Has anyone tried taking CLAs or bitter orange?

CLAs (Conjugated linoleic acid) have been shown to have a little benefit for weight loss, although it's too soon for long-term human studies. I don't eat meat so was thinking I could perhaps try buying some, but I'm not sure if it's worth the cost. Bitter orange contains synephrine a drug similar to ephedrine, acting as a stimulant, and may have some of the same health-related problems as ephedrine but is not banned.

I'm hesitant to try any supplements (unlike my bf, who supplements EVERYTHING rather than just balancing his diet, which I suspect is unhealthy as well as expensive). All the same, I've been having no luck losing weight through diet and exercise and wanted to see if anyone takes anything that isn't a gimmick or a caffeine pill.

My brother didn't get anything out of it though, so I think it's very dependent on your individual metabolism.
