Anyone read The Story of Edgar Sawtelle?

Has anyone read The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski?  It's been on the New York Times Bestseller list & featured in Oprah's Book Club, so I was looking forward to reading a great book, but it's left me totally confused.  What the heck is this book about & what is it's purpose?!  The book is so damn boring, rambles on & on with no character development and has no apparent plot whatsoever!  How in the world did it get on the New York Times Bestsellar list???  I flipped to the end hoping it would tie up some loose ends & all I find is that the main character is killed off & the story literally goes up in flames.

Can someone please tell the point of this story?!

eek i havent read it but you might want to put **spoiler** in the subject line!

*whoops*...sorry, I didn't think there would be a reason to put a warning label on this subject line.  Anyway, I ended up going on amazon.com & there are quite a lot of discussions about the book, so it cleared up my confusion on the book.

It's a modern retelling of Hamlet. Because of that there are some jumpy character introductions, especially later in the book, to fill the roles in the original story. While not one of my favorite books, I thought it was an interesting way to make the story modern. And since I love animals, I was especially drawn to the chapters that are narrated by the family dog, which I thought was a unique perspective. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but maybe you'll like the movie version that is currently in the works.

ah, thanks for clearing that up.  I didn't know it was supposed to be a modern retelling of Hamlet...it just didn't do anything for me & then the storyline jumped from place to place, so I didn't stick with it.  I know other people have really enjoyed it though.

yep, "spoiler" in the subject line would have been nice since I am only halfway through the book and now know how it ends.  thanks a lot.
