Anyone in their late 20s?!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm a dieting veteran.... up and down the same 20lbs since highschool! I've always lost it on Weight Watchers...but I wanted to try something new. So, here I am. I'm looking to start a group of late 20- early 30 year olds who are interested in losing weight and getting healthy. I'm 5' 9" 160lbs.  I'm looking for others that have about 20-30lbs to lose.  Hopefully there's some people out there!!

Happy New Year!

I heard about the massive storms in the news.... Crazy!  And fires in BC?  It sounds like the apocalpse has come to Canada :)

Congrats on getting projects done around the house.  I have had motivation for nothing at all....  the boyfriend says, "that's okay, take a week off your side projects, and don't feel guilty".  I am enjoying reading my books and watching tv for once!

Any luck with conception yet??

My mom used to make a really yummy zuccini bread that was like brownies... she used apple sauce instead of sugar too, so it's really good for you.  Will ask her for the recipe!

Had 3 take-aways over friday and the weekend and ate everything I wanted during those meals.  The guilt was immense, but I still managed to lose a little this week (thanks to exercise and good eating for the rest of the week).  Good news for me too! I've lost another inch in my waist!  YAY!!!  I'm an apple shape, so getting my waist under 32" (which is where you have an increased risk for all those fatty illnesses because you're carrying fat around your organs) is the ultimate goal.  Around my smallest bit right under my ribcage, I'm 32.5, but at my navel I'm 36.  i would love to get that 36 down to 32!  Do you guys have problem areas like that too?  Still worried I'll lose my butt if I get down that small though... LOL!

Take care ladies!  Keep up the good work.

I am down 1lb - woo hoo! Finally! I think this cardio is paying off.

I have never really taken out a tape measure and checked the size of my mid-section ... I suppose that would be a good idea! I know my jeans size but I'm sure it isn't what my actual waist size is.  It tends to "muffin top" over the waistband of my jeans, so ... this could be a scary evening tonight.  My tummy is most definitely my most serious "problem area" - I have a tendency towards thunder thighs, but my legs look reasonable when I exercise.  I've always had a nonexistent butt no matter how heavy I get, it never goes there, but I'm just roly-poly in the middle. And serious batwings under the arms.  Oh well.

More motivation - just found out I get to go to a lake for a long weekend in August - great opportunity to sit in the sun and drink beer and eat barbecue :) But it also means getting into skimpy summer clothes, if not an actual swimsuit, in the presence of some skinny body-obsessed women.

Hi guys...

Just had an idea (based on vg's last post)...

How about a mini challenge?  We give ourselves goals for September 1st.  They should be VERY realistic!  Then on september 1st, we say what percentage of our goals we have reached (and if you surpass your goal, you get 110% or something, like grades in school)!  It's about 6 weeks away, and it would be nice to get there together.

If you think it's a stupid idea, that's cool... I just thought since we've all been at it for a while, a challenge would be fun.

Let me know what you think!

I could give that a try!

Some of my goals are: gym three times/week, lose 4lbs by Sept 1 (that's realism - possible would be 8lbs but highly unlikely), eat 4 servings of fruit every day.

It's a great idea, I think!  Except as I'm sitting here and thinking about what I am going to commit to, I am getting a little nervous...  Once you write it down you are committed and when it comes to this kind of stuff I am a bit of a commitment-phobe!  Okay, mine will be:

  • try to only drink beer on the weekend and specific social occasions (not just when I am sitting around)
  • exercise in some form 3-4 times a week (my newest addiction is jumping rope--so portable and hard to say that you can't find the time!)
  • Bread products only once a day at least five days a week

I think those are pretty realistic for me and are tried and true methods for me to shed a few pounds.  September 1 will be the official check in, but I have a wedding at the end of August so that will be another deadline to meet!

As far as problem areas, my mine definitely from my butt to my knees.  It's so crazy how everyone has different areas where the bad food goes.  It always kills me to hear girls wishing they had a larger butt.  "I Like Big Butts" is officially my theme song now even though it was the bain of my existence in high school :)  My long standing joke whenever I'm eating something bad for me is, "Don't worry, I'll just put that in my trunk".  May as well own it since that is where it heads anyways!  My tummy is great actually, but from hips to knees I could definitely use some work!!

Good luck girls!

Yea!  Challenge!

Okay, here's mine:

1. Get down to 67kg (2.5 kg from my current weight)

2. Waist down to 30.5" (currently 32") and navel down to 34" (currently 36")

3. Exercise: 2 days cardio, 2 days strength

4. Drinking: 2 days per week or less (OR less than 750 cal from alcohol per week)

I guess you can just give your compliance rate, so for the commitment phobe, you can say I was 82% compliant ;)  Which is an A, according to my teachers!  I'm so jealous of your nice stomach.... have never been able to wear a bikini, even when I was 120lbs back in highschool as it just never looks that good.  Maybe once I have a 6 pack... hahaha!  4 fruits every day?  That's loads!  I think I do 2, but probably 4 servings veg.

Anyway girls, it's thursday tomorrow... only one more day until the weekend!  woot!

You guys crack me up.  :)

I love challenges.

Goal:

1.   145 lbs.

2.   Sweat Everyday

3.   Log my food

I put Zucchini in everything! Burritos, Lasagna, veggie burgers (or non-veggie), really anything. They're one of the perfect foods.

Kassy, my mom used to make the bread with applesauce too. Sooooo yummy.

Maybe the challenge will be just what I need to help pull me out of the funk I'm in.  I think I'm going to go buy a scale to keep at the house.  Since Sunday will be the first day w/o bc (technically AF week), I'll start charting bbt and weight on the same day.   I've got a couple coupons for Bed, Bath and Beyond...maybe I'll go by this evening and pick one up (a scale).  Anybody have experience of what happens when you come off bc?  I know when I went on I put on 10-15 lbs....  I somehow doubt that it will come back off when I stop the bc.

hmmm...challenge goals....

DH wants to go clamming in 2 weeks and my mom, sister and I might be heading to Bermuda the first weekend in September...so baithing suit body would be nice (and since I only own a 2-piece...scarey)...

If i trust the scale at Golds I'm at about 125 and hovering.  I'd like to be between 120 and 125...my initial goal for the summer...

I guess... if I'm actually going to be successful with the weight loss I'll need to

1.  3x a week at the gym (regardless of barn schedule)

2.  daily food diary and calorie counting - max calorie intake of 1500 calories/day (I was seriously loosing at ~1000-1200/day).

If I do that, I should be able to drop a lb or two by the 1st of September!  Oh, and my problem area is certainly my middle.  My legs are short and shapley with minimal cellulose (thank goodness), but my middle tends to be unruley.  My upper arms are better now that I've lost the first 25lbs and hit the gym, but they could use a bit more tone.  I wouldn't mind losing enough to shrink my bust 1 more cup size (problem area #2...chicken wings and back rolls at the bust...better bras = better fit = less problem areas!)

Ok, so now...how are we held accountable between now and then?

(sorry for the long post...I'm bored at work and feeling chatty!)

Wink

Wow, VP, that's a lot to chart!  I'm doing the same stuff though. Good luck. I've never gained weight from coming off of bc, so no worries, although AF might be weird for a couple of months.

I say Friday weigh-ins/updates . . .

So, one day after I made these commitments I a) went out for wings b) drank beer (although that was socially so it stayed within my guidelines and c) didn't exercise... Looks like I am off to a rip-roaring good start ;)  Oh well, it's a new day!

LOL, Goldie!  I'm probably going to go bust this weekend...I worked REALLY hard to not go over my 1500 claories last night...all I wanted was more food!

Thanks, Foxy for the info on the bc removal.  That's the scariest part for me...what is my body going to do to me?!?!

It is a lot to chart, but CC makes the food diary, exercise log (which, as long as it is 3x a week, I dont' really care how accurate that part is) and weight log pretty easy.  The bbt dh is going to help with, so it shouldn't be too bad.  I am hoping that charting all this crap will help me regain control over my eating habits that are starting to get back into the bad run that put me 25lbs heavier than I am now....not a good thing.

Have a great weekend everyone!  Good luck with the start of the challenge!

*sings* "Back in the saddle again..."

Smile

I ate brownie cookies.Yell D'oh!

Goals Update: I exercised, but didn't log all my food. Weigh 149.2.

Foxy and Goldie, you two make me laugh :)

I've been both wonderful and terrible this week.  The good part was exercise: I went to the gym twice and worked HARD, and then last night I went on a two-hour hike in a hilly ravine. My bike broke last Sunday so I think walking to work has burned a few extra calories.  The bad: a burrito and chips after my hike, about 8 Oreos in one sitting on Wednesday, half a brownie for breakfast yesterday, and a buttered muffin for brekkie today. It is TTOM, but ... I guess the extra exercise is giving me a bigger appetite.  For sugar :(

I was supposed to go to a birthday party at an Italian restaurant tonight.  My boyfriend didn't feel like it last minute which kind of bugs me b/c I'm sitting around playing internet Scrabble on a Friday night and I really wanted to go out.  But the bright side is, I'm sure I saved a bunch of calories :/

I hope everyone had a good weekend! I'm sad to say I pigged out :( I'm changing my goal of "4 fruits/day" to NO refined sugar! Once I start, I just can't seem to stop.

Must have been something in the air this weekend!  I did my 3x a week for the gym and hit the barn on Saturday...but my eating was WAY over my calorie limit.  I ate a big breakfast on Saturday followed that with a burger and fries for lunch and a big mexican dinner.  Sunday I was a little better, but I still ate a decent sized ice cream sundae.  I know it's TTOM, but this weekend was a little much!

Hopefully I'll do better during the week...I am thinking that if I'm a little stricter on calorie intake during the week, I can be a little more flexible on the weekends when I tend to indulge.

On a different note, I bought a scale this weekend.  I intend to get on it daily and keep track of my weight with my bbt.  I was not happy with the number this morning, but considering AF's looming visit and all the junk I ate this weekend, I guess it could be worse!  Now, at least, I can keep track of it all with 1 scale instead of all the variation of the gym scale.

I know - sometimes I think summer is supposed to be the season of ice water and fruit so I'm guaranteed not to lose weight, but even with the heat wave my appetite was crazy. It is easier to get into a good routine when you have your work schedule I think.

For the past few weeks I've been eating this protein cereal (President's Choice "On Track Plus Protein") which is basically a store brand version of Kashi Go Lean. It really fills me up in the mornings, but it's also pretty sugary so I was thinking of going back to oatmeal with some protein powder added. Have any of you ever tried putting protein powder on your food? I've had it in my Booster Juice smoothies and dind't notice any taste, but I haven't actually used it at home before.

It was in the air this weekend.   Ugggh!   I got on the scale this morning (which I shouldn't have) and it was all bad news. OF course, I too ate bad all weekend. I had buffalo wings, beer and a lot of mexican food.

This week I will be good. (chanting: I will be good, I will be good)

I have a test at the docs today where they shoot die through my fallopian tubes... good times... I'll be sure to let you guys know how it goes.  ;)

VG: I haven't tried protein powder, but I put ground flax seed in my food. It's basically, omega-3's, lignans, protein, and fiber. That and wheat germ.

Ah, the Monday Morning Mantras ... more water, no sugar, no fried foods. More water, no sugar, no fried foods ...

Haha... My Monday morning mantra is always, "Please God let them invent a miracle drug so I can drink more beer, more cheese and more fried foods..."  Weird how similar they are if you think about it :)

So Foxy, I know it's non of my business but why are they dying your fallopian tubes?  Issues are just a precautionary thing?  The older I get (and without kids, I might add) the more paranoid I get that when/if I do decide to have kids my plumbing may not be as perfect as it used to be!  Thus the interest... Anyways, hope everything goes well and the procedure isn't uncomfortable for you.

VG, not sure if you have the time in the morning, but I have started making breakfast burritos using egg beaters (or some other egg substitute), red and green peppers, onions, mushrooms, grated zucchini (inspired by our earlier posts and a TONNE of it from the man's mom).  I chop all those up really small and saute them with either just s&p or some taco spice (you can do a huge container of this in advance to save time).  Then I roll it up with some baby spinach leaves and salsa in a flax tortilla and devour!  Then again, I am kind of adventurous at breakfasts, but it is a great way to pack in some uber-good-for-veggies at breakfast time and tastes wonderful.  Just a thought :)
