Just asking...
I'm new to town, overworked, underpaid and looking for someone to keep me from sitting around on the couch watching the rain and getting fatter on my rare hours off of work. Winter's approaching and the scale is groaning its protest already ;)

Even virtual motivators are appreciated :)

Hi...i'm way down south in Longview, but my mother lives in Tacoma. Not a lot of time right now, getting ready to go run errands. I'll put you on my friends list, and yak at ya later, 'K?

carol

I'm up in Everett but all my friends live in Puyallup.  Anytime you want to send a message feel free.  I understand about the rain keeping you down.  I am so unmotivated right now too but I know I have to get back on the train.  I hope maybe we can keep each other motivated.  Hey instead of watching the rain why not do a quick work out instead :)
Hey, I am on the East side and it has been raining over here for days where I am at, I have been stuck inside eating and watching the scale go up and my pants getting tighter. Any workouts that I can do inside, along with living in a small house and other people live with me.
thanks all. I added you all as friends. Thinksky - you're on east side of Tacoma? That's where they just found what's left of my stolen car so I was just there. LOL

I would love someone to help keep me honest - or even an exercise partner, running, walking, whatever. I just had to wear my fat pants, that sucked almost as much as getting my car stolen.

That's just rotten about your car.  I am also in the East- Eastern Washington!  It is so good to hear from someone in the state that I had to answer you.  Sorry that we are a mountain range apart.  My daughter is in the Oly area and my sister in the Port Orchard area if that counts!  Its raining and ugly here, too.  Plus some dummies are yakking about snow already!  I go to the gym pool at least twice a week.  Stay well.  Sure good to hear that someone else lives in this state.

Thanks, Poet. The pool is a great idea! I think I may ask for a membership to my local Y for a birthday or xmas present (they are in the same week - lucky me, eh?). Swimming sounds splendid. I also see you walk the pool. Does that get your heart rate up? I wish pools were free. I feel like they were when I was a kid, but maybe that was just youthful ignorance. Ah, the good old days...
How do you guys like the Pacific Northwest?

That's one area of the country that I've never made it to, but would really like to see.
Hi punkybrew!  I'm not in Tacoma (altho my bestest friend is), but am semi-close in Portland....well, 3 hours, but not bad!  Feel free to IM if you wish!  Sending motivating vibes your way.  I know the rain can be a downer (I'm in the super tiny minority of people who actually feel BETTER in the rain), so hopefully you get some sun breaks soon!!!!

I'm also from Eastern WA...well, at least for now.

And btw, Chris, the northwest is FANTASTIC!  I know I'm biased, but still...the west side is rainy, but very green and pretty...the east side is a desert!  Best of both worlds, all in one state!  Plus we have the mighty Columbia river, which means tons of water activities, and fresh fish! (Salmon, steelhead, bass...)  And some of the best wine in the world is made in this area :).

You should definitely find time to make a trip up here, but make sure you visit BOTH sides of the Cascades.  Otherwise, you'll miss half the experience!

Hey, I live in Burien/White Center & I'm about 30 minutes from Tacoma without the traffic (lol) on a good day...
Traffic, Bootser, what traffic? ;) I stay off I5 as much as possible. Welcome to the Tacoma thread! There certainly are more people in WA (and Portland - hi Amy!) than I thought.

I don't know about you guys but we had an amazing day yesterday. I even got to exercise outside. Maybe it'll be a trend. Making up for those rainy summer days...

I am NOT looking forward to daylight savings time. But here we are, almost November. At least the worst of it will be over in two months and the days will start getting longer...

About me: I lost most my weight before the summer. I'm one of those who has been struggling with the last 10 lbs or so. I'm petite so 10 lbs really shows a lot a lot. I would like to lose more than that but I'm settling for those last 10 to my original goal #1 for now. My goal date is my 31st b-day (Dec 17th). Anyway, I got really really close before work started in June and now I'm creeping creeping back up (I work 80-hour weeks and often am up for 36-40 hours at a time so controlling my eating when I don't sleep gets really hard).

And chris - the PNW is awesome as far as I can tell, but I haven't been here all that long and I work a lot (see above paragraph). I have to say, it is georgous! I still sometimes feel like the mountians I'm seeing are fake ;)

I am in Washington...at least. Probably the furthest away but I haven't found anyone else here in Spokane. Brandy is the closest to me. we do however go to the Seattle area twice a month in the winter for football and at least once a month in the summer. I am from the central coast of California so I know all too well about the fog and rain. My husband would like to move to Seattle but i don't think I can handle the weather. At least over here I have 4 seasons, so I have time to adjust.

I have only been in the NW for 5 years but I wouldn't trade it for anywhere. I love the weather and the outdoors so its kind of like heaven, plus Spokane is cheap to live in. haha.

Where are you guys from originally?
I'm originally from michigan. Also lived in boston for a number of years. And connecticut as well. So I guess I'm an east-coaster transplant ;)
Well, if you really get technical, I'm originally from NY, about a 1/2 hour outside NYC.  But as I've been a Washington east sider for 23 of my 26 years, I consider myself from here.  As far as I'm concerned, I may as well have been born here since i don't remember living anywhere else!

I'm a native...born in Tacoma in 1948. I have lived in Oregon, California, Utah and Colorado. I live in Longview now....very near Portland...about 45 miles north. It's a bit warmer and drier here than Tacoma.

Sounds like you work medical, Punky? i don't know anyone else who works 80 hours a week! sheesh! and almost 31, eh....it was a long time ago i saw 31, LOL! I'll be 59 next month, and hope to be under 240 by then. weighed in at 246.4 today. Not bad considering just 14 months ago i weighed a whopping 308.8! ugh!

I love Spokane...hubby and i love to watch the snow fall from inside the skywalks downtown in the winter, and feeding the ducks and geese in the river at the park in the summer. Lovely, lovely town.

I'm originally from Texas & I have a travelers spirit so I'm not sure where I will move next!
Ah, caroljoy, I do work in the medical profession. Or, shall I say, the medical profession works me ;) Think Scrubs and you're on the right track...

Bootser - travelers spirit, eh? Is that why you are carrying a box in your photo? Me too. I blame it on the fact I'm a Saggitarius (apparently they are restless and like to travel) but it's just an excuse, I like to try out new places. :) I also have to admit, if I don't have a trip planned in the near-ish future I feel a little trapped. Any recent travels?
Sadly not trips planned in the near future. I'm working on my masters degree right now so I'm settle until June. Not sure what will happen after than. Um, what kind of job do you do in the medical profession? Work in a hopsital?

Bootser...i have that traveler's spirit, too...i call it the wanderlust. the price of gas is prohibitive, and as i am nearly 59 and have grandkids here now, i'm not likely to move too much any more, tho i would like to. i was born in Tacoma, in the old Tacoma General hospital, actually, and basically raised in the state of Washington...Yelm, Pasco, Tacoma, Olympia, Shelton, Tahuya, Ariel, Purdy, Wauna,...and Bonny Slope, Oregon, Portland, Oregon; near Keno, Oregon; near Yreka, California. My Dad was a hydroelectric power plant operator, and we moved to where the next good pay raise was to be found. Since adulthood i've lived in Spokane, WA; Salt Lake City, UT; Colorado Springs, CO; Oregon City, OR, Chula Vista, CA; San Diego, CA; National City, CA.

PunkyBrew, i thought so...St Joes? Tacoma G? Allenmore?(sp?) Nevermind if you don't want to say. I'm too nosey sometimes, i guess. Three generations of my family have been born at TG...me in 48, my niece in 67, and her twins in 87. Same OB delivered me and my niece...and he was over 50 when he delivered me. wow.
