Anyone suffering like I am?

Quote  |  Reply

I live in California. And this year it has been bad for allergies. I have a lot runny nose, stuffy nose and sneezing.  I've also gotten sick more often with a cold, and I think this in part to the allergies.  I take Claritin when I needed but it puts me to sleep so does Alegra or any other nose spray. I just bought an air purifier called wein personal purifier.  I think its working. Anyone else having problems? How do you cope?

This year is really a bad one for allergies... that is why I'm up at 4 am... allergies woke me up again... been up and sneezing since 2 am.

And my air purifier died on me and we can't afford to replace it. When it was working it helped but mine was a room air purifier and I'm a little sceptical about the one you mentioned (and I'm not sure if you aren't just posting to advertise it (would have been less skeptical if you hadn't added a link)).

the one I mentioned its meant for airplanes or confined areas. It won't work while your sleeping because it has to be hanging on your neck. I posted a link because the name is not familiar. I have a Neoair Enviro Air Purifier in my room. I don't how much it has helped me, sometimes I think it made my allergies worse with the air that keeps blowing.

Hi Despond,

This was my introduction to the group I think it may help you. I have also done a 75 Mile bike ride along with my Marathon. I'm down almost 25 lbs since April 1 Good Luck!

Hi I'm a allergy sufferer like the rest of you trying to lose weight also like the rest of you. Funny how that works out huh? I'm about 50lbs over weight but have lost 8lbs in the last 4 weeks since coming back to CC. A combonation of calorie control and exercise does wonders, IF you stick to it! As for the allergies I've had them since I was three. Thats the first year my parents noticed. I used to get pretty bad, eyes swell shut, nose bleeds from rubbing, itchy throat and the felling of ants crawling under the skin of my face----your usual fun time as a kid. Then steroids came along and antiinflametories(?) and it helped alot. Much better than the honey of the local flowers grown in the area I grew up. (No kidding they used to tell you to eat that to help your allergies!) I took the steroid shots and aristicort and God knows what else starting in August thru October every year for about 30-35 years. After I got older and started to worry about what this stuff was doing to my body I started on the allergy (immunotherapy) shots! It took about a year to feel the change and now after 5 years my symptoms are reduced by 80-90%. Much easier to deal with. I use a Neti-Pot during ragweed time and now I'm pretty much allergy medicine free. I have been thinking about quiting the shots but I want to make sure the change will have a lasting effect. I will not go back to putting all the steroids and crap in my body. These shots have been a God send because I love the out doors. I am a runner (at 50 lbs over-weight) and am trying to get back into form. I ran the Detroit Marathon in 2005 but training for 2006 I stepped off the edge of the paved path I was running on and tore the meniscus in my knee. Then came surgery and the 50Lbs. I'm determined to run  again. Maybe not the Marathon but at least 5Ks,10Ks or a 10 miler once in a while. Kids are out of the house so its a perfect time to start a program. Nice to be back. Time to go for a bike ride, SEE YA!

Thanks daddon! Great job on losing pounds. I am half way through my goal but it hasn't been easy. I have consistent on running a minimum of 1 hour 5 days a week. I think it is making a difference. I have some problems though. My right knee bugs me at times but more than this is a headache on my right side due to overstraining my neck. At least that's what I think and what the Dr. tells me. She told me not to do any exercise for a week and gave me anti inflammatory meds. I'm taking a pill a day (not two as told) but I did not stop running. Not after the gains I've made.

Thanks for sharing!

Hey Despond

Gotta great book on running for ya to try out . It's called Galloway's Book on Running. He's a former olympic runner with several American records and he's a little shall we say "older". He has great advice for runners (and plans) for people training for anything from a 5K to a Marathon. Gives great advice for someone who wants the accomplishment of running a Marathon without killing themselves. "Were all athletes in one form or another its just that some of us train more than others"

 Hang in there

Thanks daddon. I'll check it out at Amazon. Thanks for the support.
