As a new CCer, i've lost about 8 lbs in 4 weeks, but it seems like it comes off everywhere first, then my midsection seems like nothings changed! I am 5"6 and 130lbs and would love to get the flat hard stomach i have never had but just do not believe my body will allow it, it seems i always have a gut...does anyone believe otherwise, i'd love to hear from you.

me to . iam Dieing for this and iam sooooooooo close. i can kinda see one forming but its just NOT quit there.. sit ups and stuff help i think . maybe not who knows . maybe someone can help us ; ]

I don't think just anybody can get a six pack with just diet and exercise.  If you started off not far from your ideal weight I'd say yes...but generally speaking I think no.  I will never have a visible six pack without some sort of surgery because when I do get down to a good weight my body will still have excess skin issues.

This is completely my opinion...but Autumn, if that's you in the picture I believe you, with the right kind of work can get one.

Contrary to popular belief sit ups aren't what give you abs, cardio and a low fat diet do... If you follow the right program then you should be able to get the abs you want!
Get your bodyfat % down to 7% period.

maintain the cardio routine you're currently doing, but also add toning exercises that will target the areas you want to work on.  getting a full on 6-pack really is a hard feature to get though (especially for females), so don't get discouraged if you don't look like janet jackson.  every body is different, it just may take a lot more effort for your body type.  i'm a wrestler & it's a demanding sport, & even when i'm at the top of my game i cant seem to get beyond the 4 pack.
body fat down the 7%, yikes i don't even know my current body fat...how can i measure this?
Everybody already HAS ABS. You just have to lose the layer of fat on top.

Diet and exercise will give you 6-pack abs. But you must be consistent and dedicated!
What?! If you are a woman, you should NOT go down to 7%!!!!!!!!!

The absolute lowest percentage a woman should have in body fat is 10%. Anything lower than that and it is extremely unhealthy. Athletic woman have anywhere between 14-20% body fat.

I sure hope the ladies aren't shooting for 7%. 7% is fine/safe for guys. It's a potential health issue for women.

I noticed when I was 11 or 12 that women are built a little different then guys. Laughing Those differences mean higher bf levels.

It is unhealthy to have a body fat percentage of less the 3 for men and ten for woman. So aim for lower body fat % like 15 but reall you should talk t a nutritionist or someone who makes their living in the health feild. as far as abs go low fat diet and cardio. Also working the abs do help once you got it to where you can see your six pack depending on how ripped you want to be. I am happy that i have slightly defining muscle tone lines on my arms and legs. and a slight muscle tone strip down my stomach.
oh and for me personally if I have a body fat percentage of less then 30 you can see my abs muscles you shuld look up what is normal for your body type.
The only way to get a 6-pack is from dieting and cardio. You can do crunches til the cows come home and not see anything (of course you still need to do some ab exercises).

Some people are just born with good genes and have to do less work to get that 6 pack, others have to work a little harder, and some might never see it at all. It just depends where your body stores fat.

I don't understand why any woman would want a 6-pack.  It's very unattractive on women.  A shapely figure with curves is much nicer.  But what do I know, I'm a guy.  I really don't even think they are necessary on a guy, although a trim, firm waist with a hint of a 6 pack is nice.  A nation of mostly overweight/obese people obsessing on getting a 6-pack (which requires like 5% or less body fat) seems kinda insane...

Nobody here in Japan obsesses about 6 packs, but then again, most people here are very trim...

udokier: i think getting a six pack is a great idea, if thats what you want then go for it.  i dont think it should be limited to just males, & while i respect your opinion, i also believe that everybody has their own view of what is attractive.  many women, like guys with six packs.  it isnt a crime for females to have some definition either, looking and feeling in shape can have a huge effect on a womans confidence.

so for the cc runner, more power to you!  i hope you achieve your goals!

lolanilly: Not saying that I thing having a 6 pack is a bad thing, but what I am saying is that it's not a normal state for most people to have their body fat that low.  If one is an athlete in training, and the 6 pack is a result of that, it seems fine to me but for a regular person with a typical lifestyle to try and maintain such a low body fat percentage seems a bit obsessive and possibly detrimental to long-term health.

You are right about the different tastes thing, though.  But from my experience, most men are not into terribly skinny or muscular women.  I hate to hear of women trying to attain such an extreme goal as a six-pack just because of the influence of a bunch of Nike "Just Do It"-type advertising.

And while a 6 pack may be each individual's prerogative, I still maintain that the ultra-low body fat required to display on is probably not the best thing for long-term health.  Most doctors say that anything less than 20% bodyfat on a woman is too low.  Menstruation may even stop with 6-pack body-fat levels.  For a man, anything under 8% is supposed to be too low.   The skinniest I ever got in my adult life was 12% body fat, and I felt pretty damn thin then.  I cannot imagine whittling myself down a 5% bodyfat!

I personally like a six pack on a girl, though not the really muscular type, just the lightly toned / slightly visible ab look.

I also don't think I will need to go down as low as 7% for a six pack.  I'm already seeing my four pack popping through at about 20%, and most of my remaining fat is around my stomach and chest.  I think that you can up that figure by working out the abs properly.  Most people overdo the abs, which keeps them looking nicer when they're visible, but won't build them, so you'll have to get rid of more fat.
