Anyone in their late 20s?!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm a dieting veteran.... up and down the same 20lbs since highschool! I've always lost it on Weight Watchers...but I wanted to try something new. So, here I am. I'm looking to start a group of late 20- early 30 year olds who are interested in losing weight and getting healthy. I'm 5' 9" 160lbs.  I'm looking for others that have about 20-30lbs to lose.  Hopefully there's some people out there!!

Happy New Year!

Hello Nboren!

Foxy, you make me laugh. It's funny how alcohol becomes difficult to process as you get older - I really have to avoid drinking on "school nights" because work just doesn't go as well after 2 glasses of wine.

I have not been treating my body like a temple this week.  Instead, I've been eating what I'm calling "quasi-junk food"  - whole grain pasta with a ton of cheese and salt, high-fibre muffins with butter. I'm starting to ask why not just eat the bag of chips already? I have to admit it's comfort eating - but I can't  quite put my finger on what's wrong and fix it rather than stuffing my face!

VP, hope the queasiness starts to go away soon. My main protein fixes are peanut butter and cottage cheese.  Yogurt's also good. I remember on Full House when "Aunt Becky" was pregnant she was eating beef jerky by the pound :)

Lol, Full House??? I must be in the right group. *flashback*

VG, maybe your body is just looking for something particular and hasn't found it yet (vitamins?).  Sounds like your snacks aren't too bad. It could be a cycle thing too. I'm ravenous right before ttom. It may sound wierd, but that Kombucha stuff helps quell the appetite.

Last night I was bad, but could have been worse. I won't even admit what I ate, but I at least I shared the main course with a friend.

Hope you're all having a good weekend! I'm taking an Oil-Painting-On-The-Beach class today. We're going to one of my favorite beaches and a pro painter is going to teach us how to paint the ocean-scape.  :)

Oil painting on the beach sounds amazing!! Have you painted a lot before?I guess since it's a late 20s/early 30s group, we'll all have similar TV frames of reference  :)

I think you might have a point about vitamins - I should really have a sit down and look what at what nutrients I'm getting, and not getting. Sometimes I tell myself "I'm a vegetarian, I  eat plenty of spinach" but it's really only a few pieces here and there.  I hadn't heard of Kombucha before, so I looked it up - it sounds really interesting.  I don't think I'm up for making it myself, but I'll check if my health food store has any.

I've only painted a little before. And this was hard. I almost cried! :0

But is was beautiful (the beach, not my painting)... the sun sparkles on the water...

As far as nutrients go, I agree, we all should really take a look at what we're getting and not getting. I think we get into eating habits and end up consuming a lot of the same things over and over and don't get certain things our bodies need. Like probiotics, iron, calcium, etc.

Kombucha tastes a lot like vinegar, so if you don't like vinegar don't even bother, but there's something about it... let me know if you try it!

I wonder how VP is doing......

Hi ladies!

Thanks for the link, Foxy.  I'll take a look at it when there aren't so many wandering eyes around the lab!  I've found jerkey...it was ok yesterday, but I've not tried it again today.  Some things are a moment to moment like for me!  I did pick up some protein plus power bars - very useful...portable and packed with protein and other nutritious things.

I am in total agreement with you guys - I find myself eating (well...before anyway) the same things over and over again.  It's a little better for me b/c dh tends to like different foods than I grew up with and tend to go for, so we do get some variety that way.

Foxy...I LOVE painting!  I've oil painted since I was 9 years old!  I typically paint from photographs - the light doesn't change on you once it's captured in a picture.  Real life is trickier to paint from, I think.  It's great once you get the hang of it.  I find it helps me to refocus my mind and relax.  I often will turn on the classical music and sip wine or tea while I paint.  (I've not picked up a brush since we moved from MS, b/c I have my scrapbook taking up my painting table!  DH wants a painting to go over the bed, though...so I'll have to get inspried and get that scrapbook done (it's only been 4.5 years since the wedding...sheish!) and pick a picture!)

LOL on the alcohol, too...After about 2 glasses of wine, I'm warm and sleepy.  After not drinking for 9+ months, I'm sure that will decrease to about 1/2 a glass!  I used to be able to put way more than that away in an evening!

That's kind of funny, I paint (mostly abstract with acrylics) but have hardly picked up a brush since my BF asked me to paint something specially for him.  Our house is full of started-but-not-finished art projects.  Doing an oil painting of the ocean sounds like it would make me cry too, Foxy ... although being on a beach with no ice and snow would probably make up for it!

I fell asleep reading a nutrition book last night and although I didn't get as far as writing down a meal plan, I did notice a few things that are definitely missing.  Today I've had oatmeal with dried fruit, a granola bar, cottage cheese, an orange, half an apple, and some almonds and dried apricots.  (It's just past lunchtime here. I'm so full.)  I think I'll make a big bowl of curried or spiced-up veggies for supper and that should cover most of my bases (iron, protein, calcium, most of my B-vitamins). And as a treat, I'm making a yogurt and avocado mask for my face :)

I've never actively tried to include probiotics in my diet - I always thought they were mainly of benefit to people with digestive problems. Are they essential?

No idea, vg.  I've never actively tried to include things in my diet.  I always figured I needed to exclude things!  (like too many calories or fat!)

I guess I'll find out what I'm missing when I finally get to go to the dr....they've moved my appointment and I'm not happy about it.  It'd be one thing if I worked near the dr's office, but...I'm an hour away!  It's not like I can go home and come back in the middle of the day...that's a 3 hour chunk of time plus the appointment!!!  Grrr.  So, now it looks like I might have to take a personal day...it'd be more driving than working!

Whoo Hoo!  Happy dance!  I called the dr's office back and the receptionist got my appointment rescheduled again!  I got an 8:45am appointment on Thursday!  I don't have to take a personal day!  I love it when stuff works!

Today's been a good day.  Walked for 20 minutes at the gym last night and hopefully I'll be able to go again today.  I've got enough food with me today to keep the tummy happy...it will all depend on the energy level, now!

Hope you guys are doing well!

Hi... I'm Colleen.  I am 5'1 about 128 pounds.  I am currently a gymnastics coach a little out of shape.  I have been a sports person all my life and after college lost motivation.

Last year I was down to probably 114 lbs before my wedding.  But as it goes, I slacked off a little after the wedding.  I would love to be part of this group for some good motivation.  I used this site last year and it is great to track your food calories and your calories burned.  I would like to lose around 15 pounds and then maintain in a healthy way :)

Welcome Colleen! Gymnastics coaching sounds pretty cool!  What kinds of workouts do you do?

VP, glad to hear you got a better appointment. It's soooo frustrating waiting for things like that. First thing in the morning is usually the best time to go.

Hi, Colleen.  This is a pretty awesome group...I hope you like it as much as I do!  We're all trying to keep things toned and in balance with our lives...it's not easy, but we try!

Just so you know...the dr's appointment went well.  Had to pee in a cup and give them some blood for testing.  We spent most of the time, though, talking to a nurse person about family histories and what I should and should not do/eat.  It answered lots of my questions and now we've got more decisions to make.  I go back again in about a month.

Vegitariangeek....... Yes coaching gymnastics is a blast.  I love it :)

I try and run 3 times a week.  It is a love hate relationship.  I hate running when I start, but always love how I feel after I have done it.  I try and do 2 miles each run. I have found running burns lots of calories!

I also try to incorporate some strength training, like the other days....when I am motivated haha.   Like Lunges with weights, squats, planks etc.

VP glad to join the group!!!

Friday!!! I can't wait for the weekend, this week has been exhausting. I would really like to make it to the gym at lunch today as I haven't been all week.

Does anyone have exciting plans for the weekend?

VP, the doctor's visit sounds like it was informative! Will you have to go in for monthly checkups now?

Welcome irishdunne81!  I feel just like you when I run, I HATE it when I start, but as soon as I stop I feel soooo good. I run about between 2-4 miles a couple times a week and do strength training (weights) the other days. Saturday and/or Sunday I surf and rest. :)

VG and VP, I wrote the longest message the other day and it didn't post! So frustrating!

To sum up, I started with acrylics, DH asked for a painting and I haven't done many paintings since, like u guys. ;)

VP, how awesome you got your appointment! I wonder what your HcG levels are... I took a PT this morning and it was negative, but it may be too early to tell.

VG, did you make it to the gym?? I'm going to a hilly park to run today.

Happy Sunday ladies!

Aside from a few drinks on Saturday night, I had quite a healthy weekend. Totally sugar-free - I am back on that bandwagon and feeling good! I made it to the gym on Friday and I have time to go again today.  It snowed really hard here over the weekend though, so I may be less inclined to walk places  :/

I'm so impressed with you runners. Every once in a while I get really psyched about running, do it for three days, and then give up.  And once you've stopped, it's like starting from scratch all over again. You guys sound devoted.

Hope everyone is having an OK Monday morning. Generally this would be the low point of my week but I just found out our staff meeting is cancelled which made me really happy ... yup, I take my pleasures where I can get them!

I'm with you, VG...take 'em where you can get 'em!  Today is a good day for me, too.  It's going to be long, but so far, so good...things are flowing smoothly.

Foxy...fingers crossed for you.  I have no idea what my levels are/were when I tested, but they were strong enough to make 2 poas + and 1 blood test +.  I think I'm finally leveling off or that my body is starting to get used to the different hormones....my tummy is settling down a bit, and I can eat more normally again.  The acne is still an issue...and there is nothing I can do about it!

Had a pretty good weekend...got to go to the barn and ride some on Saturday, did some light cleaning and errand running on Sunday, chatted with one of my bf's  and still had time to be a couch potato!  The gym has been lacking for me lately....and I don't plan on making it this week (considering I'm heading to Florida on Wednesday morning and I've got to pack and get a bunch of other stuff done between now and then!).  Oh well...there's always next week, right!

Have a good Monday guys!
