I'm a dieting veteran.... up and down the same 20lbs since highschool! I've always lost it on Weight Watchers...but I wanted to try something new. So, here I am. I'm looking to start a group of late 20- early 30 year olds who are interested in losing weight and getting healthy. I'm 5' 9" 160lbs. I'm looking for others that have about 20-30lbs to lose. Hopefully there's some people out there!!
Happy New Year!
VP!!! You're back!! Wow, what amazing success - good for you! The gym and gym buddy sound great.
Hi everyone- i used to be on CC and I am back now. I am 29, 5'4", and 131lbs. My goal is to get to 120-125- that is where I am most comfortable and feel more like myself. This 'extra' weight right now is on my hips/butt/upper thighs and I have committed a few times to do what it takes, only to sabotoage myself.
I want to get serious! I must hit the gym at LEAST 4 days/wk for 1 hour, and cut back on fat in my diet. I don't eat fried foods, etc, but I do have cheese, dressings. I eat them on the side adn try to have them in moderation, but as I found out in highschool, a low fat, low refined carb diet with plent of exercise gets me the results i want. I gained 30lbs my freshman year of college, and was able to loose it, so I have every confidence I can do this. It may seem like a trivial amount to some, but it is just that 'left over' that I can't get rid of. But i will!
Welcome Shelley! I've got about the same issue as you ... 5'3", 129 (!!!) and would like to be 119. Or at least 125 where I am "comfortable." I agree it might seem trivial but those 5 or 6 lbs really show up on a short person!
Shelly: I am 27, 5'4 and 134 lbs....I am trying hard to lose the last 7-10 as well...I tend to carry around my waist and upper thighs...so far, I have found weight lifting along with cardio to be beneficial in losing inches in those problem areas....but it has been a struggle to whittle away those last few pesky pounds....good luck!
Thanks, vegetarian and kdria! I appreciate the replies.
Veg- You are right- it does show up on a short person so much more. My sister is 5'9", and she told me she gained weight, but you can't see it!
Kdria- thanks for the advice
We can do it ladies!
Welcome Shelly! I'm right there with you...30 (still late 20's, right?!), 5'4" and ~130lbs wanting to be 120-125lbs. Tend to carry it at the waist, and bust, and all over, really.
My sister (who's done some personal training) has coached me through loosing the first 25lbs - they came off relatively easily (at least compared to these last 5-10!). She always tells me that those last ones are tha hardest and you've got to really push to get them off. I try to do at least 3 sessions at the gym a week that involve some form of cardio...thinking I need to up this a bit and really push to get these off. That combined with lots of green leafy veggies...and the lbs start to move.
How's life ladies? I'm sure everyone's been busy with this or that. Good V day? DH and I had reservations at a place in town - very nice, but VERY overpriced. We had a great weekend, though. He's on call this weekend, so I'm going to try to get in an extra work out or two and try to plan out some good meals...I'm anxcioous for spring time and the garden we're planning on planting. Fresh veggies make eating salads and such SO much nicer! I hate mealy winter tomatoes!
How is everyone doing? As always, my motivation goes up and down ... this week I'm motivated by an event I want to look nice at (tomorrow night), other times I seem to be motivated more by cheesecake.
I'm not working near the gym anymore, so I have totally stopped going. Boo. I am getting better at working out at home though - I think there comes a time in every relationship when you just have to get over your embarassment about jumping up and down to pop music and sweating profusely in front of your significant other. It's a small house, no private workout area. As the days are starting to get longer I also have a bit more energy to exercise before and after work, and even just not want to crawl into bed at 6pm!
Work and other commitments have been busy too, and I know if I've been out of the house for 14 hours, I am just not going to come home and pull out a workout DVD. It's funny, though - getting home early to work out becomes a treat after a few long workdays! My boyfriend and I are starting a "no processed foods" plan as of this weekend so that should be good too (the Farmer's Market tomatoes aren't so bad!)
good idea about the farmers market - I might have to see if ours is open through the winter or if it has shut down until spring...hmmm...
totally agree about the working out at home thing - somehow it isn't as embarrassing to workout with total strangers or your gym buddy, but your SO...forget it. dh wouldn't dare tease me, and tried to give me privacy, but it was still awkward (and we've been together for 12 years!). More power to you working out at home!
Have a great weekend everybody!
I just started trying to work out at home again as of Tuesday. Problem with working out at home is disciplining yourself to keep doing it. I do really well with it for about a week straight, and then i lose interest. I can't afford a gym membership right now because I'm unemployed, so this is my only choice! What I keep reminding myself is to keep moving for at least 40 mins....no matter what i'm doing, even if it's just jumping around. that's what's going to burn the fat.
As for eating habits, i am combining my need for low carb with my need to save money. I just made a HUGE pot of veggie chili using lentils, kidney beans, and black beans. I froze most of it for later, because i have a bunch of fresh veggies in my fridge. The last time I started to successfully lose weight was when i ate a lot of raw vegetables every day.
Raw vegetables are awesome ... but sometimes so unappetizing when it's -16 outside. Chili, on the other hand ...
Ningyo, I also just jump around, dance stupidly a lot of the time. I figure it's probably working some different muscle groups. My library also loans workout DVDs so once in a while I rent one for some new inspiration.
VP, a lot of my embarassment over working out in front of my boyfriend is not the sweating, but the music. He is a bit of a music snob, and while I definitely appreciate his "refined" taste, he just doesn't appreciate that sometimes "Pump Up the Jam" is the best way to get my butt off the couch and working out :)
Where did my motivation go?
I just ate a Twix bar ... preceded by a granola bar and an entire roll of Mentos. I was trying to stay away from refined sugar!
If it makes you feel better, I am feeling absolutely tortured today because i can't eat what i want.
I have a photoshoot tomorrow for a magazine....and all day I've been exercising, eating only protein, and drinking green tea. All I can think about is cookies and chocolate that I can't have!! I swear every commercial on TV is about cookies.
Tomorrow after the shoot I have to buy something to satisfy my sweet tooth. I could never be a full-time model because I love food WAY too much.
Eating only protein ... yikes. What exactly are you eating?
I'm sort of going to be in your shoes tomorrow and Thurs - I have a really important meeting on Friday and I really don't want to break out ... and my skin is basically sensitive to fat, sugar, and preservatives. So fruit and raw vegetables and water are going to be the mainstays, assuming I can stick to it. But I really really don't want to break out!
Hi everyone,
I just joined this site oday and came across this group.. I'm 26, 150 lbs and i'm going to jamaica in july. I really need to lose about 20 lbs and am realy struggling with it. i've never dieted before because i didnt really start gaining wait til after i had my tubes tied, recently. i'm trying to do the calorie thing. we'll see how that goes. i don't have time to really exercise b/c i hae 4 kids, work f/t and go to school p/t. i could really use the help! i hope its not too late!
Hi caramelb8, welcome!
vegetarian geek - just for today i ate canned tuna, raw unsalted nuts, vegan breakfast "sausage" patties, raw broccoli & squash, and lentils. actually, the vegetables and beans do have some carbs in them. basically following the South Beach diet. Oh, and drinking lots of water w/ everything. let's face it......i didn't want to do something drastic like starve myself for a day because it would make me weak and my skin would look sallow. so in order to still eat but (hopefully?) drop a lb or 2 overnight, this seemed like the best route.
Welcome Caramel! This is a really useful website, hope it works for you. I would htink chasing 4 kids around would be plenty of exercise!
Sounds like a pretty healthy day, Ningyo, and something that would be great for your skin!
I'm just so COLD I keep drinking coffee instead of water :( Better switch to green tea for the rest of today (it's about -20 here).
I would like to brag: I hit the gym hardcore yesterday.
way to go, vegetarian geek! that's totally worth bragging about =)
Hi everybody,
This thread seems to be female dominated, but I guess I'll try and post here.
I'm 29 yrs, 5'10" and 179. I've gained about 40 pounds since college and found this site about 2 weeks ago and have lost around 5 pounds.
Keeping track of everything I put in my body really makes me stop and think about what I am going to eat.
Well anyway, I hope I can keep this up, and best of luck to everybody!
CONGRATS! I also lost about 5 ponds and I aso just started last week. I'm so excited!
