Anyone in their late 20s?!

Quote  |  Reply

I'm a dieting veteran.... up and down the same 20lbs since highschool! I've always lost it on Weight Watchers...but I wanted to try something new. So, here I am. I'm looking to start a group of late 20- early 30 year olds who are interested in losing weight and getting healthy. I'm 5' 9" 160lbs.  I'm looking for others that have about 20-30lbs to lose.  Hopefully there's some people out there!!

Happy New Year!

I also had some eating out this weekend, so I wasn't as good as I should've been.  And sadly, the scale shows it.

I haven't gained, but I haven't lost either.  *sigh*

Height: 5'3
Last week: 170 pounds
This week: 170 pounds
40 pounds to go

Haveyjb--Don't let it get you down too much.  If your body has become accustomed to not eating out, some of that might just be extra sodium.  Drink lots of water and eat normally for the next few days--I'm willing to bet you see a decrease!

Besides, sometimes just maintaining as opposed to gaining is a victory in itself (believe me, I've had weekends where I did a happy dance that the scale only went up by 2 lbs...).

I just try to remind myself that this is NOT a diet.  It's a lifestyle.  There are going to be victories and set backs.  I can't always be 100% good (where would the fun in that be?).  While health and weight is very important to me, so is living my life and having fun--and that means that the occasional treat is not only okay, but necessary.  Don't beat yourself up over it, really!

Thanks, runner_girl.

I try really hard not the let it bum me out, and most of the time I can let it go.  Only once in a while does it really make me nutsy Wink

Thinking about it as a lifestyle and not a diet is a great way of looking at it!  The roadblock I have there is that my fiance likes to cook (and he's Irish, so he cooks with a TON of butter), but I've gotten to the point where I can figure out how much I can have, and what I need to do to make a better choice.

Let's keep it up!!

Hi ladies!

weighed in this morning at 128. down another 1/2 lb.  i was hoping to see more of a loss, but it's better than nothing.  only down 4 lbs overall.  my head knows that's a healthy weight loss pattern, but a friend of mine came over this afternoon and she's been dieting a week less and already lost 8lbs. depressing!!

thanks for the food suggestions innocent sin.  i LOVE my red meat and veggies so i'm definitely going to try it.

i just got an email from a friend of mine who is planning a bachelorette party for a mutual friend in NYC in july.  there was mention of "strip dancing" lessons....that's an inspiration for further weight loss right there!!!

runnergirl..thanks for the reminder of this being a lifestyle change, not a diet...it helps soooo much to think of it that way.

keep on keepin' on everyone!

Congrats Missea1! You are losing and not gaining so that's great! Sure we'd love it to fall off fast but hey it's coming off.Smile

I went and worked out with my husband this mornng and I cheated and got on the scale before my friday weigh in and I am still at 197lbs. You know I was excited and have the outlook that atleast I'm maintaining and not gaining. I guess we will see how my weigh in friday goes. So far i keep telling myself that since Jan 1st I've lost 5 pounds and that's awesome to me. That's the only way I can see progress because my size 14 jeans are still snug on me.

To get to move into a 12 will be great then lower and lower. I just have wide hips from children so I'm not sure if that will ever allow me to go lower in size. Anyone else experience this? I mean we can't shrink bone to get into a smaller size.

Are yall married? If so are your spouses supportive? My parents are close to my new hubby and my mom told me the coolest thing yesterday. My hubby told her that at first he wasn't to sure I would stick with going to the gym but I've really showed determination and he is so proud of me. That was great to hear and just very encouraging.

thanks for the support, paige! my hubby is very supportive of the new eating lifestyle. he does a good portion of the grocery shopping and has switched from ground beef to turkey, buys plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, and has also gotten some of those 100 calorie packs...nice for snacking. hopefully he'll start loosing without even knowing it. he carries his weight right around his middle, not good for heart disease and he was just diagnosed with high blood pressure. thank goodness we are making this change!!
Hey all.  I haven't posted since some time last week.  My weigh-in for yesterday was 158.2, down 1.8 pounds from last Monday.

I also started my trial week at Curves.  I went yesterday and today.  You really do get out of it what you put into it.  I was red-faced and sweating, but totally feeling great.  My only problem is that I'm not really how to log thos burned calories....I think it varies person to person, and I know put in a hard work out.  I guess the exacts aren't as important as the fact that I actually made a step towards a healthier me.  I have to decide by Saturday if this is what I want to stick with, though.

Anyhow, I appreciate all of your continued support in the form of these posts.  Keep up the hard work everyone!

Thank goodness the houseguests are gone! Well there's still one left, but I wont see her until Thursday.  It's hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle when everything is a celebration. .. and boy do I like to celebrate.   ;)

This morning for breakfast I had my oatmeal with a little Kashi on top.  Hopefully that'll fuel me for my run (short but, oh so sweet).

Paige-  I haven't had kids, but I can relate to really believing that my pant size has alot to do with bone structure.  And in a way it does. Some of us are bootyless some are bootyfull.   But for sure you can get to a size 12. Patience.  I went from a 14 to a 10. 176lbs to 153 (and holding). All pant brands are not created equal, but you'll know when you've done it.  Have faith!  Also, my hubby is very supportive and puts his health in my hands and is very happy with what we've accomplished.

Congrats samiaz, megnificent, missea, runnergirl, and everyone else with losses this week.

Samiaz-  The Clean Eating Challenge is just a game where you test your willpower against yourself (or other people).  The rules are different for everyone because YOU determine what you can and can't eat so only YOU know if you've cheated. So the challenge to myself  is to not eat white bread or white pasta, no sugarfilled desserts, and portion control. I do allow myself a cheat meal a week. And everytime you "mess up" you start at day 1.  So you can say I've got 10 days of eating clean... Me personally, it's only been 11 hours.   :0    If I've fortgotten anything maybe someone else may add their two-cents.  For those who are doing it we can post our clean days with out weigh-ins.

Im 27. 5'9 and 179lb right now, still got about another 30-35lbs to go.

I was 250lbs and since August 2006 I've lost and kept off 70lbs, and on top of that I quit smoking!!!

Any group support and talking to people of the same age and the same goals sounds great to me!

HI finally found a group Im 26 turning 27 in eight weeks:S I lost about 40lbs last year and managed to gain around 20 of them back in the past four months ugh you would have thought that was mathematically impossible ugh... welll i have not been able to get back on track since then no motivation all i want to do is eat eat and EAT.... I have got to start on the 1st of FEB......HELP... I need to get back to a size eight ....

Paige -- I'm engaged, and he kind of flip-flops back and forth.  Sometimes he really makes an effort to check the labels when we are shopping, and sometimes he actually gets upset at me that I'm "obsessing" and that it doesn't matter.  We are  having other problems though, so his unsupportiveness could just be an extension of that.

maysy -- we're here for you Smile  You're gonna do great!

I'm a little late with the weigh-in this week, but here goes nothing.  After a particularly unsuccessful week (due in part by the chilling weather - it's -40 right now), and by having a series of dates this week I'm down half a pound, from 168.5 to 168.

This week, the plan is to get back to the treadmill, and back on my healthy eating plan.  I think these last 18 lbs are going to be the toughest because I haven't broken the 160 mark since high school.  At any rate, the weight is coming off faster than I could have hoped, so I'm happy!

Next month, I'm heading down to Australia for the better part of the year, so that will be the next challenge: keeping off the weight while cooking quickie meals at hostels, and eating out the rest of the time!

Thanks everyone for all your motivating comments.  This is definitely the longest I've ever stuck to a weight loss plan!

Hey Ladies! So great to hear from yall and your successes. Even if it's 1/2 a pound rememeber you are losing so be excited.

Today for me I have no clue as to what is up! I have totally bombed my eating! I've eaten 2 paks of mini muffins, 1 oz bag of ruffles potatoe chips and then a hershey milk chocolate bar!

CryAGHHHH I feel like I'm starving but here at work have nothing healthy but my salad for lunch and I feel like I'm just starving trying to make it to lunchtime. Poor planning on my part for not having fruits here but then again sometimes hell I just want some chocolate and a real chip. I'm going to work out at the gym later but that's no excuse. I bet today will hurt my weigh in for friday. Dangit!

Something though I did want to share is my size 14 jeans are getting looser. I may have to start wearing a belt because I'm having to pull them up all the time when I walk.

Haveyjb-yea my hubby is really a great support and I think it turns him on evenmore now. I can say our sexlife has increased a lot in this month.lol Maybe overtime your fiancee will be more healthy focused. It's not obsessing it's just making better choices.

Meg-Congrats on your loss and I love your myspace. Have you checked out mine?

Foxylady-Yea jeans can be so tough because in one brand you maybe able to wear a 12 then the next are made so dang small that you have to go to like a 13/15. It's pretty frustrating but I'm holding out.

Welcome Maysy and gigigalaxieSmile. Can't wait to stay in touch and hear about your success.

Today is by far my worst day I think on the bad eating. I was doing so good but hey I get to start over tomorrow and make better choices the rest of the day.

hello everyone,

thanks foxylady for the "clean eating" info. i get it, and i'm in. well, i'll just list some of the rules that i have stuck to for the past few years and RARELY deviate away from....(except for the one about juice)

i only buy wheat bread and pasta (but the white stuff when eating out).....i only drink 1% milk (haven't touch any other milk in forever)......always diet soda and not regular soda..........refuse to touch french fries ( i was a former addict to them and its what lead to be gaining about 13 pounds last summer)........recently i stopped drinking juice with artificial flavor. i drink smoothies only  (a bunch of fruits in a blender  and some water  and that's it).

new rules for me NOW are.....skinless chicken only, 8 glasses of water a day, no fried foods, no cookies ( cookies are another addiction). i'm going to try this for the month of february.

QUESTION???? do you guys weigh yourself with or without clothes???? and seeing that weight fluctuates during the day, do you use the highest or lowest number????.........i weigh with clothes, but i do use the lowest number ( morning weight)

welcome to the people who have recently joined. this is a great motivator, and this site is the only reason that i managed to stay committed to my diet...well i do my best.Innocentstill have a lot of bad habits.Undecided. i realised that in an early post, i wrote that i eat healthy 90% of the time. my hand must have slipped. did i say 90??? NOT QUITE THAT HIGH.

Thanks Paige and Foxylady :)  Paige, I haven't looked at your page yet, but I will check it out soon.  I'm glad you like my page.

I've never really heard of the clean eating thing.  I think the idea is good, but I think that for longterm it's not really realistic for myself.  I don't want to tell myself that I can never have a cookie again.  I just know I can't have 10 everyday.  I do try to stick to whole wheat/grain breads, whole wheat pasta, brown rice....I also only drink water or decaf hot tea in general.  Sometimes juice if I want it, but that's rare.  I have found that I try my best, too, to stay away from artificial sweeteners as they very likely do funky things to our bodies.  I started using agave, which is very similar to  honey.  It's sweet, so you don't need a lot of it.  It's also really tasty.  I normally use a half teaspoon to enhance the flavor of smoothies, and that's only 10 calories.  I do add this into my daily intake.

I find now that since I am eating more frequently, but smaller portions, my stomach seems to have shrunk in size, at least internally.  Tonight I went to dinner with my parents and ordered two cheese enchiladas.  Yes, I know these are not uber healthy.  I also know that they were within my calories for the day, especially since I put in a full hour at the gym today and worked my ass off.  However, I was only able to eat one.  Granted, I did have some of the baked chips, but I was very happy that I didn't feel the need to force myself to finish the meal.  One of the hardest parts about eating out is that you can't always figure out exact calories, but I try to be generous with my estimations.

hello everyone!  i'm Kathy....did you guys start weigh-ins yet??

i've been with cc since the end of 2006 and lost about 30 lbs since joining, i've been in plateau mode for the last year or so :( and i'm looking for some motivation and another kick-start to the task at hand

lin27:  u are my twin!  i'm 26 and 5'10" too!  congrats girl, i see you've dropped 7 lbs in the last 3 weeks, way to go!!!  sooooo jelous of your trip to australia

hey megnificent 1....

just to let you know, those rules are the ones i live by, not meant to encourage people to follow the same exact choices as me. i tend to take things to the extreme sometimes. either i eat it, or i don't. i'm really bad with moderation. nothing really has to be forever. trust me, i would never give up cookies forever. i love em too much... just taking a break. sometimes a break could only mean a week off or a day off from something.  what ever works for you is best for you. have a great day.

Good Morning Ladies

Well I bombed the eating yesterday but hey today is a new day and so far it's going great. My weigh in is tomorrow so we will see how that goes.

Samiaz-Just in my opinion you get a much better weight number wise if you are naked rather than have the extra weight of clothes and then the weight of shoes. I normally weigh myself in the morning at the gym while running to the shower in the locker room, I don't add anything for the towel I have wrapped around me but that's the only extra thing I have so I get a more accurate weight number wise.

Any of yall have a George Foreman grill?

I got a big one and man it's awesome. The extra grease drains off so it's not there for you to eat and then the meat is done in minutes. It's made my life so much easier and makes the meat or what you eat leaner. Then all I have to do is worry about the veggies and any other side dishes. It comes with a book that tells you how many minutes to cook the meat so you don't burn it up.lol

So for those of us that have a busy life in the evening with kids, working out and would like to eat quickly but healty try to get one. We had chicken breasts green beans and mac n cheese for the kids and it all was done in 15 mins tops.

Wishing you all a successful daySmile

Paige

Morning ladies Smile

Welcome all the new people!

I'm feeling like I did really well yesterday.  I actually came in just under my calories (1350), but I went bowling and dancing with a friend and then did some walking.  I hope that jump starts the weightloss again.

Samiaz - I usually weigh myself in the morning, naked before I hop in the shower.  I think that gives me the most accurate number (especially since I have a cheap-o scale).

Paige - I'm sorry that yesterday was hard... today is a new day, right?  Just keep working on it.  I know that when I was first trying to stick to a calorie count, it was awful.  I was hungry all the time, but I've found that being persistant (and allowing myself some slip-ups) that I'm more likely to stay within my limits.
