My dr. started me on trazadone.  He told me up front that one of the side effects is weight gain.  The reason he started it is I can't sleep.  Not even taking ambien with ambien cr and xanax all together.  I suffer from severe depression and when I don't sleep I crash major.l  Don't know what to do?  Any thoughts?  I had lost 32lbs, but have put back on 7lbs..  I think that I would rather not sleep then gain the weight back.

I was put on it but not for long cause it did not help me any.I ended up being put on Rozerem. My daughter was on it for a long time and she did not lose weight until she was taking off them. She did not gain weight while taking them but she could not lose weight.

I was on Trazadone for almost 5 years. I don't think it caused me to gain weight, but I found that I actually started sleeping better when I stopped taking it.

I could be wrong but I believe that trazadone and many other medications can cause your appetite to change, not your weight (unless it's due to bloating and water retention). As long as you are eating healthy and balanced it should not make you gain weight.

I've been on it for the past year and a half (for sleep) and it has not affected me. I take 100 mg. This is a low dose that is normally used for sleep. The higher doses don't help with sleep but help with more of the depression symptoms. If you're just using it for sleep, your doctor will most likely put you on a small dose of 50-100 mg and you probably won't experience any severe side effects.

I take trazadone and many other meds. I still have severe sleep issues. I am on weight gain now but was on trazadone in the past and it did not cause it. I think with meds it is key to stay in the moment. What may give side effects to one person does not to another. Then if it does to talk to your doctor and really weigh the pros and cons.

A few years ago i was given zoloft for anxiety attacks and trazadone for insomnia caused by my thyroid.  I didn't gain any weight from taking them.  But I found that every month or so they were upping my dose because my body  got used to them and they weren't working for me.  I took myself off of them and found that I slept better.  I still get insomnia from time to time but I take melatonin when it gets bad and it seems to help.

My doctor just put me on this too. I've been taking 100-200 mgs. daily for over a month. So far, so good. I've been working out 5 days a week and watching cals diligently, and have lost a couple pounds. And the Traz is helping me sleep big time. I work in an office, and as a former construction person who always was moving or near the sun, I think the office is unnatural and all the sitting and no sun and stagnant air makes you fat and wreaks havoc with your sleep patterns. Insomnia was always screwing with my daily life....no sleep, and I eat worse, and can't exercise.

But Traz, good diet, good sleep, yoga and exercise, and no booze is helping tremendously. Just having some semblance of a normal sleeping person's life is a godsend.

Never worked for me, just made me really drowsy in the morning.

I tried have severe depression as well, and a while back while I was in the hospital I had insomnia.  I tried ambien (made me loopy haha), lunesta etc and trazadone.  This is kind of embarassing, but I guess i was really sensitive to it because it knocked me out in like 10 minutes and I slept really late and wet my bed because I was so fast asleep!

Sorry this doesn't really answer your question.  But I didn't gain any weight on it.  I think it's a really individual thing.
