Hi--I'm new! I've seen quite a few threads on running, so I know there are some runners out there. Is anyone training for a fall marathon? How's it going so far? What training plans are you using?
I'm training for my first marathon--the Marine Corps Marathon on October 26! I've been running for quite awhile, but it wasn't until last year that I began running road races. I ran 3 half marathons last year and at the beginning of this year, I decided to tackle a full marathon. I'm using Hal Higdon's (sp?) Intermediate II program, and I'm about 8 weeks into training. I have a 17 miler tomorrow, which will be a distance PR for me!

Hi--I'm currently training for the Chicago Marathon on October 12, so I have about 8 weeks remaining in my training (actually, it's 5 weeks of training and three weeks of tapering). This is my second marathon (my first marathon was this past May), even though I'm following my 3rd marathon training program (more on that below). As far as how the training is going, I couldn't be more pleased with my progress so far. Aside from the typical soreness that comes afer a tough workout, training has gone really well, and I'm hoping for a strong performance this fall.
As I mentioned above, this is the third time I'm following a marathon training plan. Last summer, I used Higdon's novice marathon training plan, even though I wasn't training for one (I wanted to attempt a training plan to see if I could handle the rigors of marathon training). I followed that in early 2008 for my first marathon with the Pfitzinger/Douglas 12 week program that peaked at 55 mpw (from the book Advanced Marathoning). This time around, I'm using Pfitzinger/Douglas again, but following an 18 week plan that peaks at 70 mpw. It has its tough parts, especially when I'm scheduled to do tempo runs two days before a my 20 mile long run, or when I do a midweek run of 11-15 miles before my weekend long run of 17+ miles, but as I've already mentioned, I have been pleased with the progress.
Good luck with your 17 miler, and good luck with MCM!
