Anyone in their late 20s?!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm a dieting veteran.... up and down the same 20lbs since highschool! I've always lost it on Weight Watchers...but I wanted to try something new. So, here I am. I'm looking to start a group of late 20- early 30 year olds who are interested in losing weight and getting healthy. I'm 5' 9" 160lbs.  I'm looking for others that have about 20-30lbs to lose.  Hopefully there's some people out there!!

Happy New Year!

Have any room in the group for another?  I'm 27 (almost 28 Cry), with a new baby (my 2nd), and 40 pounds to lose (according to this site, anyway, I'd be happy with losing 27 pounds).   This is my first week on this website, so I haven't lost any - but I am optimistic, and could use some people to talk to.

I am good at working out - don't mind it at all - but I have NEVER been able to lose weight by working out.  I don't gain weight while working out, but have to diet also if I want to lose anything.  I am a social eater, and I spend way too much time during my day deciding what to eat - can anyone relate to that?  You eat breakfast and you are already day dreaming about lunch.  It's a habit I'd love to break.

Hi everyone! I'm still pretty new to CC (been on a bit over a month now). I'll be 29 this summer - whew! I'm 5'8'' with about 25 pounds to lose to get back to my college physique. I've lost 13 pounds in the last 7 weeks - so I'm pretty sure I can do it. I've always eaten pretty well but portions were always my problem - I'm doing 100% better now though and I workout 5 days a week. So all that being said - I hope to meet my goal by July, wish me luck! Smile

Samiaz, when I lowered my goal weight by a couple of pounds that actually helped motivate me. Going from "I just have 5 lbs to lose, I can do that any time" to "oh, boy, I have 8 lbs to lose, I better get working on that" made quite a difference, made it seem more like a project I actually had to WORK on.  Anyway, hope you're enjoying the sun and wearing sunscreen.

I haven't tried laser but a cousin who has the same skin type and hair patterns as me did and she was unimpressed.  It was a huge hassle, expensive, and everything grew back.  That was a couple of years ago, though, maybe the options have gotten better.

Welcome shelly and renosvt!  Wow, Shelly, 13lbs already is impressive!  It sounds like you know what works for you and you're doing it.  Renosvt, I have the opposite problem to you in that I really DO mind working out but don't have a big problem watching what I eat - but exercise is what actually makes a difference to me.  I can relate to dreaming about supper while I'm eating lunch.  I also find I spend my afternoons at work making grocery lists in my head and considering stopping at the store for ingredients for decadent meals on the way home, then having to talk myself out of taking the route past the store.

Thanks for the welcome vegetariangeek! Consistency works best for me - I just have to stay on it. I joined a 6 week training boot camp to help - if I'm paying I'm going, lol!

Morning everyone!

Welcome, shelly and rensvt!

So one of my friends on here, betsytuck posted this on her journal last week, and I had to share it will y'all!  I had to get this list in my head to get to where I am now - maybe it will help someone else, too!

Got this from the NutriSystem website but it's so good it needs to be shared.

25 ways to think yourself thin.

1. The only thing between you and your goal is Y O U!

2. Practice makes perfect; soon enough healthy habits will be second nature.

3. Food is simply food; not friend, not foe...just food.

4. Cheaters never win, and winners never cheat.

5. This isn't a race; slow down and enjoy the ride.

6. Exercise is not your enemy.  Fear of it is.

7. Excuses leave room for error - and you don't have time for either.

8. Do you need it?  Or do you want it?  There's a big difference.

9. Usually, saying "I can't" really means "I won't".

10. Positivity promotes productivity; believe in yourself and your body will follow.

11. You are your harshest critic - be a fan once in a while.

12. There's strength in numbers and no valor in being a lone loser.  Ask for help.

13. Compliments are meant to be enjoyed, not endured.

14. Toot your own horn once in a while, too; you deserve it.

15. Reaching goal is a dream come true, but it takes doing - not dreaming - to get there.

16. "Til death do you part - there's no quick fix for your weight...you have to live it for life.

17. Don't let others' opinions "weigh" you down; nothing good ever came of self-hatred.

18. You didn' put this weight on overnight; don't expect it to come off overnight.

19. Don't dwell; if you fall off the wagon, get right back on and look forward.

20. Walk before you run; set attainable mini-goals along the road to the big one.

21. Always be honest with yourself.

22. Tune out temptation; listen to the angel on your shoulder, not the devil.

23. Rain checks are good; it's smart (not weak) to avoid situations that test your resolve.

24. Being selfish is okay; do this for YOU.

25. Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.

These are really good ideas. But HARD to internalize!!

Gah.

I hate how when ANYTHING else is in the slightest bit imperfect in the rest of my life, all I want to do is sit around and eat junk food, preferably in my bed.  I can be totally on track with eating, and at least making a valiant effort with exercise, but I just seem to get derailed so easily.

I got mad at my bf and the only thing I could really think of to do was get into my pyjamas and make some popcorn.  Then I RECOGNISED that that was just emotional eating and tried to get myself to do something else and then wound up even more depressed because I felt like there was nothing else I could do.  I called a couple friends and no one was home, it was late so everything was closed, etc.

Hi everyone.  Welcome new people!

Vegetariangeek, I'm right there with you.  Life got the best of me and I'm atleast 150 again. @*!$&"$.

I may have lost a battle, but I won't lose the war.  I'm going back to my exercise routines from before when I was losing 1-2 lbs. per week. That means jogging 40 minutes and weights, everyday. (Well 6 days a week is good enough for me.)

Renosvt, I cook for me and my dh and I'm always thinking about the next meal.  Always. My life seems to revolve around food. I think it's cultural too.

vpireiner, Congrats!!! How's it going?? To be so close to your goal weight, that's amazing. I have less than 2 weeks to my move and I haven't started packing. :0

Samiaz, I'm a little mad at you for being so skinny.  ;) Okay, not mad, proud. 146 is still an achievement. I don't know about the laser treatments, but I'm thinking you  should try and let us know.

I'm new around here...can I join in? I'm 27, female, 5'8" and 171lbs. I was skinny all my life but thought I was fat and was never comfortable in my body. Then three years ago, I moved in with my boyfriend and gained over 30lbs (what can I say, he's an excellent cook). And now here I am trying to lose weight so I can get my old body back. Oh the irony!

Since last September I've lost 17lbs and have only 23lbs left to go until I'm back at 150. I was aiming for 140 but realized that with my body type (medium frame, athletic, with lots of muscle) I would look pretty sickly if I went that low. Even at my present weight I wear a size 8/10 and my abs are already visible so I think it's healthier for me to stay at the higher end of my weight range.

I haven't lost anything since March and thought I had plateaued, until I resumed counting calories and weighing my food - something I hadn't done since last October - and found that I was eating way more than I thought. I guess my progress made me a little more complacent in my eating habits. I enjoy exercise and have no problem getting to the gym 6 times a week but I hate having to watch what I eat so that is what I struggle with the most. I'm hoping participating in this forum will help me keep on track so I can lose this last bit of weight before I turn 28 in September.

Whew, sorry for the lengthy post! Smile

I can definitely relate to this. I actually started trying to lose weight two years ago but wasn't successful because I thought all I needed to do was exercise. I exercised six days a week for 30minutes to an hour, but it wasn't until l started watching my portion sizes last fall that the weight started falling off. I love food and like you, I'm often thinking about my next meal. One thing that helps me is to make sure I'm eating healthy nutritious foods that fill me up because I find it's a lot easier not to give in to my desire to eat mindlessly when I have a full stomach.

foxy lady, you make me laugh. funny funny!.  you have plenty time to catch up because i have been slacking all week anyway. i've been eating lots of salad, BUT .. ceasor salad ( creamy dressing, bacon bits, croutons, cheese.... yum). so yah, not helping the weight loss. desert has been jello topped with whip cream or ice cream. i don't feel guilty at all, i enjoyed it, and i will get serious again tomorrow. okay foxylady, lets do this, well ALL of us!!!!

one thing i'm proud of is that i eat less bread, cereal, pasta.. things like that. i have more control finally.

i am jealous of all you people exercising. i'm lazy about it and on top of that, i have regular physio therapy for a leg injury that's over a year old. i finally decided to do something about it, but any lower body exercises are not happening... painful ( no running, no cycling, no elliptical)Frown

vpireiner... thanks for the messages of motivation. #1,7,8,9,19,23, 25 really stick for me.

hello to everyone else, keep it up.

i think i have to investigate laser more before i dish out all that money for it.

ttyl, watching a  hockey game.Smile

Finally ... a friend dragged my butt to the gym and I actually WORKED.  Not flipping through a magazine for 15 minutes on the elliptical's lowest intensity, but an actual strenuous 75 minute workout.  Woo-hoo!

Samiaz when I read your last post my eye must have twitched because I thought I read "jello topped with bacon bits."  Well, at least now you know you could be eating worse :)

vegetariangeek.... lol. well you're right, could be worse. actually, the way i've been eating this weekend so far is probably my worse weekend this year. i won't even begin to list what i just ate a couple hours ago. never good when you feel sick after. here is the problem....i skipped breakfast and lunch yesterday. but by mid afternoon i had an incredible desire for chocolate. i walked into the store, and looked at the selection, then found the will power to walk out. but the craving was still there... any way came home, and devoured a lot more. my eyes were bigger than my stomach. ah well, tomorrow is a new day right!?! tonight i'm having a plate of only vegetables for supper.

i was on my way to a cocktail party tonight ( with lots of cocktails), but i decided to skip out on it because its too far to drive. it's a good thing because that would have sealed the deal on a horrible weekend of bad eating.

Hate it when that happens, but good thing you didn't go to the calorie-fest.  Maybe if you have the energy ... and aren't sugar-crashing ... you can chop up some raw fruits and veggies to snack on tomorrow.

Hey, how's everybody doing????

I just had a kind of bad week for sugar consumption, but the weather was so nice I was doing more outdoors things which evened things out.  Yesterday I cleaned out my fridge so there would be more room for fruit and veggies, which I will go pick up this evening.

Bumping, bumping, is anyone out there? I miss this group!

Man, where'd the group go?  Anyone have any good threads for me to join??

Oh, hurray, someone else is back!  How are you doing?

Great!  I'm exercising and eating right, and feel like I'm on the right track.  I moved from Turkey to California and am welcoming the changes.

How are you?

Hello ladies!

I'm back, too!  I've been moving and without internet for 6 weeks!  (ok, so more like 8)  I hope everyone is doing well!  Welcome to those who are new to the group!

Update:  I turned 30 May 7th.  On April 30th I weighed 131...1lb from my goal!  I was ECSTATIC!  I bought myself some new (TMI warning) Bras, and established a new goal...I want to lose enough weight to go down 1 more cup size.  Then I would be able to buy off the rack just about anywhere (instead of the expensive stores).  I dont' have a time line set for this goal yet, so I'm open to suggestions.  I am guessing that it will be another 5-10lbs to lose to do this.

I also have a question...I'm in a new job - another lab job where I'm mostly sedentary throughout the day.  I also have a 50min drive (1 way) followed by a 10-20 min bus ride (also 1 way) to get to and from work.  This means I am up by 5:30 and out of the house by 6:30am and don't get home until 6:30 or 7pm (depending on when I am able to leave work).  Once I cook dinner and eat, it's usually ~9pm and bed time is ~10-11pm.   I don't feel like I have time to add in an hour at the gym, and I don't know if it would be worth wile to join a gym either at work or home.  I'm going to try taking the 6 flights of stairs everyday to help keep me from turning into a fat blob, but I'd love some ideas as to what I can do to keep up the exercise!
