Anyone survived a cheat day?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm just curious...for my birthday celebration today, I had three pieces of cake...I know that's sooooo bad lol but it's sooooo good. I haven't touched cake in months (which I am proud of) and have lost almost all the weight I wanted to. Everything else I'm eating today is pretty much what I would on a normal diet day the only difference being me not counting just for today. I know I'm not going over my calories as far as food but the cake thing (and 4 starbursts I ate) are a bit troublesome. Again, I haven't eaten like this in a long time so I'm hoping I won't gain significant weight after today. Has anyone else had a cheat day and still been able to at least maintain their progress and can one day make a huge difference???

Oh, and I also should mention that I also excercise and plan to today since it is my cheat day.

oh girl i had a horrible cheat day yesterday! i mean c'mon.. it was easter! i couldn't help myself...

Anyone survived a cheat day?

isn't the more appropriate question: Anyone died from a cheat day?

come on.  it's only food.

I meant as far as their weight loss pattern goes...didn't mean to come off that way.

lol!  I'd watch out for the 4 starbursts though.

i know how you feel for my last bday my mom got me a whole mini cake for me and i ate pretty much the whole thing in one sitting. I felt horrible and went for a nice long swim and still managed to not gain weight from it. if it really bothers you just go burn it off

usually when i have "cheat" days or indulge in something a little bit more then what i should i wait a couple days before i weigh myself again and by then im usually the same weight as before i over indulged. Sometimes i get a nice suprise and im less. I think binges are what will put your weight loss on hold.

P.S. in the couple days i dont weigh myself i eat very healthy and make sure to work out both days.

After a cheat weekend (Saturday and Sunday!) I'm up 4.5 pounds.  However, based on the amount of salty foods I ate, I'm sure the majority of it is water weight.  I'm back on track today, and wouldn't be surprised if I'm down 2 pounds tomorrow, especially since I'm really being hardcore about my water intake.

Don't freak if you're scale has gone up the next day.  Check it again in after of few days of being back on track and I'm sure you'll be fine.  The important thing is that you don't go under your calories any of the days to try and compensate.  Get your minimum calories each day, at least!

Like loudlflower said, just drink a ton of water. You won't gain anything unless it was POUND cake. Sorry...

You would have to eat an EXTRA 3500 calories to gain one pound...so i think you're okay.  You might be bloated from the carbs and sugar, but that's just water weight. Drink extra water, get in some working out, and you'll be fine.

I loved Easter!  Binging on Mom's homemade food, nothing better.  I think it's important on your cheat day to enjoy what you are eating and not constantly be thinking...oh m y goodness this is so bad this is so bad - the entire time.  3500 calories make up a pound.  I usually weight 2 or 3 pounds above my previous weight after a cheat day but I know that it's the additional food in my body and probably water retention and within 3 days I'm back to where I was.

Usually I feel horrible when I cheat... then I remember that it is ok to indulge sometimes and if I stop looking at it as cheating then I don't feel so bad about myself.  I went into Easter knowing that I'd eat a ton of chocolate, I allowed my self to indulge and now I'm right back on track.  Who cares if I gain .4 pounds at least I'm still counting and on the right path.  It's your Birthday, eat cake, eat as much cake as you want... and tomorrow get right back on track.  No regrets and a very happy birthday :)

Hello,

I just wanted to say that it is very strange for me how you can "cheat" on the food, seriously. When I decide to drop weight I looked at my eating habits, also I evaluate what foods give me what. My Mom was diagnosed with diabitis I do realize that it doesn't accur because of sugar consuption, but for some reason I become so afraid of it, so for the past 4 years I don't eat any sugar-I even do not try substitute it with something else like splenda or sweet and low. Right now I don't really understand people who claiming they can "die" for chocolate or donut :). I know they cannot. I guess I'm trying to say that first of all everybody needs some sort of reward, so if you almoust hit your weight goal and it was your b-day and it was easter, nothing wrong with having small treat for you, you cannot be forever on the diet, so time to time you will have a cake-especiallly if you can "die" for it. Everything is great, tomorrow new date, maybe it is time to scip toast in the morning or have coffe with a scim milk. Cheers.

I know for the fact if you'll sit on the couch all your life you will never drop an ounce...

life will go on.

no but really, enjoy yourself.

I ate half of a dark chocolate blackberry cheesecake on my birthday.  I didn't just survive; I thrived.  Yeah, it was around 4000 calories or so.  Yeah, I gained a pound.  Yeah, I lost it again a few days later.  No regrets.  Just happy, cheesecake covered birthday smiles.  (Oh, and happy birthday!)

nvm Cool

I didn't survive. I asploded. Frown

Wow - that sounds delicious - and totally worth it!  Now I'm drooling...

If you havent had a cheat day in ages then you really dont have to worry about it...sometimes you need to cheat a little to loose weight, plus you wont even gain half a pound...if your really worried do what I do Embarassed..if you know you're gonna have a cheat day in advance (BD, lunch with freinds etc) then eat signifantly less the day before and the day after and you've made it up during the cheat day...or just eat less than you usually do for the next day or 2...if you're really active then just burn it off in the next few days by being "extra" active. The important thing is that you dont have TOO many cheat days too often, I give myself one or two per month and allow myself to eat up to 3000 cals...but usually dont go over 2000...and if the calculations here are right, I need 1900 calories per day to maintain so 100, even 500 calories extra wont harm my diet plan, especially if I eat that much less the next day, or walk it off, or sometimes both! Tongue out

Just wanted to say thanks for all the input (and the birthday wishes) and also share that I knew going into yesterday that I would allow myself a treat, regardless of what it would do to me lol. But I just wanted to get an estimate on how much of a difference it would make...as for an update, I weighed myself yesterday and again today and I'm actually 1.5-2 pounds lighter today than I was yesterday. I know weight fluctuates daily and stuff like that so who knows? I've heard that increasing calories from fat sometimes helps you lose weight...I'm craving another piece Tongue out but I think I'll try and hold off at least for another day...snacking on a huge bowl of veggies in the meantime...
