So I have always been thin. Then puberty happened and boom!. i was 108 from grade 6 until grade 9. Then by the end of grade 9 i was 116. Now im118- 120. My goal is 115. I am only 5'1 and small body frame ( my wrists are only 2''). I tried everything. Eating 1200 cals, 1600cals. I burn around 300-500cals 6 times a week of cardio. Plus i do some strength training. I now cant eat less then 1500 without starving. All summer i ate 1200 cals, lost a pound then gained it back. What am i doing wrong? i am female btw and have been struggling to lose these 5 pounds for almost 8 months.
Sweetie, this is very natural, from what my experience has taught me. Puberty almost always causes weight fluctuations. My advice would be to not worry about it to much, just eat healthy, and exercise regularly. If you're really concerned, either go see your doctor or just ask him/her about it on your next check up. I'm sure you're fine though.
118-120 is NOT a bad weight for you. Think about this: You are growing into your woman's body...you won't be a kid forever. Maybe if you are worried about the weight you are at, you should talk to a nutritionalist. I don't think eating 1500 or 1200 calories is enough for a teen.
Here is a
BMI calculator for younger people.
It will give you a basic idea of where you are at, weight-wise.
I remember when puberty hit! I was so MAD at the extra fat, the growing chest, and I wanted my child-body back! But this is a natural thing... as someone else mentioned, you are turning into a young woman.
I also agree with hanshock that you might not be eating enough calories. You need good nutrition and enough calories so you can grow, and be healthy!
If 118-120 is the weight that your body went to when you were not considering dieting or counting cals then that may be the weight your body is content at. I forgot the name but there is a perfect weight for every individual, whether they like that weight or not. I would advise to stop counting cals and just learn to make healthy choices and just eat when you are hungry otherwise you risk hurting your metabolism and putting your body into a bad situation.
your at a healthy weight, plus soon that weight will go to all the right places ;)
I have struggled with loosing and gaining weight for a long time and the one thing that I have learned over the last 6 years of doing this is that not eating enough calories will do more harm as far as weight gain goes, than not eating that many. When you deprive yourself of calories, your body goes into starvation mode and everything you eat will turn into fat and your body will store it, making it very difficult to loose it. I recommend talking with you doctor and finding out what would be the best calorie intake for you and sticking with it. Make sure you eat all your calories.
Instead of worrying about a weight in pounds a healthier measurement to look at is Body Fat %. Women should be no less than 16% and no more than 30%.
Do you have a scale at home that calculates body fat? If not, I know how to do it the old fashioned Navy way. I can tell you how and send you link for the chart. It isn't the most accurate method, but it will give you an idea.
Finding your BMI is also good, but I don't like it as much as it doesn't take lean body mass vs. fat into account.
I was a similar weight as you are and only an inch taller in High School. I did a lot of weight training in my teen years so had a lot of muscle weight. My body fat was .2%. This means I was severely underweight.
It does more than turn to fat when your body is in starvation mode. It cannibalises your muscle tissue.
do you really think you will be able to notice 5 lbs? cause ive lost 4 pounds and i cant tell. haha. maybe you should focus more on eating healthy (and enough) and staying fit. once you grow into your body, if you still want to lose those 5 pounds, then go for it
