This week I worked out 5 times Monday thru Friday. But on Saturday and Sunday I did nothing. Do these two none working days effect the days I did work out? As in, should I have done something?
Yes, and the effect of resting for a day or two is that you are most likely work out more efficiently the rest of the time. ;)

Well as long as you feel you are doing great as far as calories then no you did not have to do anything on Saturday and Sunday. It is okay to take a break for a day or two from exercising and just relax on those days eating up to your maintenance calories (at least that is what I do on my off days.) Good luck and don't stress too much over it or you will wear yourself out and give up. :) You can do it!
some people might find that excessive exercising anyway, not me but i am a bit crazy for fitness anyway. did you really do nothing sometimes on my break days i go for a long walk, and i feel like i really did noting but in reality it was some fitness. i find breaks good for my body, it makes me enjoy my next work out much more
iinstead of thinking of exercise and diet as a daily thing look at the big picture... I look at my week as a whole, rather than day to day, so if I do 45 minutes of cardio 5 times in a week that's 225 minutes, which is alot. it doesn't matter whether I do 225 minutes of cardio in three days or five or seven - to my body its all the same - calories out are calories out... And that way I don't feel bad about skipping the gym. And this is coming from a recovering exercise addict (literally, as in anorexia through exercise). I seriously NEVER feel bad anymore when i miss a day because I don't focus on each day, each hour of exercise, each calorie, etc. It makes it way easier to understand diet and exercise.
