Although sometimes I get this really ANNOYING Splenda ad just like my3sons which if you put your mouse over it takes up the whole page! It's so annoying and doesn't go away!!! If someone is reading this & can do something about it... please do! ha ha!
Oh but when I search things, generally the ads are according to what I search for... and sometimes the ad even knows what city/state I'm in, even when I travel!! Eerie, no? ha ha.
I've seen the same thing... ads for cookies, cake and pie every time I go to log my onion soup lunch. There are no other sites I visit except this one which indicate my interest in these things. It's obvious that the advertising dudes have figured out that most people visiting a calorie count site are going to have a sweet tooth.
That's what annoys me about it... It's like sexual predators who go to recovering abuse therapy sessions because they know they'll find victims there... so when you're trying to recover, someone else is using that knowledge to ply your weaknesses.
I don't mind ads on principle. I did find a neat fruit snack from an ad here, which is actually useful. But ads showing cookies? Not only do they make me mad... and make me not want to visit this site... but they're bad ads. If I succomb to my cookie craving, you better believe those cookies are going to have real sugar and not that splenda crap.

Not really. Web pages "sell" site real estate to google which then uses things like cookies, etc to populate the site with "relevant" adds. Ah got to love technology.

Yea like Longhorn Steakhouse, Stop and Shop Quarter pound burger beef and the one with jello gelatin pudding. I think these ads are purposely put there to tempt everypne to want to eat more. loll just ignore it. Even though i would like a steak.
I didn't notice any of the fold out ads until I started adding splenda to my counter. Also, I was trying to figure out how many calories I would save if I got the bulk splenda and used it for baking instead of sugar. CC got that way wrong. The splenda version had more calories per cup than sugar.
I usually have travel ads. Can't say I've noticed any cookie ads. The one I have now is a "Fly to Thailand" ad...
I see the Splenda add a lot too and it always makes me think to myself 'I should bake some cookies!'....yeah, it is like a sublimial message. And that is a hard one for me because I like to bake but then I also like to eat. haha.
The other one I always see is #1 Rule to obey to get a flat stomach....and again I want a flat stomach but I doubt whatever they are peddling will give me one! Ha!
and I am doing Pilates, running and steadly losing weight and that has not given me a flat stomach. I doubt a cream or whatever it is will help, short of lipo.
I think that's it, the Splenda add is popping up because I use 2 packets every morning in my coffee.... I did a whole paper about target marketing, now I feel kinda stupid.![]()
I see the Spenda ad...or at least I did way too much until mozilla firefox. I never use fake sugar. I do post to recipe groups so that may be why.
I also get tons of truck ads. That is probably due my profile and the groups I joined. Unfortunately for them, I am not a Bubba so it's a waste of time.
They missed the target both times. LOL
How many times a week can I eat tilapia?
There is no limit on tilapia. Certain oily fishes and regional fishes may limited due to their risk of contamination with mercury and other substances... Read more
