Has anyone ever tried this?

Quote  |  Reply

I have a friend who said that when she gets on the treadmill, she wraps her waist up in saran wrap and sometimes puts olive oil on her stomach and legs to sweat alot. Has anyone ever tried this and gotten better results? Do you think it would help with some skin sag along the way (fat in the abdomen/legs)?

Hmm. Call me pretentious, but I care a little bit too much about what others think to let myself look that stupid at the gym...

Na, she has her own treadmill. I never thought of that though, that would be funny trying to walk in a gym with that. Although body builders are known for doing this she said. People get body wraps, they put something on you, then they wrap you in basically saran wrap and this is suppose to be for skin/weight loss. People say it works wonders for them. I may give it a try. When your in the weight loss battle, anything may be worth the test. I lost 78 pounds thus far. Down to 158.

It's just water weight, though I know that seeing any weight drop is highly motivating.  I'd see it as a motivational tool more than an actual weight-loss tool.  Don't get too dehydrated!!!

Sweating that much just dehydrates your body. That's why she "loses weight". It's really just losing water.

Yeah, by sweating you're losing water weight, and not really any fat. But like one of the posters said, seeing your weight drop on the scale is always motivating.

But if you have a glass of water, I'm sure you'll gain back the "weight".

It's just as luhluhlovesongs said. All she is doing is losing water weight (which will get her dehydrated. She may lose inches but as soon as she drinks something it will come right back.

This is the problem many people make. They think the more they sweat, the more calories or fat they burn & that's not true.

For example, there is a rare condition where some people do not have the ablility to sweat. Does that mean they can never lose weight? No! They simple don't sweat. What matter is your heartbeat rate.

All your friend is doing is wasting saran wrap & olive oil! lol
Instead of doing that, she should be checking her pulse.

Thank you for the input. I guess it won't be worth it. I agree with the "heartrate" but also without sweating, the pulling of the muscles; such as in strength training and weight lifting is what I have been doing alot of also. Stomach looks like a deflated baloon with gel inside, but I will keep working hard.  Was just hoping for an extra boost.

I used to wrap my belly when I went hiking..in the long run I did lose inches faster than when I didn't but you must make sure to drink LOTS of water!!!

And I think I look funny when I work out - your friend probably looks ridiculous!!!!! That's such a waist of effort because the weight you loose from doing that is purely water weight and the second you drink some... well yea, it all comes back!

Wal-Mart sells these belts you can wrap around your stomach while you exercise. Not very noticeable and they work. They also have pants for your thighs and such that help that area out. I haven't tried them but two of my friends have and love them too. Probably would work better then saran wrap and oil. That sounds gross and messy

agreed!  I have two of these abdominal wrap things and I love the sweating and the support they offer...Also if you feel bloated at all it makes it feel a lot better to have it suck you in for a run>

This makes me laugh because the day before my high school prom I wrapped my belly in saran wrap and wore it all day and night hoping it would make my stomach flatter for the big night.  It didn't, and instead I just got very little sleep because the saran wrap was so uncomfortable.  haha how young and silly I was.

That hit the nail on the head!

Bodybuilders are often the worst bunch of people to offer advice!

Remember this might work for Bodybuilders, because they have incredibly low bodyfat just before competition and they dehydrate to get rid of that last layer between the skin and muscle.

Like others had said it's just water weight you'd lose. Nothing more, nothing less.

Olive oil is expensive, and I'm sure it wouldn't "work" any "better" than a dollar bottle of baby oil from the drugstore. Save the good food for eating.

Ive actually tried this, and im hear to say it actually works. My friend started doing this, along with regular work out routines and a stable diet, and she lost 45 pounds! it made her sweat 10 times more then work outs alone.

it works, for all the people that say it doesnt, you must not have tried it.

id say its worth a try!

Correlation doesn't imply causation. If I start using a brush instead of a comb to get the tangles out of my hair, and over the next few months I lose 45 pounds, it doesn't mean other people should brush their hair to lose weight. And a good part of that "sweat" was probably grease, the thought of which is making me sick. I cringe for all the carefully and lovingly pressed olive oil that's going to waste.

^ This.

Call me Captain Obvious, but I'm hazarding a guess that the regular work out routines and stable diet may have had a little something to do with your friend's magical 45 lb weight loss.

people quit given me ****, its my opinion.

deal with it

They're just debating it, calm down.
