Does anyone shave.....

Quote  |  Reply

their arms? I overheard a woman say she did. I have never heard anyone before that. Just wondering if that is a common thing or not or maybe in certain areas of the world. I never have shaved mine but have been continplating it since I heard that woman mention it.

My cousin often said shse wanted to because she had dark hair on her arms.  I basically sat her down and told her that no one noticed such things on her.  I certainly didn't.

I think it's a bad idea though.  It's just like when we were kids...we couldn't wait to shave our legs...now we wonder what the hell we were thinking.  It's a huge hassle!!!  The hair on your arms will grow in thinker and more coarse.

I do, it isn't a hassle at all...takes about 5 seconds each arm...I have (had) very thick and dark hair...very self conscious about it...and people DID notice...and it, like leg hair, does not grow back thicker and corser...stubble always seems corser but if it grew out, it would be the same...

I've considered it just because I hate body hair. My arm hair is pretty mild compared to most people but it just annoys me. However, the stubble concerns me... haha

I never thought of that. I don't have that much hair on my arms, and what's there is pretty light.

It is a myth that shaving causes the hair to grow in thicker and more coarse, no matter the location shaved. The number of hair follicles are set. The type of hair those follicles grow is set. What actually happens is that when you shave, all of your hair is now growing back at the same time at the same rate, instead of some shedding and growing at different intervals. This makes it feel thicker.

I have heard of a few men and women who shave their arms. I once got asked if I did. It was kind of funny. I was asked because a guy on my crew noticed how smooth my arms were. I just told him I had practically no body hair at all, and that the hair I did have was very fine, soft and blonde so it didn't show up much. That caused some very interested looks and raised eye-brows. I just laughed at them.

I wouldn't recommend shaving your arms. Think about how often you have to shave your legs and what they feel like if you let them go too long and then picture your arms with stubble.

I have extra fine hair blonde hair on my arms but a lot of it.....like peach fuzz. I have never really liked it. When I get goose bumps all the hair sticks up and I feel like it is noticable to others but maybe that is just in my mind. My husband definitely notices it and laughs when I get goose bumps. It never has crossed my mind though to shave it.

Thanks for the responses. I am weighing out the negatives vs. the positives. I just needed to hear others experiences and/or knowledge.

I have once. My sister told me ALL girls shave their legs and arms. I was like 9. My hair did not grow back thicker however. Ya gotta love Big Sisters. LOL

I'm not worried about it coming back coarser and thicker... I know that's a myth. I'm worried about having leg-esque stubbly arms. haha

My mother cuts her's with scissors.  My aunt shaves hers.  Both have black curly hair.

My mothers arms like all hair cuts don't always come out so good.

I have my dad's blonde and not very much on my arms

Yeah, I've been thinking about trying it, but this is my concern too haha

it literally takes 5 seconds an arm...why would there ever be stubble?

speaking of fem-scaping...how does one avoid ingrown hairs in the 'bikini area'?

I knew a girl who trimmed hers...she had darkish hair on her arms that to me just resembled peach fuzz but she said when it was grown out, it was very thick and noticable. I have never considered shaving mine because most people think I don't even have arm hair. I do, but it's so fine and blonde that it's hard to see.

I would go for trimming, rather than shaving them. The hair growing back in if you shaved would be all prickly.

Get a good razor used for that area only and change the blades frequently. Place the razor down with the blades up to dry between shaves. I find that a daily shave there keeps the ingrown hairs away. Even though I don't need to shave daily. It takes just a few seconds per shower.

So you just do it everyday?

I have black hair and light skin... so I occasionally run the razor over my arms if I want them to look nice for something. It does NOT change the thickness, colour or nature of your hair to remove it - that's just an old wive's tale.

I shave my arms. Along with letting my leg hairs go for a couple days (or weeks :-/) I do see a little of this stubble you guys are talking about after a few days, but it's really not that bad, and it really does only take seconds to shave in the shower.  If you have arm hair that you feel self conscious about (i have thick dark arm hair that grows in fine, but it's really long for some reason and I hate it), it's really no hassle at all to shave it.  It does feel strange the first couple days, and surprisingly a little colder! But I finally don't worry about my arm hair now that i shave it..it's one less thing to feel self conscious about.

i have naired mine in the past but there is really no point to it so obviously that didn't last

I shave mine sometimes with a hair trimmer. I don't have that dark hair, but I'm really pale so it shows more, but the main reason I do it is because the hairs are too long...and like Ali I just don't like body hair either lol.

ps moonikins, the hair doesn't all start growing at the same time, if you don't shave for awhile you'll notice some hairs stay stubble length while others grow long (I can see this on my arm right now for example). Hair doesn't 'know' to start growing when it's cut, if it's not in the growing phase, it won't grow. If it is in the growing phase, it will grow until it's reached the set length again. Someone asked about this before and I read up on it. People probably think the hair is coarser because it grows in blunt.

I have shaved my arms for as long as I have been shaving my legs.  I'm like you Petitechick...I have a lot of very fine, light, fluffy hair on my arms and I just always thought it looked stupid.

It does take almost no time to shave arms, it's really easy, and at least for me I only have to do it once or twice a week.  When the stubble comes back, it is not prickly at all.  It's just as soft and fluffy as it always was.

It's just a personal preference.  Some people don't mind having hair on their arms...but if you don't like it, it would not be weird to shave.
