Anyone starting NROLFW in January?

Quote  |  Reply

I've heard a lot about the book New Rules of Lifting for Women (NROLFW) and I'm starting the routine January 5th 2009. Apparently I'm the last to start the program so I'm looking for a buddy that wants to start the program with me.

Here is a liittle of my background info: I'm about 5 foot 6, 148-150 lbs. My oal weight is about 140/145. I've lost the weight before with just calorie deficits, and lots of cardio, but I want to try something new which is why I'm starting weight lifting. I'm not trying to become a body builder or anything but I would like to decrease my body fat, shrink my waist a bit, and maybe actually look like I use my gym membership.

If you want to know more feel free to PM me, thank you.

There is a NROLFW group somewhere in the fitness forum.  I just started in about a month ago, but because of all the stuff going on this month I'm only about 2-3 weeks into it.  So far I really enjoy it (mostly because it leaves me sore for 1-2 days afterwards!).

I'm a member of the group but did not get much feedback there so I'm still looking for a buddy, thank you though.

Come on anyone?

I'm thinking about it.  I'm a little nervous that it may not be for complete beginners though.   I won't get to start my gym membership until the 2nd week in Jan, so I'll add you to my buddies and keep you posted if I start.

I started it twice, but have been side-tracked and didn't keep it up.  The New Rules for men is really not designed for complete beginners, but the New Rules for women is.  It takes into account women who've never lifted a dumbell or barbell in their lives.

Keep me posted thmheh

Sharz I like the NROLFW too it breaks everything down for thos of us who have just been cardio folks and never got into weight lifting at all (like me)

My Christmas gift to myself was the paperback version of this book I'll be starting to read it today and tomorrow and once school starts back up in mid January will be hitting the weight room hard

My book is on the way via snail mail but as soon as it comes I will be starting the program.

will you guys follow the diet plan as well?

No diet plan for me.  My schedule does not allow for that kind of food prep time.  I will aim for the recommended macro nutrient ratios, and I will certainly have the protein shake after workout.  But otherwise, no.

I had the same hesitation when I began the program at the end of the summer. I've found it to be pretty newbie friendly. I do have the luxury of being able to ask for help with new routines at my gym. Also, there are several posts in the forums and in the NROLFW group that show video of different lifts. While I have had my struggles this winter, those have been my own and if anything, working with this program has kept me from staying away from the gym for too long.

Good luck with whatever you choose, and happy new year!

I will do the recommendation of %ages of fat protien and carbs but the recipes and stuff in the book sound gross!!!  For one thing I absolutely can not stand yogurt and it seems every diet plan in the world uses yogurt   UGH!!!

I do use protein shakes now on occassions need to go get some whey protein instead though- I do have some soy protein powder and I also like the EAS chocolate protein shakes mixed with a banana -- 42 grams of protein in 300 cal drink.

but yogurt has live bacteria that balance the bad bacteria in your digestive system. Have you tried Greek Yogurt? anyway, I will not follow the diet plan because simply I need to cut out sugar and fruit for a period of time due to a medical condition.

so when will everybody start the program? I don't have the book yet. would you like to set up a start date?

Hi everyone!!

Well, this post is a few weeks old but wanted to share that I have started the NROLFW and have completed three workouts since Wednesday...And I LOVE it!! I am going to supplement it with my running, but I really enjoy it and have felt the burn since the first day, such a great feeling!!

I am not doing the meal plan because I am vegetarian, but I have been making sure I am increasing my protein intake, especially after the workouts.

I bought the book at my grocery store last week and have been reading it.  I did my first workout today.  I didn't think that it would be that challenging as I am fairly strong and have used weights in the past.  I followed the book's recommendation and I have to say, I'm whooped!  The step-ups and prone jack knife are killers.  I'm not so hot at doing push-ups, either.  I'm looking forward to getting stronger.

I am working out at home with free weights, bar bell and bench.  I have a swiss ball and an elastic resistance band for rows.  I can see that I am going to need more weights.  I'm going to try to stick to the meal plan as well as I can.  I already use whey powder in my morning kefir shake, which will be my after workout shake as well as breakfast.

Hey if you want join the NROLFW group, this thread is dead.
