anyone get their period back?
stupid q i know, im just sort of freaking and i do see my gyno tomm, but im so scared that ive lost my period and chance for health for good.
has anyone had any good news in this area?
thanks
Reason: Moved from Weight Gain to Health and Support.
I got my monthly visitor back a few months ago. All is well.
What did I have to do? Gain the necessary weight recommended by my doctor and get the fats I needed in my diet recommended by my nutritionist.
Don't worry, you'll get there.
hi, so i dont see a nutritionist or anyone to recc anything. ive lost it for a while now. i eat fats and ive gained, i dont know what the recc amount of fats would be. i dont know what elsee i can do and hope its not gone forever.
thanks
I lost mine for about 15 months from being underweight... felt like I'd never have another period in my life (terrifying!). But almost as soon as I hit a BMI of 20 it came back.
oh man, im 19.8 or so, maybe when i gain a bit more, hmm. i deff freaked out this morning but im a little calmer now. ive lost mine for so long now, im sure that plays a role in it so im a bit scared for what the doctor will say.
i wonder if it can be lost for good and if ppl do become infertile??
Well, I don't know about it not ever coming bck, but people do become infertile. I think you need 30% of your calories from fats to help get your period back, but don't quote me on that.
I got my period back when I was still underweight, but I had recently changed my diet to include a lot more iron and healthy fats and more calories altogether. Fats made up about 25% of my intake. Try it (:
hmm, ok, i dont log my foods so i dont know how much fat im getting, but ok, that percentage i can aim for but umm, i guess i dont know how much fat stuff has or how to add it up, what an equivelant would be, i dunno?
iron, not sure how much of that i get but i guess dark greens, brocolli, umm, lol, ill need to look that one up!
thanks
Iron is also in grains and meat.
About the fat....Multiply your calorie intake by 0.30. Divide that number by 9. There's the amount of grams you should be consuming.
Eg.
2500 x 0.30= 750. 750/9= 83
Is that what you meant?
All oils have 14 grams of fat per tablespoon. Nuts, nuts butters, and seeds are good sources. There are countless "fun" foods you could get them from to, in limited amounts.
great! so i have an aim.
i eat PB daily, i think were having fish for dinner, i do eat a lot of prepared foods that i assume all have fat-does that count? also i eat 2% yogurt, regular cream cheese+mayo, cheese, pastrami...
so 14 grams per tbspn, ok, i hate math, alrt, thanks
so i THINK im averaging about 50 grams of fat but like not every day do i eat the same so give or take, i guess i need more bc im not at 83 grams.
I've struggled with a lack of period my entire adult life. Didn't have my first one until I was 17 and that was induced with provera. I did not have a period for 17 months and my body had it's first period on it's own no help from any drugs a week before my 21st birthday back on January 27 2008. I found out it's due to a progesterone deficiency. I make an abundance of estrogen and no progesterone. I find taking daily vitamins with folic acid and iron help out a ton!
hi, sorry KORTLY. i had my period before the ED so for me its due to being underweight and malnourished. ive been able to get my period back w the helps of drugs but only for that 1 shot and then it wouldnt return. so i dont think just taking vitamins will do it for me, unfortunately!
So...I take that you do aim for 2500.
The prepared foods do count. The 2% yogurt and full-fat things are good. I'm sure you already know this, but while you want to increase the % of dietary fats, you want to have a combination of unsaturated fats and some saturated fats. I would say to watch out for trans fat, but I don't want to to feel like you have to read labels all the time...
Fish? Salmon is a good fatty fish by the way.
Yep, it would probably help you get to that goal by drizzling olive oil on veggies, dipping bread in it (restaurants do it with some kind of seasoning mixture), using it to sautee, etc. Oh, and avocado with a salad, yum. But things like ice cream, baked goods, and fried foods can be part of a healthy diet too. It's all about balance.
hi, thanks! actually it was chilean bas-so good, but we had salmon a few nights ago too!
i dont read labels much except for the cals and dont really know about nutrition. i eat anything and am not orthorexic, just a recovering AN, yea..
so i dont cook during the week but i will start adding oil on salad at least since thats simple enough, otherwise, i eat frozen foods, lots of egg salad (w the real mayo), and sandwiches galore.
tomm i go to the gyno and i will report back-if anyone is intersted, in what he has to say.
but-let it be known to all younger undereaters- IT IS NOT WORTH IT, down the road, your future, having it jeapordized for a number on the scale, it is NOT worth it!
Some times losing too much weight can alter your hormones and a lot of people do not get their period once they gain to a healthy weight because their hormones are so messed up
I am on the pill but my period still stopped when I did not eat enough and was very under weight and it came back once I gained a little weight and ate more fats
I eat 50 gram minimum fat usually a little more, and based on the facts I have read and the recommended dietary guidelines I would make sure you never had less then 50 grams of fat a day
Most guidelines say that a healthy active women can have up to 80 grams of fat a day depending on their body size and activity level, so you have a lot of room for extra fats!
I have stopped counting calories too because I already have a good idea how to get enough and now I eat 2000 or more calories a day lightly active, my BMI is about the same as yours too.
Let us know how your appointment goes, I am interested to know about period issues because I have pretty much never had a period naturally until I went on the pill, and I had to induce mine after anorexia which SUCKS because I want to know if my body is able to have a natural period!
got back from the DOCTOR, lol, doctor knows best!
he said that i may never get my period back naturally, being 115 where i am, 120, whatever, weight wont likely change that. he said that w/ diff hormone pills i shouuld get it 4/yr and that there is surprisingly nothing wrong now harmful to my body not having my period. when i want to get pregnant, he would then give me stronger pills but that u dont need your period to be natural but that u should get it, even if its with meds, to give your uterus new lining. so i hope to start the pills this week-the drugstore didnt have them, and thats it, no weight or bmi or whatever will change what ive done but im still healthy and can still have kids!
So, good and bad news. Well, you're healthy and you can have kids, so that is very good! I guess not having to worry about a surprise ruining your favorite outfit is good too lol
Agru - I probably won’t ever get my period back naturally and I thought that this meant that I would never be able to have children ( unless I took hormones and went to a lot of trouble and put myself through an awful process)
It sounds like it is easy enough for people like us who don’t get periods naturally to still have children?
I am GLAD I know now, I do not particularly want children and would definitely not bother if I had to go through a complicated process taking hormones and stuff, BUT I wanted it to be my choice and not something my STUPID ED decided for me.
yea, its good and bad, i am healthy, can have kids, and will get my period every 4 months when i take the progestrin etc but, im sure a naturally occuring period is hmm, more healthy perhaps, i dunno. im good, i just got the pills and will start tomm morning. i always had a natural period and i know its bc of what i did to my body. at least im healthy now!
Hooray to being healthy!! :)
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
