Can anyone please tell me
i am 5ft 4 and 132lbs, i have ordered a size 10 US wedding dress, is that considered, small, big or average to you? I tried on the size 14 US and that was HUUUUUUGE but the lady at the bridal studio is adament that i need a size 10, im not so sure, im wondering if i should really be an 8. my stats are 32G-28-36 now but i want to get down to 32F-26.5-35 and i will do it. Please help i think she has made a huge mistake!
I think it depends on the designer. I'm 135 and 5'6 and my dress is a size 8 but in general, bridal gowns have not gone through the same size inflation (or deflation) that regular clothes have experienced.
Better to have it a little too big, and get it taken in closer to the date, than have it too small.
Listen to the bridal consultant, they usually know best. Keep in mind that the difference between a size 14 and a size 10 wedding dress is considerable. While the size 10 may not be a perfect fit when you get it, you can have it altered, whereas if the size 8 is too small you won't be able to do much about it.
One final thought that may make you feel better... wedding dresses are not created the same way as regular clothing. Generally speaking, wedding dress sizes tend to be smaller than regular clothes.
Congratulations! When's the big day?
thankyou all, i guess you are right she should know her stuff! plus its a corset so i guess that gives room for more adjustment. the big day isnt until may next year but am planning to lose the weight and then maintain it so i havent got the added stress of a diet when its all in full swing
I think due to your cup size a 10 would be best. just remember there is always altering to do! I needed a 10 for my hips! and they took in the bodice to almost a 6!
My brother's fiancee was looking for a dress and they told her that it's usually 1-2 sizes bigger than a normal dress because they add so many layers to a wedding dress. So if I wear a size 10 dress from, say, the Gap, you might wear a size 12 or 14 wedding dress.
I agree with v_avila, I would go with what the consultant is thinking. I was married in October and when we ordered my wedding dress I almost died. According to the dress maker's sizing charts, I was supposed to wear a US 22 size dress (I weigh 200 lbs, but carry it somewhat well and normally wear a 14 dress, sometimes 16). My chest measurements was what had pushed it up to that size and when I tried it on for the first time, it literally fell off (don't worry, this isn't a horror story
). After they altered it, it was perfect. I mean fit like a dream. So, long story short, don't put much stock into the actual size on the dress, because all that matters is how it'll fit when it's finished being altered! Best of luck!
Hm this is a tough call... in the US there are sizes... 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 & 24... There are sizes after 24 but generally they are found in specialty stores geared toward the large woman/man... Everyone's body shape, tone & build is different... a 4'11'' girl could be a size 4 if she had a lot of muscle and a large frame... while a 5'8 girl could be a size 2 if she (were a celebrity, ha ha) has a small frame... It seems to me that you have nice measurements and a size 10 would probably work out for you, but I only really say this because the lady at the bridal store probably knows what she is talking about. I would trust her judgement.
amethyst is right, its all abt the designer.
just like diff brands and kinds of shoes fit differently.
dont worry so much abt the number on the tag as how the dress fits your body.
you should change clothes to fit you and flatter YOU not always the other way around.
I thought I read somewhere that wedding dresses were not vanity sized like most clothes meaning their sizes haven't changed over the years, meaning that one will go a size or two up compared to what you buy in other stores?
I haven't read the other posts yet (sorry to everyone). Wedding dresses have no size guidelines and every dress can be different. The size 10 I tried on years ago was a bit snug, so we ordered the 12. It came in and was tighter than the size 10! Luckly, two size 12 dresses had been ordered and I got to the store before the next girl - so they switched the dresses. My "new" size 12 was too big. Which worked well because we were able to tailor it to fit perfectly.
My point: you have more options if it is a bit too big, whereas there is little they can do if it is too tight.
Congratulations!
