Hi everyone,
sorry i didn't get to post on Friday, i have been really sick with some sort of bug. I did weigh on the 28th at 132. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy new year. Hopefully after the holidays are over i'll have more time to be on here.
Hmm, I swear I posted a few days ago, but my post seems to have disappeared! Christmas didn't hit me tooooo horribly (I ate horriblyk, don't get me wrong!), but I gained like 2 lbs, and I worked them off fairly quickly. But then we had another Christmas party on Saturday, sooooo, I'm not so sure I want to know the damage this time. Hopefully just some water retention that I can get rid of. I agree, after the new year, my life goes back to 'normal' and I can really get back on track. I had great results when I stayed on track.
ugh 45 minutes until I can leave work, everyone else took Personal Time (I used the rest of mine on Friday) and is gone, now it's just me and the boss... :(
didnt have time to post a quote yesturday but heres a new one.

Also I just wanted to say to everyone in general that I dont want anyone to feel bad for not posting as much as I may. I just happened to be obsessed with calorie count and this forum. Talking to everyone is really motivating me to keep going. I understand we all have lives and are busy so no worries if you forget us for a day, a week or a month. I can keep myself entertained until you come back!!
Hello fellow 20 somethings,
I'm 25, starting weight 160, currently 146.8, goal 140. I've been looking for a twin on CC but to no avail, so I'd like to join this group for moral support, etc. I did not gain any weight this holiday season YAYYYY!!!!!!!! That was my only goal for this time of year but now it's time to get back on track. I'm hoping to be at my goal by the end of March. According to this site I should be down by February 19. The site suggests I consume 1500 calories a day but my personal gola is only 1000 (that way I can go over a lil and still be good). How often does everyone weigh-in? I've heard you shouldn't weigh your self more than once a week, but I threw that idea right out of the door as soon as I purchased a scale. Now that I'm back on my strict diet I'll probably weigh0in twice a week, wednesday and saturday.
I'm hoping for great success this year for everyone, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a question for everyone. How do you find motivation to stay on track when/if your family and friends aren't as supportive as they could be?
Let me expand upon that a bit.
First family: Tonight my mom made homemade pizza. I told her it was very good, but I only wanted one piece. She went off on how I don't need to lose weight and started off about how I might develop a eating disorder. By no means do I have a disorder, I like food too much :) But then at other times, my mom points out how fat I look in clothes. So she is at the two extremes of the spectrum, and I either need a way to ignore it or to get her to understnad where I am coming from.
Second, my friends: Now, most of my friends are 'thin' or at least at a healthy weight naturally. So in return, they do not have to worry about what they eat. Also in return, they do not always remember that I am trying to lose weight, so most of the time I cannot enjoy the food with them and I feel like I am inconviencing them by being different. How do you find ways to ignore or not feel like an inconvenience to people around you? (P.S. All my friends are in their 20s, so that is why I thought I would ask you guys :) )
I hope this makes sense and thanks for any help that you can give!
Hi everyone, and Happy New Years!!! Did you all have fun over the holidays?? We ended up having people over for New Years and partied til about 7am - can't be good for the diet! So I battled stepping on that scale and won - waiting til Friday, phew. Hopefully good news.
amayou82 - congrats on maintaining through the holidays!! that's a huge accomplishment. and you're close to your goal so that's awesome :) one thing though - this site, and others, suggest that the bare minimum amount of calories you should consume per day is 1200. your body needs that much to function properly and healthy. if you stick to less than that over time it could have a reverse effect - your body realizes its not getting enough nutrition and starts storing fat rather than burning it. you just dont want your body going into starvation mode and hindering your progress...so stick to at least 1200 and you'll do great! plus they also think you should keep the deficit to 1000 or under. harder to track maybe but makes sense. good luck to you and welcome!!
invictus - welcome! whens your birthday??
vrjensen - its tougher when you dont have a support system around you but it doesn't mean you shouldn't keep trying. it's up to you and you alone to do what it takes to reach your goals, with or without the help of friends/family. make up your mind what you want to do and make sure you do it. my friends are the same...thin/healthy/and tell me i look great and dont need to lose weight. i dont live near my family so not an issue but the boyfriend is sometimes supportive but not exactly. i guess i just do my own thing...i make the food i want and if they dont want it they can get something else. pick healthy alternatives at restaurants. theres a good site that you can look up calorie content at most restaurants - very helpful!! so you can plan your meals ahead of time and still go out with friends - http://www.dietfacts.com/fastfood.asp. check it out! also, the friends are coming around now - they've started to see visual results and have even somewhat gotten a bit motivated themselves. so keep trying and dont give up!
Wow amayou - you're so close to your goal - good for you! I'm so impressed you maintained over the holidays.
I gained 1 pound. But only one, thank goodness!
vrjensen - with your friends, I wouldn't worry about being a little inconvenient. A change in food is not really all that inconvenient. Even if they can eat anything without gaining weight, maybe they'd like to try something new just because it's more nutritious - even skinny people have heart attacks and get diabetes if they're eating crap. I would just try to get away from the idea that you're inconveniencing them with your eating habits - you're probably not. Getting together with friends always involves slight compromises - someone needs a ride, the location is out of the way for someone else, someone has to leave early all the time, etc. If people want to hang out together the point is usually the company, not the menu.
Welcome to all the other newbs like myself.
vrjensen- Honestly the only thing that keeps me motivated is seeing the numbers on the scale go down, which is why I have a really strict eating regimen and somewhat strict work out schedule. I understand though, my mom cooked soooo much this holiday, but I ate what I wanted bu just way smaller portion, my plate looked more like samples of everything, except when it came to the dessert :-) (my weakness) my mom made 3 cakes and I had some of all of them but I also kept working out through the holidays. Most ppl fall off the wagon when it comes to eating but try to maintain your work out plan, it's better to keep the same weight rather than pack on the extra.
Brook- I only log about 1000, but I think actually consume about 1200, like the other day I had close to 1000 logged but then I had 2 peices of chocolate candy and I looked on the back of the box and that was 140 calories. (harder to log 2 peaices of choc or a hand full of chips or whatever)I will keep my eyes open though and make sure I keep it healthy. Thanks for the heads up.
xoutlaw- try doing some calestinics(sp) 3 sets of 10 jumping jacks, push ups, I've also heard jumping rope is pretty good.
Everyone keep up the good work, don't let a pound or 2 discourage you, just keep it up and add an extra 5 minutes to your cardio
that way you can "earn" a cheat.
I'm 23. I'm currently 160 =( and my goal is 130 (5'4). I am trying to do the South Beach diet because carbs are my big problem.
My biggest challenge is staying away from food. I really do feel comforted by food it calms me...and i crave it even when I'm not hungry. Its very hard to stay away but i know i need to change and I'm working at fixing this bad habbit.
Good luck to everyone!
vrjensen: i have similar issues with my family... except my mum's a huge health nut and has coincidentally handed me some issues along with her knowledge. the other day, i had just had a swim and then i went and met my parents at the mall. i was pretty hungry, so i grabbed a smoothie from jugo juice (a KIDS one, 160 cals)... anyway, i offered her a sip and she's like "no thanks, i don't need the calories" and sure, when i type it it doesn't sound too bad but my thoughts went right away to: neither do i, what am i doing? i don't need this smoothie. and i left it completely full on a table at the foodcourt. *sigh*
anyway... in regards to friends, eventually they get it. i've been watching what i eat since i was sixteen. they now just assume that i don't want pizza or cake. most of the time they don't even ask.
WELCOME heatherbaby55! this group is awesome! I have found it to be very motivating- especially since we're all in the same age group. Trust me, I know all about loooooving carbs- Garlic bread w/ pasta is a HUGE downfall for me. You can still enjoy foods you love- for me, I choose healthier pasta (like whole wheat) and make my own garlic bread.... this is hard sometimes, ecspecially for us busy 20 year olders... that's where lean cuisines come in for me... they're quick and easy, but also healthy...and easy to log here on CC!
fast food has been a big part of my life too, until recently. this who calorie count experience has changed me. instead of getting a burger and fries all the time, i'll opt for a salad and a small fry..... and a burger once in awhile.... I find myself not craving like I used to.
start picking healthier choices and you'll notice a change. it's SUPER DIFFICULT for us junk food junkies, but definately worth it.
Good luck and welcome to the group! ![]()
I wanted to add my new years resolution-
To run a 1/2 MARATHON in may. Two years ago I came very close (up to 9 miles) but has issues with an ED and had to stop training...
If anyone else is thinking of doing this, let me know...I need all the support I can get! (my running buddy moved away
)sorry to post twice, just wanted to add that![]()
Thanks for the support Katie! this site is awesome and even though I just started this thing yesterday every bit of food I pick up I think twice about which is a good start and about the fast food....ugh that's going to be hard. I looooove McDonalds mmm just thinking about it makes me hungry grr. but I want to make a change so I'll have to sacrifice. That's soooo cool that your doing the marathon!! I wish I could do that...however I DON'T run. I think the last time I ran was like the mile in 9th grade ha. I can jog on a treadmill a lil but that's the extent of it. Anyways it takes a lot of will power to do all that training and go through with it so congrats on that resolution and best of luck! :)
Welcome to the group Heather you already got some good advice abotu the eating now for the working out, start small 30 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical and each week add 5 minutes or even 10 if you are feeling pumped up :-). I know that helped me I started with 30 minutes and added 5 and I was like "that's not too bad" I finally got up to an hour or the elliptical and now I'm on a new machine that's kinda like a combination of a stepper and an elliptical plus I add resistance I'm only at 40 minutes on it right now but I plan on cranking it up next week to 45. Also make it a point to get in that gym atleast 3 times a week and then you can add more days as you progress. DO you have a gym membership? That's a good motivator cause I'll be darned if I'm gonna pay money every month for nothing lol. One more quick question, how much ar eyou looking to lose just the 15 you gained?
HOTPINK- I was thinking about committing to something like that every year to help keep me motivated, I'll do some more research and get back to you.
