Has anyone tried the 18in4 diet?

Quote  |  Reply

This diet is $27 for the info and I got it. But has anyone else tried it? Supposedly you lose 18+ lbs in 4 days. It looks solid as far as it is not starving you. Anyone?

Oh come on now, you can't be serious!  I have red flags going off all over the place.  The only way I would know to lose 18 lbs that quickly would be to amputate a limb!  I think you just bought into someone's get rich scheme.  Sorry.  Two thumbs down from me.

I saw this diet here on CC and I was wondering why CC would want to advertise such an add, since it can only be against all that is spoken about and taught here... I find that putting adds like that on this website is of the worst taste...

Thankfully I have the money to waste. LOL!!! I'm going to give it a try and see... what could happen? I don't lose weight? And if I do lose any weight I'll be a happy camper. I've hit a plateau that even Jillian Michaels hasn't been able to help ( I do 30 day shred, highy recommend it...kicks my butt...)and I do 1250 cals a day so I'm gonna try it and report back. Nothing to lose but a measly $27 ! Right?

LMFAO.

Well gee if this miracle diet exists I just can't believe there are still fat people! It's all so simple!

I have seen this question before, and the site admins have said that they try to weed out all the bad ads - but they are content-based and since most of the site is about weight loss and eating habits, the weight loss ads (and there are a lot of them) all come up, including the lose-weight-fast scams.  They said they try to block as many of them as possible, but there are so many that it's overwhelming.  There's not much you can do but ignore them.

In short, the diet won't work.  Losing any more than a portion of a pound each day, unless you're very heavy to begin with, is very unhealthy and you shouldn't do it.  Losing 18 lbs in 4 days is completely impossible without liposuction.

I highly doubt you will see the results you are looking for with this 'diet'.

It's also not about whether or not you have money to waste. Seriously? It is about common sense. Do you really believe that ANY diet that promises an 18+ lbs loss in just 4 days is worth it? and by 'worth it' I am not referring to monetary value but your health.

In my humble opinion, you will see better results by avoiding all the gimmicks and instead continue working out and eating well. I also suggest increasing your calories to more than 1250cal per day - that is simply too low and may very well the reason behind your plateau.

If you 'get it', good for you.. if you don't, then lets hope you DO find the magic diet that makes all the weight worries go away.

Good luck.

i agree with avila.  just because you have money, you spend it on stupid stuff?   I really hope you lose the weight you want, but i've done a million commercial diets (none that promised 18ls in  4 days and 1.)  they all really come down to either eating less or more healthy which you can do without the gimmick attatched and 2.) they are almost impossible to stick to.    i also agree with upping the calories.

thanks for the info Zephyron...

An Unofficial Calorie Count Guide to a Fad-Free 2009

Besides that Calorie Count is all about sustainable and healthy weight loss.

Losing 18lbs in 4 days is not only unhealthy but is not part of our mission. Plus this diet basically is a starvation diet. And on top of that the guy who invented it seems like a scammer to me.

While you might end up losing pounds on this diet it is likely to be predominantly water weight and once you go back to normal eating you will gain it back. This cycle of weight loss-weight gain can lead to reduced self-esteem and a lifetime of yo-yo dieting .... not a good thing.

We strongly suggest you do not do this diet and if you do we ask that you don't promote it on the forums.

We understand that weight loss does not always come easy. But of all the diets and gimmicks I have ever tried none has worked as good old life-changing calorie counting using the Tools and Advice from this website.

You only have one body, please take care of it.

Are you currently still eating only 1250 calories a day?  If so, then that is probably why you are on a plateau.  Judging by what information you have provided, you are not eating enough.  1200 calories is the bare minimum for an adult female.  Most of us (especially if we have some weight to lose) actually need more than that.  If we under-eat too severely for an extended period of time, the body starts to feel deprived and under-fed.  It will react by temporarily slowing the metabolism and conserving energy.  This results in a plateau.

have you used the tools here on calorie count to see how many calories you should be eating?  Try the tools and see what they say.  I'm betting that you need to eat more.  I know it sounds silly (the whole eat more to lose more) but it works.  When the body stops feeling under-fed, you will start to lose again.  You don't need to resort to fad diets to do it.

Totally agree with peaches.  You are down 50lbs!!  Which is amazing.  Instead of taking some b.s. pill that could hurt your chances of loosing more (stuff that screws with your metabolism can mess you up and make you gain) try changing some things up.  Zig zag your calories, or change the types of food you are eating, or the type of exercise you are doing.

Gee... I have this lovely college education (and am NOT devoid of common sense) and I must be just so incredibly stupid based on the posts. Wow, I understand that all of you think it is a dumb idea. I've got that. Mind not trying to bash my head in, please?

I do appreciate the advice on zigzagging the cals and changing up the exercise. I was just so frustrated by the plateau... that I got sucked in by an ad that CERTAINLY SEEMED TO BE PROMOTED BY CC!!!!!! Duh, yell at me for "promoting it"... ( I thought all I did was ask a question...)and I got it on YOUR site!!! How twisted is that?

Anyway, Wish I hadn't posted ever...Sealed

Thanks for the good advice from some... and others... I just won't comment ...

Sounds like the 27 in 1 diet.  $27 in 1 easy payment for whoever's selling that diet.

Caloriecount is part of about.com and doesn't pick and choose its advertisers.  Marketers sell ad space on the various sites at about.com and market researchers choose who might be the most likely target audience for whatever product the advertiser is selling.  It's commercial airtime, basically.

You're not devoid of common sense, you just are a likely target.  Don't fall in.

I wasn't trying to bash your head in. I am sorry you thought that. I also was not calling you stupid. You said at the beginning of the post you thought it was sound diet based on the amount of food you consume, I wanted to ensure you and anyone else who might read this knows that it is not sound. It really sounds like a scam to me.

As far as Calorie Count promoting it, well Calorie Count isn't per se but I agree with you that it does appear to be one of the ads that pops up.

Calorie count does not have control over what ads go up on this site.  Neither does About.com. The ads are bundled and bring in revenue to keep the site free.  You actually have more power than the website does because you can install an add blocker on your PC.

If there is a specific ad you object to - do a screen print if possible.  Use the contact link at the bottom of every page to report it.  State the times you see the ad and as much information as you can gather about it.  The staff will do their best to block it.  In my experience, they get blocked and then pop up again after a while.

Sorry for the confusion and I am sorry and understand you are frustrated, but as a moderator I have to make the posting guidelines of the site clear while trying to help as much as I can.

If you need help with the Tools or Advice on the site or anything else in zigzagging etc, I can 100% try my best to help you. Just PM me if you like.

I'd like to add that you have more power over the ads on this site than you may realise, beyond the capability of print-screening any seriously offending adverts you may come across.

The words CC's posters use drive the ad content of this site. Talk less about 'diets'. Talk less about hating your body. Talk less about weight. Do that, and you get fewer ads about fad diets and scams that take advantage of people and their wallets.

Talk more about healthy foods. Talk more about exercise that you enjoy doing. Talk more about aspects of improving your overall health and well being, and you'll get more ads targeted at these needs.

While, ultimately, it isn't up to us to tell you want to say, be aware that what you and CC's users generally say here is what's driving the ad content.

CC does not choose the ads that appear here.  They are generated by an ad service that uses keywords to select ads.  Ads are what generates the money that keeps this site free.

Also, complaining about an ad on a forum is useless.  If you really want to do something, use the contact link at the bottom of the page to report the offensive ad.  Give information about where and when the ad appears, and as much detail as you can.  If you do a screen print of the ad, that would be a helpful piece of information.

Lalabanana is right - we drive those ads with our discussions.

Another suggestion - get an ad blocking program.  Or, do as I do and ignore the ads.  You can only be exploited if you allow yourself to be.  I think what people are trying to tell you is that you were innocently sucked into a scam at a weak moment.  If it sounds too good to be true, then it's not.

Are you after WEIGHT loss or FAT loss?  It is impossible to lose 18lbs of fat in 4 days without surgery.  You don't even need a college education to do the simple math Wink:

3500 calories in 1 lb of fat, so

3500 * 18 = 63,000 calorie deficit

63,000 / 4 = 15,750

So, you would have to burn 15,750 calories MORE per day than you take in to lose 18 lbs of fat in 4 days (actually I think there is a limit to how much fat your body can actually burn in one day no matter how much of a deficit you have, but I don't know the nubmer).

Now, to lose 18 lbs of water weight in 4 days, coupled with modest loss of lean tissue (muscle), now that is certainly possible and certainly something that you do not want to do.

There's no possible way to lose 18lbs of FAT in four days. And fat loss is what you are going for, right? Not muscle loss or water loss. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I'm guessing you didn't put on the weight in just a week or two, so it will take time to get it off.

I can guarantee you that if you do manage to lose anywhere close to that number in 4 days, you will put it right back on and then some. That's not to say you're weak-willed or not determined, it's just common sense.

Lala makes a good point that if we want different ads, we need to talk more about being healthy and less about lose-weight-quick schemes and how fat we are.

As said before Ads are shown based on keywords on the page. CC (or about.com) can't filter all the bad ads because there are far too many to keep track of. Just ignore them. It is the very reason why I didn't activate the Google Ads on my blog because I didn't want Ads coming up that I didn't agree with.

Looks like the OP has hit a plateau and therefore needs to do something about it. So lets stop attacking her for the choice she has made to purchase a diet plan which we know is not healthy even if it works. So instead lets provide solutions that have worked for us.

It seems that amybeth34 is not having enough calories, especially since she is saying that she does the 30 day shred. 1250 calories would be a minimum for someone who is sedentary. Therefore please go and recalculate your daily calorie needs. The tool "calorie target" will help you. If you want a different calculator try: http://www.phord.com/cc/

Your body is resisting any weightloss because it is not getting enough nutrition.

As for fad diets, the old adage is true: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!"
