Anyone not seeing Presidential signs in their town?

Quote  |  Reply

I live in a small southern town and I have not seen one Presidential sign anywhere. I drove over to my mom's house this past weekend ,in another county, and I saw not one on the way to her house. Now I know people are voting here because I have seen them at the polling place. But why the absence of signs? On top of that I have seen no bumper stickers on cars either. Am I the only one seeing this? And I wonder why people are not showing their support as they have in other years?

I'll be honest: in small town Indiana where people refuse to go to the Meijers up the street because its "dark" in there, I am unsure what my neighbors would do to a sign.  Luckily, it seems the McCain/Palin signs are far and few between too.

I mentioned this on another thread. Im north of Dallas and have seen McCain signs but not Obama.  Last year our street had Kerry signs.  No signs this year.

this election is a bit more controversial.  a lot of people don't want to reveal their position and get into an uncomfortable argument

Eugene, Oregon. Theres an Obama bumper sticker on about one out of every three cars. I saw one McCain car sticker two weeks ago...its literally the only one Ive ever seen. Not exaggerating.

Also see a lot of Obama signs when I walk past the U of Oregon dorms. Students put them up in their windows. Never seen a student window with McCain anything. I assume that if someone had a McCain sign, other students would constantly be dropping by to ask them why they liked his policies.

I live in KS (helloooo can we say RED?) and I've still seen very few McCain signs.  My family lives in MO (swing state) and still I don't see many signs either.

It's strange.  For an election that seems so important, and one where more people are paying attention than ever, it's almost like people are afraid to put signs up because other people seem so angry.  If i was an Obama supporter, I'd be afraid of some idiot neighbor thinking I'm supporting terrorists.  And if I was a McCain supporter, I'd be afraid of my idiot neighbor thinking that I'm some radical Christian nutjob who can't think for myself.

Therefore, I chose not to do a sign this year, since the public reaction on both sides seems so very volatile.

EDIT:  Just read huggitbear's post above.  That is a nicer, shorter version of what I was trying to get at as well.

i thought campaigns used to give signs away for free to any supporter who wanted one. this year, the campaigns (at least obama's) is selling signs for $3. that's a high enough barrier of entry for most to avoid getting one so, in part, i attribute the light signage this time around to that.

The Obama camp gave me a free sign.

Then it disappeared.

Then it showed back up.

Then it disappeared again.

I blame aliens, moonshine, and Ross Perot

I think they only give signs away in swing states. I'm from illinois and i had to pay $8.00 for my sign--be happy yours was only $3. Illinois has a crazy amount of signs up. I don't think I've ever seen so many. People have both McCain and Obama signs in their yards because families are torn. I can't go 4-5 houses without seeing a sign. I live in a very republican district in Illinois and I'm happy to see more obama signs.

In my mom's neighborhood when I was home, I only saw two houses with signs for the presidential election (there were a few more for Congressional races). They were both McCain signs and on opposing corners from each other. Even when driving around I only saw maybe a total of 10 signs in other neighborhoods.

I live in Pittsburgh, not a small town, I realize.  However I work in the same building where the McCain/Palin campaign is headquarted for the city.  ALL DAY LONG people are in and out of the building picking up signs.  They are also picking up tickets to rallys that are going on in the area.  So while you may not see any bumper stickers or signs, people are still supporing thier canidate.

I would agree with the other people saying that this election is more controversial than others have been, so people don't want to say who they are voting for.

I see them all over the place here in Maryland which seems funny because there's absolutely no doubt that Obama will win here.  Across the street I've got one neighbor with a McCain sign and another with an Obama sign.  I will never have a political sign on my property regardless of how much I like some candidtate.  I think they're ugly and look forward to when they're removed.  I guess if one of my kids were to run for office I might change my mind, but other than that, I just don't like them.
