Anyone tried the "ShamWow"?

Quote  |  Reply

I was thinking about ordering one, but wanted to see what people thought of them first.  I want to use it to dry my hair.  It looks so amazing, and if it can really soak up that much moisture at once, I'm hoping that it can dry my hair after I get out of the shower and cut my blowdrying time down.  Any thoughts?

That's a good idea!  I'm curious now too.

Did you look for reviews online?  Check Youtube for consumer demos.  A lot of times news stations do them.  Here's one from my local news it has a video included.

i don't care how good it is, i would never, ever buy one.

dude on the infomercials makes me as angry as the oxyclean guy.

"it's made in germany...you know the germans make good stuff".

I tried a similar product (bought at the grocery store).  Its pretty OK.  I used mine as a towel when we went to a water park.

There is an odd odor though because it is really just rayon fiber.  But it does not retain odors from clean up jobs.  Like dog barf and pee.  With 3 dogs I know this to be true.

Hm.  Don't like the Germans much, do we?  :D

Hey, I'm German by ancestry (and due to the lack of bilingual education, my family no longer speaks German)...I must make good stuff!

not what i meant dr, and you know it.  :)

i just find it entertaining that they use that as a marketing tool...

lmao I remember the first time I saw the infomercial and heard that german line in there.  I laughed so hard!  It seemed like the most random thing to throw in an infomercial.

We used to own a full-service car wash and we used shammies all the time.  They're awesome!  I doubt this particular one is any different.

i am mezmerized by it and totally want one, regardless of annoyin guy on the commercial lol

LOL!   I'll drink to that!  I hate that guy!  My hubby goes ballistic..glad for the mute button!

I received one as a gift. The big orange one and the blue kitchen one. So far, I've only tried the blue one and it didn't work.  I'll try that orange one this weekend when I wash my car and see how it does but I don't have much faith.

Don't have one but after seeing it at the state fair last fall, my boyfriend is dying to get one. Not to dry his hair :) But for washing the car and stuff like that.... if he gets one soon I'll let you know how he likes it!

Thanks guys, keep me updated!

I'll let everyone know how it goes if I decide to pick one up over the weekend.  Sounds like a regular shammy might work just as well, so I'll try that first.

Dont order it off of tv, go to a Target store & buy it there.  That's where I work, so I know they have it there.  I dont know if it works or not, but I DO know that the Smooth Away works.  I bought one and it works like a charm.

I'm always suspicious of tv products but those green bags for keeping veggies fresh WORK beyond my wildest dreams. We had a head of lettus for over 3 weeks and it was crispy the whole time. The shamwows do look cool though.

My roommate's mother bought us a pack (orange and blue) a few months ago because we thought the commercial was hilarious. They don't work, at all. They simply push around liquid, and you can't even dry your hands with them. They also have an odd smell and texture to them.

I won't buy the Sham-wow because of the annoying commercial.  I use Micro-fiber towels.  You can get them at Walmart (where they sell car wash things) for around 5 bucks for 4.  I've also bought them at Grocery Outlet for the same price.  I use them on my hair.  They are super absorbant and don't smell either.

The funny thing about shammies is that you can't use them dry.  They need to be wet to begin with.  AND, if you dry them in the dryer, they get ruined.

I've never tried using them to dry my hands or hair, but I've used them many times to dry cars and as long as they're damp to start with, they're great.

Again, never tried the sham-wow, but it looks like a normal shammy to me.

My dad is a salesman and this is one of the products he's sold in the past (well not the 'Shamwow' but basically the same thing). They do work well at absorbing liquids, and as kukua said they must be a bit damp already to work properly. Also used 'shammies' when I worked for a dog groomer, they really took a lot of the water out of the fur before we put the dryer on them.

Great info, thanks!  I've wondered about the green bags too...I'll be picking some up asap.

My bf and I always laugh at the commercial....they admit right in the name of the product that it's a total sham. Wow!
