Anyone in their late 20s?!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm a dieting veteran.... up and down the same 20lbs since highschool! I've always lost it on Weight Watchers...but I wanted to try something new. So, here I am. I'm looking to start a group of late 20- early 30 year olds who are interested in losing weight and getting healthy. I'm 5' 9" 160lbs.  I'm looking for others that have about 20-30lbs to lose.  Hopefully there's some people out there!!

Happy New Year!

I hate when I do that!  Did everyone have a good weekend???  Smile

I had a great weekend with dh.  We worked Friday evening and Saturday (after we ran errands in the morning) and I was a total sloth on Sunday.  It was great.  I wasn't horrible food-wise, but I wasn't great, either.  I know I went overboard on Saturday night, but it was our first date night in a long time and dh took me to dinner at a nice little Italian place.  I just had to have a piece of the pumpkin cheesecake they had for dessert!

I'm ready to go home and take a nap, today.  There is a big piece of me that wishes I lived closer to work so I could go home for lunch and actually nap in the middle of the day.  I've been getting So tired!

Your weekend sounds great, VP! Date nights are so awesome :) Are you able to put your head down somewhere at work and catch a few winks? Do you have an office door that shuts?

I've been super-busy at work the past few days and "just grabbing a bite here and there" is adding up! I had a really low-cal dinner to try and compensate last night but tonight I'm supposed to go to a movie RIGHT after work so I have to think of something so I don't pig out on popcorn (I will try to find a grocery store on the way to the theatre and grab some baby carrots or something).

The weekend was pretty good, I did a lot of walking on Saturday and went to the gym with my BF on Sunday (that was really fun - we hardly ever work out together). I took a brisk walk at lunch yesterday too. If I can hold out till 8:30 when the movie ends and have a healthy dinner I'll feel like I'm doing well today.

Did you guys do anything fun for Halloween? I stayed home with a big bowl of candy for trick-or-treaters and not a single kid showed up! (I purposely got candy that I don't like so I wouldn't eat it.)

Nope and nope...unfortunately.  I'm in a lab, so I have a desk space and bench space, but nothing private.

VG, sounds like you've been doing pretty well, if you ask me.  Good luck with your will power and the movie!  It's tough to resist those consessions!  I will admit that the popcorn never tastes as good as it smells.

Good idea to get candy you don't like for Trick-or-treators.  My problem is that I'm not that picky...eventually, I get desperate enough and eat it anyway!  I'm fortunate though...no trick-or-treators.  My neighbors are a couple of cow pastures and a hay field!  I'm not a big Halloween person anyway, so it's no biggie.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Boy, has this week been busy. And it is not letting up. Work is quite a bit busier than usual - so many people are off sick I just keep getting asked to pitch in on more things. After work stuff seems to be crazy - I was thinking BF and I could just relax and hang out last night but people dropped by for dinner.  We're both busy tonight, and Saturday, and Sunday - fingers crossed for tomorrow staying open!

I went to the farmer's market on the weekend and we've pretty much gone through all the produce I bought (partly b/c the fruit wasn't great - the grapes started going bad after 3 days and the plums were sour).   I need to squeeze the grocery store in tonight otherwise we'll be eating cereal for supper tomorrow.

I have managed to work out twice this week at lunch, so that's been nice, and I think I can make it back to the gym on Saturday morning. The weather is surprisingly good today too - maybe I will walk over to the grocery store on my way home for work if the sun keep shining!

Oh, VP, I totally know how you feel! The early pregnancy sleepies. :) Try and rest whenever you get a chance and definitely rest at home.

Mmmmmmm..... pumpkin cheesecake........

I had friends and family over on Halloween, but I had a cold (that nasty thing going around everywhere apparently) and after a couple of glasses of wine I fell asleep (at 9ish!) so everyone had to clean up after themselves and hang out without me.

This stupid cold is hanging on for dear life, but it's given me an excuse to be lazy. I'm still eating well though.

VG, it does sound like you're doing good! Maybe after Sunday you can "just say no" to any social things for a couple of days or take a weekend off with just your BF...

hi im 26

i started at 190lbs in aug 09 and now im down 2 160lbs so happy. i would like 2 be 125lbs my june 2011. u can do it .

Hopefully you can find time to relax some this weekend, VG.  I totally understand about all the running around and such - after a while you need a break!  Sounds like you've been doing well with food and exercise, though!

Feel better soon, Foxy!  I hate being sick.  I'm crossing my fingers that I don't catch anything while pg...I never liked taking anything before, and now that I'm not 100% sound with the nausea and sleepiness and all, I don't know what any type of decongestants would do (at least the ones I would be allowed to take).

Welcome nboren!  This is a great group to join!  We're all trying to maintain/loose and still be able to live, so support is important!

Today is better than yesterday, that's for sure.  I still have moments where I'm considering running towards the bathroom, but so far so good.  I hit the gym last night for body pump and went through the motions.  Tonight, hopefully, I'll go running with my gym buddy (she needs to take her dog for a jog so she won't be at the gym).  Then, tomorrow, it's off to Mom's for the weekend!

Welcome nboren and good luck!  What kind of changes are you making that are working for you?

Foxy, falling asleep at your own party sounds tough - I hope it clears up soon. If you're eating well that should help your immune system :) VP you'd better get all your vitamins in there too!  Are you actually puking or just feeling like it? It's great that you've  got the energy to exercise.

I'm hoping next week will be lighter. A few things this week were volunteer commitments that only come up once in a while, but came all at once this week. And the random drop-ins for dinner - pretty out of the ordinary.  I guess I'm spoiled in that I do get a certain amount of free time - I should learn to appreciate it more.

Just feeling like it.  Some days/moments are better than others.  I've been really close a couple times today, but so far so good.  As for the energy...that comes and goes too.  I'm certainly dragging butt today!  Walked/jogged with my gym buddy last night through her neighborhood.  I'm glad I did it, but I think I over did it a bit.  It was only ~3 miles, but I'm worn out today.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  I'll fill you in on the news breaking (fingers crossed that all parties cooperate this weekend!) to the parents.

How was everyone's weekend? Is your cold better Foxy? Did you tell your family the news VP?

I had a pretty relaxing time - drank wine and vegged with my boyfriend on Friday night, went to a movie with a friend yesterday, and worked out yesterday morning.  I did have some chips, but I managed to cut myself off before finishing the bag.

I can really feel that I've been to the gym today - my calves more than anything else, and my triceps are also a little achy. I have tendonitis in my elbows which kind of creates a catch-22 : I should really try to strengthen my arm muscles as much as possible to take the strain off my elbows, but when the tendonitis flares up, lifting really hurts - and lifting too heavy weights makes it flare up as well.

Had a great weekend.  It's always a good visit with Mom!  We did end up telling my mom on Saturday night (she's really excited for us), but decided to tell dh's parents next weekend when we're there.  They were still not keen on driving to meet us on Sunday.

Sounds like you had a pretty good weekend, yourself, VG!  I love times when I can veg with dh.  What did you see at the theater on Sunday?  There are a few out that I'd like to see, but I'm far more inclined to wait until I can rent them.  (Although, I am hoping I'll get to go see New Moon when it comes out on Nov 20th!)

I'd be super careful with the tendonitis - try more reps with less weight.  I'm not an expert or anything, but that usually helps me with my achy spots.  Just don't over do it and cause yourself to have to be treated by a dr for something more serious.

I feel better too. I took it easy, ate whatever I wanted, but played racketball with dh and had soooo much fun. We sweated more in 20 minutes than 30+ of running. It was great. We also saw Men Who Stare at Goats. It was ok but not nearly as good as Oh Brother Where Art Thou.

VG, your weekend sounds awesome! I love the sore feeling. My abs are a little sore. :) Maybe you could ask a trainer at the gym how to lift with your injuries. I hate the idea of lifting with not enough weight. I'm sure there's some scientific way to slowly gain support muscles.... hmmmmm...

VP, it must have been so fun telling your mama! Stay active for your mental health, but try not to overdo it too much. Are you increasing your calories or is it too early for that?

Good for you, Foxy!  I love racketball (even though I pretty much suck at it!).  Good to know about Men Who Stare at Goats - I wondered about that.

I've not intentionally increased calories, I'm just eating what smells, looks and sounds good...really is more I eat what I can.  Tonight I'm going to get a Big Mac on my way home...been craving one for 2 weeks, now.  It's a strange thing, but hey...whatever...I'm pg, right?!  I am hoping/figuring on returning to healthy eating when I can stomach things again.  My snacks have been fresh fruit and veggies for the most part...so it's not too terrible.  :)

I'm going to see Men Who Stare At Goats tonight! The movie on Sunday was a documentary about Inuit communities - really really good.

I have never tried racketball. Is it as dangerous as it looks? Any injuries?

Lol. Dh and I aren't good enough to have that super fast game you guys are thinking of. Although I did hit his hand with my racket during the game. The ball is soft and doesn't hit us even though we bump around the court awkwardly.

VG, the movie does have some funny references for us hippy yogis, but it's a wierd combination of a Vietnam movie and Dazed & Confused. Let me know what you think.

VP, I don't know if you've ever had it, but I ate at In&Out for the first time in a long time. I was very naughtyTongue out. Burger and fries. It was satisfying and I won't need another for a long time.

Hope you all are having a good Tuesday!

Racket ball and fast don't go together in my book...heck I think I spent more time running around trying to pick up the ball after I missed it than actually playing the game!  Terribly funny and still good exercise!

I've not heard of an In&Out.  Probably yummy, though!  I had a BigMac and fries the other day, and a 10 piece chicken nugget yesterday (I went home early b/c I felt so terrible).  It's really bad...and super bad for me, but it stays down and I feel pretty steady after I eat it.  Yesterday was terrible - probably the worst day yet.  Today, however, is MUCH better.  I've only had a few hints of nausea today...been snacking on sourdough pretzels and gingersnaps.  Protein before bed, protein at breakfast, ginger ale, and eating constantly...whether I'm hungry or not.  That's been about it for me.  Not sure what I'll do for dinner tonight...haven't given it much thought....might take a spin through town to see what strikes my fancy.  I'm going to see if I can find some ginger candies...the ginger seems to be the only thing that settles the tummy pretty quickly and reliably.

Yay for Wednesday being nearly over!  Time to go to the gym....gonna go walk for a bit.  Have a good evening everybody!

forgot to ask...anyone know of a good source of protein (other than a spoonful of peanut butter) that would be a good before bed snack?  I've been eating hard boiled eggs at breakfast, but would like other evening snacks to try since the PB doesn't always sit very well.

VP, there's tons of options, but not that many that may be appetizing to you. Here's a link (http://www.pregnancy-calendars.net/protein.as px). Something not on that list that may be yummy..... jerky.... or maybe kashi products. The waffles are yummy and the golean cereals are good dry.

Man, I drank too much last night. I've totally lost my tolerance. When I was young JD went down so easy... now, not so much.

I have a birthday party tomorrow night and I've got to keep my alcohol and calories under control. I just have no self-control when I'm out... I must remember to treat my body like a temple!
