Has anyone here had a tummy tuck? What can you tell me about it?

I'm considering it - someone has just offered to get me one and I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons - what's the procedure like? What do you think it did to your self esteem? Did it make your body look awesome? It just seems like no matter what I do I can't reduce my stomach!

Some one offered me one i sure wouldnt be considering it itd be done.

honestly the tummy tuck should only be done if you have extra skin there and have no other options. I do not think a tummy tuck will help make you body look awsome only look slimmer you will still need to work out and eat right. Im sure it will boost your self esteem though because it will give your tummy the flat appearance. If you do have a decent amount of fat in that area they would probably do lipo along with the tuck. Maybe I cant be sure though. Your answers would be best answered by the doctor that would be doing the procedure.

A tummy tuck is, like gem86 said, generally done if you have an extra "flap" of skin on your stomach. It is not something to consider just to get a flat stomach! Not to mention that it is major surgery that you will have to be under general anesthesia for, and you will have a long scar at about bikini level going across the lower part of your stomach. There is also the long, painful recovery to factor in. I've heard of women having it done on the "apron" they have after a pregnancy, and it sounds just awful!

You could have lipo done, but there is always the risk of gaining weight again and having it come back unevenly. Are you at your goal weight? If not, stomach fat can sometimes be the last to go.

I'm near my goal weight - only 10 pounds away but can't seem to lose it no matter what I do! I've been at my goal weight before and I still had an equally troublesome stomach area

I had a tummy tuck and I would do it again in a heart beat. I had an awesome doctor and I can honestly say no pain. I also had a breast reduction. My insurance covered the breast reduction so the tummy tuck was a no brainier because I got it for afraction of the cost. I only had to pay for the actual procedure. The hospital stay and pain medicine was covered for the breast reduction.

The reason I decided to get the tummy tuck is because I am not an elastic person I worked out and worked out and my lower stomach stayed the same. Over the course of several months. I had lost 6 inches off of my bust, 7 off my mid section but only 1 in off my lower stomach. My doctor told me I would always have that sagging skin, it was from being overweight and my back to back pregnancies. I did it because i was working too hard and I deserved the results the Tummy Tuck was going to give me.

My self esteem of course increased but it was alot of me that changed during my weight loss process. I looked and felt fit, who wouldn't feel good about that. I had men looking at me all the time, for so long they looked through me. So there comes a point when you have to do a reality check I know where I have been and I don't want to go back. If you don't stay healthy the weight will come back if you have lipo or a tummy tuck.

It took over 6 months to see the full result. I have a scar from hip to hip, but I am not a model and i never will be so it dosen't bother me. Other people may have a hard time dealing with the scar. It will not make your body look awesome unless you have already worked out the other areas. You have to way the pros and cons. I told my doctor up front that if things were going bad during the surgery to get me out of there I would rather be fat than dead and I have small children to think about. Some people take forever to heal but I think because I was really active before the surgery and eating healthly my recovery was very quick.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I am having a tummy tuck this saturday!

I have lost over 130 pounds through diet and exercise and have been left with a lot of loose skin on my stomach and have the 'apron' effect. No amount of exercise will reduce or tighten that.

I have waited a long time for this, and have chosen a good surgeon and hospital. I absolutely cannot wait!

If you want you can read my personal blog through the next few weeks, as I will be posting updates explaining how the procedure went/pain/recovery/results etc...
