Anyone smaller have a tough time losing weight?

Quote  |  Reply
Is there anyone out there like me who has more trouble losing a couple pounds than a heavier person?? I eat really healthy and work out everyday and like nothing is coming off! I dont get it? I understand the whole thing about how much water ur body retains and stuff but i dont think thats it. Does anyone else have this problem?

what is your weight and height?  How many calories are you eating?  have you thought about switching your calories up or switching up your workout?
The smaller you are the slower the weight loss happens. I am looking to lose 20 pounds and its coming off VERY slowly but it is coming off! I work out about 5-6 days a week and eat my recommended calories. So, I hear you but I'll tell you are getting healthier if you are working out and eating well and that is what should matter the most, weight loss will just be icing on the cake. Good luck to you :)

I am 5'5 and about 115, i eat about 1,000 calories a day maybe a lil over that. Now i know my weight sounds small but all i want to do is lose more on my lower body and cant seem to do it. Any suggestions?
I'm having the exact same problem. I'm about 108, and my goal is 105, and yet those stubborn pounds refuse to come off. I work out on average 4 times a week, and I've been watching what I'm eating like a hawk... it'll happen, eventually, but I think I need to pump up my workups and stick to salads and soups. Portion control for me is hell... as well as the ever present sweet tooth.

We can do it though. :)
try getting up to at least 1200 cals a day, you would be surprised what eating enough calories will do for you.  Try to eat 1200 one day and 1400 the next day...do that for a while, it will kick your metabolism into gear.  Try switching up your exercise routine.

Thanks for the info slappy!  destinyyrox, yea we have the same problem! I hate it, its just hell trying to lose anything. Aww ur lucky ur 108! Thats what i want! How tall are u??
Haha, reallllly short. 5'1. At one time I was 100 lbs (a year ago), but uhhh, the metabolism must have slowed down and I failed to care about nutrition. I guess now I have to pay for my slacking off. Still working on that six pack, lol!

I posted the same thing almost this morning I am 5' 6" and 148-150 and have been dieting for almost 6 weeks and have lost zilch.  It was suggested that I up my calories which I have to admitt freaks me out becasue to be honest I have always eaten healthy very little junk and no soda ever.  So I hear your pain.  Maybe Mother Nature thinks that 148 is perfect for my body and my television/Movie/Magazine Southern California attitude is wrong?  Could it be possible that that the media image I am trying so hard to duplicate is misleading me?
wow- ok I didnt see you only ate 1,000 calories and I wouldn't have recommended what I did if I had noticed. Listen to slappy and focus on eating ATLEAST 1200 calories a day. Nourish that body of yours, its the only one you've got.
If you are 5'5" and 115, your BMI is underweight.  You don't need to lose.  Try eating more and sensible exercise to tone and strengthen your body.
edit: post removed by united.

sorry if i mis-understood.
bebe, I totally feel your pain. I am 5'4 and about 112, and I am having a ridiculously tough time losing my last 4 lbs. I think you need to up your calories, though, especially if you are working out a lot (I eat about 1500/day).
texasgal11--I understand..I'm 5'7" and used to be 150...and I thought
that was just my weight.  I ate whatever I wanted, exercised, and
just didn't gain or lose anything.  And I didn't look fat, I just
felt fat.  But then I started watching my cal consumption ( I went
from 2000 to 1300) and the weight came off...and I also started
running.  And now I'm 10 pds lighter.  It took forever
though, about 4 months (!!) but it  can happen and it will happen
to you just keep up what you're doing!
I've posted a lot of really great information and useful tips in this thread:

K nobody worry! Im eating enough, i dont need to eat 2,000 calories a day to be healthy. Also with it being summer and so hot i dont eat as much.  And also my weight is anywhere from 115 to about 119. This is the only site where it tells me im underweight. My doctor doesnt seem to have a problem with my weight. I wasnt asking for tips on how to lose weight, i was seeing if somebody had the same problems as me.  Just because i weigh 115 doesnt mean im perfectly fine with my body.  Oh and i repeat!!! I AM NOT HURTING MY SELF! Just because of my weight and height does not mean im hurting myself! Sorry but i kinda take it offensively that some of you think im hurting myself.
Maybe it is because you stated that you eat around 1000 calories per day.

American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that calorie levels never drop below 1200 calories per day for women or 1500 calories per day for men. Even these calorie levels are considered by most fitness, nutritional and exercise professionals to be quite low. It is possible that your body will go into starvation mode, which is very dangerous, you might potentially gain weight, besides doing serious damage to your body, such as permanent kidney disease.

Your body needs at least 1200 calories per day to survive:

-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)

Thanks, but omg my body isnt gonna go into starvation mode! I eat when my body is hungry and thats it.
Well unless a doctor has spoken to you and allowed you to eat 1,000 calories a day you are hurting yourself. You have trained your body/mind to consume under 1200 calories. I feel like I am beating a dead horse but here ya go :

Starvation Mode:
There is a common misperception that to lose weight, the lower the calories, the better. Ironically, eating more calories may be key. You can actually hurt your body?s ability to lose weight by going too low. Here?s why. The body has a protective mechanism. When calories drop too low (we recommend a minimum of 1,200 per day) the body reacts as if it is starving and tries to conserve energy. It will lower your metabolism, conserve calories and fat, and you will not burn calories as quickly. This results in a slower weight loss or even no weight loss. This is what?s know as the ?Starvation Mode?.

I hope you dont feel like we are attacking you but 1,000 calories just isn't healthy (unless under a doctors care but I would be surprised). This isn't meant to call you out this is out of concern.

Thanks for the info. God i wish i could prove to u people that im fine, since i cant im just going to keep telling u guys.
Bebe, ok lets start a new here. I apologize for shoving information down your throat but can I just ask a few questions because maybe this is all a misunderstanding and we might clear confusion up?

How much do you eat (calories) during a day?

How much do you exercise per day?

What is your current weight and height?
