Hey guys! WOW I haven't been on this site in a while...as just a quick message of encouragement...well, i did withdraw from school but on a medical leave. I'm getting treatment at a partial-day program and I think my depression medication has GREATLY helped w/ the bingeing. I threw away the scale and really LIKE what I see in the mirror. Anyways, the question is if anyone has taken Zoloft in the past? I've felt really funny---I upped the dose a/b a week ago and I know I've heard you should give it a while to work but I'm wondering if it's the meds making me feel like this. I've been sweating, not sleeping well, tired ALL the time (isn't it supposed to make you feel better!?!), and not in control of my emotions. Did anyone else experience this and it got better or no...OR did you have a medication that I should suggest to my doc? I feel like a blob-plus it's hard to follow a meal plan if I'm not that hungry but anxious b/c I feel like i'm putting onweight. Sorry this was so long! Let me know!
I encourage you to talk to the doc who prescibed this for you. I was on this in the past but with a combo of remeron and zoloft. For me at the time the combo balanced me out and helped me sleep. My best advice is to be honest so they can help you. Some meds take time to adjust and to see benefits. What program are you in?
Hi. May I ask what dose you are taking?? I have been on Zoloft for about 5 years. Most of that time I have been taking Wel-butrin also. For me, I started off on 50mg. It does take 6-8 weeks to build up enough of it in your system to evaluate the true effect it is has on you. I would suggest if you haven't done this, be patient, and if after 2 months you aren't feeling any better, you may need an adjustment or try a new med. The 50 mg I was on eventually stopped working so I increased to 100mg, which initially gave me terrible headaches for about a week. About 5 months later, i could not tell a difference in my depression or mood so I went back to 50 mg. Zoloft makes me have very vivid dreams, not always bad but they seem so real. I have also taken many other depression meds, some of which worked at first, and one that made me feel suicidal. I could share a lot with you about my experiences with anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds. I'm also a registered nurse so I know a little bit about this type of stuff. Ask me anything you would like to know and I will try to answer to the best of my ability. But I can tell you this, these meds effect everyone different, so what works for some may not work for all. Hope to hear back from you.
Sometimes what works for one person flat out doesn't work for someone else. For me, Zoloft was not a good fit and after three days I had to stop.
I will echo Asimpier's post--you need to talk with your doctor and tell HER what your side effects are so she and you can figure out if this is the right treatment for you.
I have been on Zoloft for over 3 years now and am just going up from 100 mg to 150mg. Everytime I increase my dose I also get those kind of side effects: trouble sleeping, tiredness (extreme), sweating, and I also get the extreme shakes. If you up the dose slowly it will pass, but it generally passes after taking the meds for a couple of months.
But as someone who suffers extreme anxiety and had a myriad of eating problems (disorders) for almost 10 years I can say that Zoloft saved my life, so don't give up on it. Talk to your doc if it still doesn't seem to be helping, because I had tried celexa and prozac before finding a med that worked for me.
hope that helps.
hey guys-thanks so much for all of your info. I talked to my doctor--she put me back down to 50 mg (I was on 100). Maybe it's just my imagination but I already feel a major difference overnight. So I guess I'llkeep trying 50--unfortunately that doesn't do that much for my depressive symptoms, while 100 mg seems too drastic. We're giving it anotehr month and then if Im not seeing a difference-she wants me to try...I believe it was Cymbalta? haha so if anyone knows about their experience with this that'd be great toO!
I take 150mg per day and do have very vivid dreams. Kind of like going to the movies after I go to bed! I really like it (zoloft, I mean). My only complaint is that sometimes I wish I felt a little anxiety about things... (which I know sounds weird). I am in grad school and sometimes I need to have more urgency with my work, but I feel like the Zoloft makes me have a mellow, happy-go-lucky attitude all the time and sometimes I need to be a little more urgent with getting on tasks. But overall I like it. It has kind of dampered my sex drive, though...
Amen girl to dampening your sex drive!!! Mine has went non-existant. I take Zoloft 50mg. I know this is a side effect of all anti-depressants, but Previously I took Prozac 20mg and, I know this is weird, but it sky-rocketed my sex drive. But after the sex, the depression came back. Wish there was something that helped everything. Has anyone ever had that same experience with prozac????
I DEF find that I am way less interested in boys...in fact pretty much everything in general! It's very frustrating b/c I just feel like instead of the depression go away, I'm just generally emotionless and don't feel like myself. urggggh--finding the right meds is so hard!I can see why so many people just stop taking them which is what I keep getting warned about..
I have heard that Wellbutrin is one of the best anti-depressants for the sex drive problem: supposedly it doesn't have the same sexual side-effects as prozac, zoloft and other SSRI's.
But for me being happy and anxiety-free is worth a lousy sex life. (Kinda sucks though haha).
i was put on PROZAC for anxiety and it made me SO TIRED. i would literally fight to stay awake during the day, and because of that, my grades suffered horribly.
i was on it for about 3 months. it was DEFINETLY not worth it.
i'm staying FAR away from perscription drugs, its just not worth it to me. way tooo many side effects, and to me, it kinda changes who you are.
but hey, thats my opinion ;)
I was put on Zoloft this time last year. It made me constantly hungry and gain weight like crazy. I stopped taking it. I couldn't do it anymore (it's no way to recover from an eating disorder). So yea... I hate that stuff. But of course every person is different. I was always hyper though. Had a lot of energy. I was a lot happier but the weight thing totally crashed everything. Made me angry. So yea, that's what it did to me. Made me eat, gain weight, and be happy. In the end it so wasn't worth it though.
I was on lexapro stopped taking it............made me have no feeling down below at all
was put on zoloft and webutrin and i dont know which one it is but Man
the feeling i got down below is wonderful...................much better than when iw as a young girl
sd1961, my experience is the opposite, I'm on lexapro low dose and have no problem with it. welburtin I couldn't do anything. I guess it depends on the person but they say Lexapro doesn't have sexual side effects.
For most people I know Zoloft is really great, and works wonders. But for some people not so much. For me, it was good for a few years, then it made my blood vessels start to leak. For the most part side effects are really mild, and it should make you feel icky. I'd talk to your doctor about it. :)
However I'm very sensitive to antidepressants. For example, welbutrin gave me a seizure. o_o so maby i'm not the best source of information XD
