My mother is considering the website and would like to know how many retirees (diabetic too) have had success with CC.

58 yr old retiree here. I use the site for the calorie count and have learned a lot from the forums. I'm not diabetic but the site can't hurt.
My aunt is 50.. and she's sort of here.. *sort of* Lol, she's kind of lurking all the time.. she likes reading other people's stories, though.
I am 45, and was looking for people my age on here to "connect" with. But, I have found that it really doesn't matter how old everybody is, for the most part. We are all here with a common goal, and the support is really great. Tell your mom to join and post a message asking for her specific cronies to indentify themselves. She will have a lovely circle of friends in no time!
63 here. With agressive venous stasis [plus dermatitis], it was just time for me to get losing. This is a really splendid website for keeping on track!

70 here, just joined. A friend tells me she has lost 13 pounds in little over a month, and this site has been a great help to her. So here I am ... if I could lose 12 pounds, I'd be SO happy. I love food, love dessert, and I eat out with friends about 8 to 10 times a week. It's so hard to eat sensibly.
not over 65 yet, but getting there soon. i'm only 59, turn 60 in august. love this site. can't imagine life without it. tell your mom we'd LOVE to hear from her!!!
ps all you "newbies" please post a profile--we love to hear where you're from! and what you're doing.

Ok, I'll go post a profile - I don't have a picture yet but if I remember (ADD is *such* a pain...) I'll have my phys. therapist (tendonitis in knee) take one. It will be my first since my driver's license pic.
I have 201 pounds to lose...anyone else at that grand number? I could use a buddy.

One thing I found out quite by accident is that I'm extremely sensitive to nitrates. That manifested itself by really nasty cellular swelling and fluid retention. I took myself off all the nitrates I could find in foods I was enjoying, and not only did I eliminate the swelling, but the irrational 'gotta have it' cravings I had for pizza and processed meats.
Even then, I didn't consciously attempt to lose weight, but when I went to my doctor about three weeks later, I'd managed to drop 16 pounds. With a start like that, I decided to keep on with the nitrate elimination, AND start a purposeful diet. I do know how to create balanced meals, so that's not a problem, but when I really just must have food in volume (psychological drive that most of us know so well!) I open a couple of cans of stewed tomatoes and a can of mushrooms and go at it. Given what is known now about tomatoes, it's a rather healthful bingeing nutritionally, if still counterproductive psychologically... :o)
Nitrate elimination may not be the solution for everyone, or for that matter anyone else, but it sure worked for me, and is really easy to do. All one has to do is eliminate processed meats like bacon, ham, lunch meats. Instead have 'natural' meats like home-cooked and sliced poultry and beef and pork, etc. Otherwise, just read labels--they're required to be listed. It took less than a week for me to notice a difference.
Tuesday I'm going to get weighed again... I'll let you know what my progress is.

I just added photos - one current DL picture, one from 1990 which is at about 260. I thought I was hopelessly fat THEN. Lots of changes in attitude since then, but none of them helped the gaining. That's going to change.

Thanks for all your replies,
I will forward this stuff on to her - Mum has struggled with weight loss ever since I was born (youngest of 5) - and has tried most diets. She is also coeliac (gluten allergy) and diabetic, and now has lost mobility through an undiagnosed hip and knee problem. Thus excercise is also a problem for her.
Fingers crossed!

Bumping this up so Mum sees it.....
Hi! I'm 64 and retired. I have some medical/physical problems, not related to weight, that prevents me from getting much exercise, but I'm slowly losing weight with the help of the friends I've made here. I too have dietary restrictions - I have to restrict sodium and sometimes fluids, but I've been able to come up with good meal plans using the tools.
Being retired means that I have the time to prepare almost all my own meals. I don't have to worry about what to take to work, or have for lunches out.
The nice thing about CC is, there are people here from all age groups and you can find things in common with people no matter how old or how young. We're all trying to get healthy!
Hope to see your mom here!
