First of all let me say, I am a pear shape. My problem areas have always been between my navel and mid thigh(belly, hips, & thighs). I am 30 years old, 5'3, 135 pounds(working on losing the weight I gained over winter) and I have had seven children. Now I have what I call a "spare tire" or "flotation device". Ever since I had my first child, I have a ring fat(? )and/or skin(?) that circles my abdomen and sits across the tail bone and I can't get rid of it no matter what I do or how much weight I lose. It gets smaller but never goes away. I have been doing( for about 2 months) 100-150 crunches a day in addition to other Calisthenics and activities every day but it's still there, just smaller. It depresses me and makes me always feel miserable with the way my body looks. It also makes clothing fit me funny and it makes my butt look flat when in actuality, my butt is not too bad...just needs a little exercise, which leads me to ask, what exercises can I do to lift those muscles as well because it seems nothing I am doing is working on that area? I have a feeling that losing the spare tire would help with the way my butt looks...lol. Anybody have this problem and/or knows what to do about it? Keep in mind, there are no gyms withing 30 miles of where I live, and I have seven children, so it would have to be something I can do at home!!
Wow 7 kids - you are a saint!!! That seems like a workout in it's own. I was intrigued by your post so I did some surfing and found this and thought it would be helpful. http://www.befitmom.com/abdominal_recondition ing.html
I am interested in what others have to say as well. I am embarrassed to say I only have one child and she is 6 now. I have lost and gained weight since she has been born and no matter what I do I have never gotten rid of my "tire"
Thank you! I will definitely check it out.
Don't be embarrassed. I gained 60 pounds with my first and it took me 6 years to figure out how to lose it. I didn't even try until I thought I was done having kids but then I ended up having 2 more. After my sixth child, I gained a little back, then lost it again. Gained only 5 pounds during my seventh pregnancy but gained 15 after I had her. I am in the process of losing that again but this time, I want the the weight and the spare tire completely gone because I am done having kids!!!
Im 30 and the same height as you .. just after my 2nd child i was about your weight and my belly was terrible it used to flop all over the place. Since then i've got into much better shape and a few months ago i was sitting at about 105lb's and the belly flab was no-where to be seen.
I've gained alittle and now im at 120lbs and although i hardly look fat it's ALL sitting on my belly and the flab is creeping back.
don't give up belly flab is the last to go, (i bet like me belly fat is really all you have left to lose) lose wieght and the flab will undoubtedly improve ... it's subborn so you have to be tough with it, do exercise improve your core strength (side planks, superman's, planks), buy yourself some cheap dumbells' do swats, deadlifts etc there are tons of exercises you can do at home.
Get rid of the fat thats sitting on your belly and the tire will dissappear.
The website Walnuthill gave me explains a lot. I have been going about this the wrong way for Post Partum. I guess I should have researched more about post partum instead of following a general exercise plan. As far as weight loss, I don't want to ever go below 120 pounds. Even at 120, my face and upper body gets so thin I look sick and I do not want that at all. To me, weight is just a number that I don't really care about...what I care about is my measurements and how I look.

I like how you think. I have been working out harder than ever and I am loving just transforming my body. The added benefit is to see the scale to go down, but the big picture is how healthy I am.
My "sparetire" seems to disappear if I do Pilates! I like "the Board" which is done by resting your weight on your elbows and toes so your body forms a board or plank. Hold for as long as you can and then take a break. Do a few sets a day and in a few weeks you should see a difference.
