i hate that!

there are people that i kno that say this to me all the time. they say im just big boned and that i will never be skinny likw(120-130) becoause of it. im 5'7 and 160 lbs.

according to this site i am a 'SMALL FRAME" since my fingers overlap, but still it is really discouraging hearing ppl that your are clse to tell u that ur fat and thats it cant do nothing bout it.

sure ive never admit that i am on a diet because im scared that if i say somethnig and dont lose any weight they will be convinced that i am big boned.. but now thats it im sick of that and im gonna lose 30 lbs by this summer!

prove them wrong!

Nope, I can't say that as often as I've heard the "it's in your genes..." conversation.  Yeah, it's in my jeans, in my socks, shoes, shirts...

You go on and lose those 30 pounds and show them!!!  BUT, better yet, lose them and enjoy being that much lighter, healthier, and whatever frame you truly are.  Smile

Good luck, this chickadee is rootin' for ya!!!

There have been a few times in my life I was told that I'd never be skinny...

First time was in 8th grade. I was on the swim team, and the coach told my mother and me that I'd 'always have a weight problem no matter how much I swam and exercised.'

Second time was just recently when I was talking to a girl at work about pregnancy. She started to say 'well, since you're big---... no offense, but you have a layer of fat so ...blahblahblah.'

I don't really give a damn what people think. I have a hard enough time having confidence in myself that I really try to filter out what other people say. I'll take the compliments, sure, but it's just not necessary for other people to point out your 'flaws.' (unless you ask for an opinion, of course)

People. Ugh.

Well, I'm large framed and when I was underweight I was told I shouldn't be skinny.  I have very big hips even if I'm skinny-mini.  So, I've heard, "you shouldn't be thin".   Which is frustrating like,"you'll never be thin".  Yell

My family doctor told that to me and my mom when I was in high school. I think it sank in and I still believe it. But I'm gonna try my best!

My mom tried convincing me all my life I was big-boned.  Now when she tries to convince me she's big-boned (she's working on getting into shape with me, I've lost over 70 pounds, she hasn't lost anything) I laugh at her.

Don't try to pull that excuse on me now, Momma.  I ain't buying it.
lmao screw that! My close friend who is very thin, she's actually like 8 years older than me..more of a mentor. She's never told me i could never be thin but she has told me before that i am big boned, i think when i used to be chubbier she just said it to make me feel better even though it didn't. Case in point, i've lost 20-25 lbs since then and everyone has told me how skinny i am including ppl who only met me recently so they aren't jus sayin i'm skinny because they knew i was dieting.  People who have jus met me who didn't know how much i weighed before have told me i have a  slim frame. So ya, no such thing as big boned. I do have broad shoulders but they are only more accentuated and awesome lookin now that i've lost. So SCREW EM, i promise u ..they are all wrong.

I've gotten the big boned comment from friends. Oh , and the ever popular "you would be so pretty if you just lost some weight".  Although that was back in the day.

im a man, but my mum used to say that to me

made me feel good in the short term

turns out i did have a large frame, but that didnt negate the large amounts of lard hanging off me

That makes no sense at all.  If you really do have a large frame, then you should be able to weigh MORE and still look skinny.  Somebody who has a small frame and weighs 150 will look bigger than somebody who has a large frame and weighs 150.

i remember back in 7th grade someone told me that i "would be soooooo skinny if i were taller."

not really the same thing, but ew Undecided

No, I've never ever got the "big bone" comment.

But I've goteen much worse. My mother is 4'10 and has never weighed over 95 pounds. My dad is 6'4 and everyone on that side of the family are really really tall.

Well all the time I was growing up (and even to this day) I've been told most of my life, by my mother and numerous other family members. "Wow, if you had just gotten your dad's height and your mom's built, you would be georgous!" Talk about having a "fat girl" complex all growing up!

Yeah, I've heard that.  It's ridiculous.  My wrists, even my forearms, are so tiny.  So unless the rest of my bones are disproportionately large...they're wrong!

I hope that you make it to the weight that you want to be. I'm having the same problem with people around me they say 160 will look bad on me and I am big boned but I don't believe it will lokk that bad at all

What do bones have to do with fat?? Yes, if you are big-boned you will weigh more than if you were not...but no one is really talking about bones when they say big-boned, are they. It's just a euphamism for fat. It's entirely possible to be both big-boned and skinny at the same time, so I think what those people really mean is, you are a fat person and not meant to be skinny, so you may as well throw in the towel. Bah!

Well I recently got a lean body mass test done, and discovered I actually AM big-boned lol....it's nice to know I may have less actual pounds to lose than I thought, but I will be very happy when I can see some of those bones instead of just the fat that covers them!

yeah i hate that. when talking about weight with all of my friends, they always guess my weight at a much lower numbre than what it really is because they think well you're just big, not saying you're fat, but i meant even if you weighed 120 you'd still be a big girl. ummm no! if i was 5-8 and weighed 120 pounds i would not be big! i would be a stick! haha

Oh gosh...I got that from my mother all the time growing up!  Seriously, from about the time I was 10 or so--also, she told me that I would never be able to fit into single digit sizes *sigh*  I know it's not true, but it's just annoying to hear!

I've got news for them.  I'm big boned (my wrist measures 8.5", which is big for a woman) and I was skinny until I hit menopause when I really packed on the weight.  I hope to be skinny again someday.  When you have a larger bone structure you'll look good in all kinds of clothes, so that's a real incentive.  I looked my best in a size 10 - any smaller and I looked emaciated.  It's true you'll weigh more because bones are heavy.

heard it. did not care then, do not care now.

I AM ALSO 5' 7". AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD COUNTLESS TIMES THAT I AM BIG BONED...ACCORDING TO THE WRIST TEST FOR ME, I'M THE MIDDLE ONE.  I COULD PROBABLY GET TO 140 NO PROBLEM...BUT ANYTHING LESS THAN THAT WOULDN'T LOOK RIGHT ON ME. RIGHT NOW I AM OVER WEIGHT. NO BIG BONES ABOUT IT LOL...AND I AM AIMING FOR 150. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS IGNORE WHAT THEY SAY AND JUDGE FOR YOURSELF. WHEN YOU LOSE MORE WEIGHT...JUST LOOK AT YOURSELF...IF YOU LOOK RIGHT AT 140...MAINTAIN IT..CUZ MAYBE YOU WOULDN'T LOOK GOOD AT 120 YA KNOW?
