Anyone ever try Geocaching??

Quote  |  Reply

My spin instructor just told me about this! www.geocaching.com

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

My w/o partner and I LOVE trail running and hiking. This sounds like so much fun. Anyone ever try it?

I never had but some friends do and they LOVE it!

No.

I had never heard of it until a few weeks ago...I was talking with a woman I had just met and when I told her where I lived, she said that she knows my area well because she's hiked all over it, searching for a cache that has been in hiding for awhile.

She said she loves it, goes out on weekends with her hub and grown kids searching for caches.

Never  have, never will.

My husband and I just started geocaching a few months ago! We're up to about 20 finds now. It's a really fun activity!

Thats cool! Do you have to leave something when you find something? Do you think it's a good way to get a workout or more a brain workout? I love hiking, but I have never used a GPS. Does it take alot of prep-time outside of the actual hunting on foot?

Sorry for the delayed reply. Typically if you take something from a cache, you're supposed to leave something, but it's totally okay to just find the cache, sign the log book, and not take or leave anything. I think it's defintely a good way to get a workout if it involves any sort of hiking, and it really doesn't take a lot of prep time. Just go to geocaching.com find out if there are any caches hidden in your area.

my nieces showed me. they think its the coolest thing ever but they are home-schooled and dont get out much. great activity for kids who like to hike. i love to hike but do not see the fascination. maybe because i use GPS data everyday at work. meh.
