Anyone getting Strange messages in your inbox here on CC

 

I got this in my mailbox at CC today....What's the deal?

Here is a little bit of the message.. It was from a girl and it gets all "heavy"

-I don't swing that way if you know what I mean lol.. how do I report this?

My name is fuoma i saw your profile today at(caloriecount.about.com) and i love it also became intrested in you,i will also like to know you more,and i want you to send an email to my email address so i can give you my picture for you to know whom i am.

I'd just say "no thanks" and leave it at that. It's not explicit or vulgar, I wouldn't take it as cause for alarm. If she persists in emailing you and you don't what to talk to her, there's an option to block a user you can click on.

If it were me I might respond and ask what specifically caught their interest, but I wouldn't necessarily give them an email. Communicating on Calorie Count is good enough.

Just to reiterate what's been said - Please copy and paste the messages, including the user name, in a PM and send it to any of the moderators.  Spamming PMs are not permitted but the administration can't do anything if you don't report it.

you must understand for some people on here english is not their first language and so it can be difficult to understand the nuances in language. so maybe she does not mean what you think she means!

uh, i don't know, i was just trying to help by giving you a different point of view. for many people who do not have english as a first language, love and like are synonymous. so maybe she just wanted a friend.

DO NOT reply to her.  This is spam.  The reason she wants you to send a reply to her email on a regular .com site is because then they outsource your email address to thousands of spammers, and then you end up getting upwards of 50 emails a day from people all over the world.

I learned the hard way by accidentally replying to someone to tell them they reached the wrong person.  My inbox was inundated with spam mail within 2 days. 

Basically, if you are receiving an email from an individual and cannot verify their domain, or a legititmate website (many have a "contact us" section) where you can identify the person as being associated with that website, it is SPAM.
