Is it as horrifying as I've heard?

A friend of mine went through the whole film with a bunch of my other girlfriends and I the other night, and with every scene she went through in detail, I realized I wasn't going to be able to sleep that night. And that's from just hearing about it.

But maybe that's just me. If you're interested in something similar to the film, there is a book called House of Leaves that works off a similar concept and is damn entertaining.

Stupid ending.

Was ok scary. I jumped only once and I'm a scaredy cat.

It wasn't really all that scary.. more creepy than scary.. especially since they filmed it as if it were a documentary so you felt like it was something that had really happened, then you start thinking about "if it happened to them.. it could happen to... " which is where the creepy part comes in.  It certainly wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen & it trumps Blair Witch Project hands-down in my book.  I don't think I'd pay to go see it in the theater again but I don't regret paying to see it in the theater one time.  I might watch it on DVD again, though.

And I agree - the ending was stupid.  Kind of ruined it for me.

There's 3 endings I guess.  I am really scared of paranormal stuff and didn't sleep for a few days just because I saw the commercials. I probably should not watch it but I downloaded it and my friend wants me to watch it with her. It's one of those things I really really do not want to see but it is so tempting.

Me too Schnood, so I read the entire story on wiki first, took away most of the scariness that I was afraid of. I found the footsteps to be the creepiest.

yep, don't like the foot steps thing either. I'm not watching it.

I guess knowing they spent $11,000 making the movie, you can kind of figure out how it's been put together... felt like watching a youtube vid.

i saw it.  i saw a copy at home.  ssshhhh......a freind of a freind of a freind from work's bootleg.

picture it:  husband away, stormy night, i'm alone; lights are out.  and I'm watching that movie.

i had my sheets up to my face for most of the movie; i could hear my heart pounding and i slept with the lights on.

with that said...wait until the video comes out because I suspect that type of movie is best watched OUT of the theater and in the comfort of your scary home.

I agree with vanessa, it wasn't really scary in the theater at all, except for the last 5 minutes. Sure, there were "creepy" and "weird" things, but I actually found most of the movie pretty boring, and I think they could've cut out a lot of stuff and done the whole movie in about 30 minutes. And I'm usually the biggest baby when it comes to horror movies or scary stuff.

I also watched a copy at home *ahem*, with my SO and one of my girlfriends.  While I jumped a few times, and was a bit creeped out, I've been able to sleep soundly every night since.  If I think about it too much, it's a bit creepy (especially as I walk downstairs into the dark living room every morning), but it's not like other horror movies I've seen that have freaked me out for days (also, walking into a dark room creeps me out under normal circumstances.)

Maybe if I had seen it in a theater, or with only one other person (or my college roommate, who was as big of a baby as I am when it comes to scary movies!), or even worse, by myself, I would have been afraid for days, but...

I think the thing that made it not work for me was being able to make fun of the boyfriend from the movie because, seriously?  He kind of deserved that.  :/  If I had seen it in the theater, I wouldn't have done that (because I hate talking during a movie), and maybe would have been more creeped out?

I'd watch it outside of the theater. Not nessesarily because of the movie itself, but the people who are going to see it. When me and my boyfriend went a week ago, the audience was pretty much full, and anytime something remotely wierd happened, half the audience went crazy. Kinda killed the 'scary' factor... that and I had a kid sitting next to me that kept telling his friend what was going to happen...

It's a pretty freaky movie, but I think alot of people are going in with the mindset that they are going to be scared, and therefore are scared. IMHO, it's not as scary as people are saying...

I've seen paranormal activity but I have not seen a movie called Paranormal Activity.  It wasn't really scary but it did creep me out.

I've seen it and no its not as scary as people say.. I mean.. its made to look like its a true story.. because the couple gets a cam. to document the activity thats going on in their house, at night when they are asleep.. IF its TRUE then yes is creepy and weird as hell, but IT its UNTRUE its just a regular creepy movie.. if that makes sense...anyways, i must admit that it did have me sleeping with my lights on for a few nights.

I'm a huge fan of horror movies and it scared me in a great way.  To me the suspense was so great that I told my husband I didn't know how much more I could take.  It didn't make me afraid of the dark or anything like that, though.

The only movie that scared me into sleeping with the lights on was The Exorcist uncut version where she spider walks down the steps.  *shudder*  That one still creeps me out.

I saw it in the theater and it was very atmospheric and creepy. For me, I was creeped out by the sense of vulnerability---most things happened while they were asleep and therefore rendered somewhat helpless.

Yeah, when you hear someone describe the movie to you, you're like, "Uh, that's it, really?" But when you see it, it's totally different. Because it's a "mock"umentary, everything seems real.

When I was watching the second half in theaters, well... Let's just say I've never actually screamed in a movie theater until then. :)

When my boyfriend and I got home at like 1, we were so paranoid and jumpy at every little noise the house made. I screamed and almost ended up crying after my phone vibrated on the table from a text.

I liked it, but was really disappointed in the "scariness factor" based on the reviews I had heard of how terrifying it was. I did not jump or scream once! I'll admit, it was creepy, the whole idea of what was happening in the film, so I'd still recommend seeing it, especially in the theater. It was fun hearing the other people around me jumping and screaming. It turned out that I had already seen all the scary parts in the previews. Maybe that is why it didn't really get to me. I still had a good time, though.

I liked it

Not really that scary. Not sure where the hype came from.

I wouldn't watch the preview before going to it.  It pretty much shows everything that is going to happen.  I personally thought Blair Witch was scarier.  I couldn't sleep for a week after seeing that one.  I took my 14 year old daughter to see Paranormal Activity and we were both disappointed.  We liked it, but we just weren't as scared as we thought we would be. I rented Blair Witch for her to watch and after I started thinking about it, I decided not to let her watch it until she is older.  She isn't very happy with me about that.  But I don't want her sleeping in my bed for the next month! Smile

You can catch the other ending to Paranormal Activity on youtube, but I think the one they used is better.
