I am wondering about the ease of using something like Slimfast (bars and drinks) for breakfast and snacks.
I want to learn to eat real food, but the ease of these types of diet foods is appealling too and something that would be a whiz to log down.
Is there something else out there that you swear by.. particularly for snacks when you've had all the fruit you can stand? Hugs, Jade

I sometimes use slim fast when I want some extra nutrients and I have a few extra calories to meet my goal for the day and I want to get them in without stuffing myself... but usually I try to get whole grain carbs and as much protein as I can to fill up my day (keeping fat within a good range with things like trail mixes).
I don't know does that help any? What is your goal here really?

I guess I'm just not looking forward to logging every little thing down. I keep track in my head all day long based on labels and I have a number that changes the next time I eat something.
That, and I want everything as easy as can be since I'm starting over again. This is about my 3rd time on this site and it feels daunting to me to have to log everything. I would rather just keep it in my head. Right now, I don't even own a scale and can't keep track of my progress with the weight chart either. I am relying on how my clothes feel.
I think that "diet foods" can be a good alternative when watching your weight but I also have avoided them because I want to learn how to eat "real food".. which is why I've never joined JC or others that want you to eat their food.
I'm just looking for simplicity because the more things I have to remember to do, the likelihood they will get dropped. Anybody else relate to this? Jade

i use these bars here it is great to keep me going
I love to grab slimfast or southbeach bars when I'm on the go or don't have time. GoLean makes good ones too.
I grab (this is going to sound silly) Gerber's FingerFoods fruit and veggie puffs. You can find it in the baby aisle. The banana, cherry, and sweet potato totally rock. I'd stear clear of the sweet corn.
I also like Lean Pockets. They are a quick, all inclusive lunch. They now make them with whole wheat crusts.
Yogurt and fruit is also another good standby that I like to utilize.
If you're looking for a granola-ish type of bar, try Kashi GoLean! It's awesome!
Also - try the 100 calorie snack packs. They're easy and proportioned. (you can crumble the graham cracker ones on top of frozen cool-whip free for a quick little dessert to kick that sweet tooth, and it won't cost you very many calories!)
www.hungry-girl.com is an excellent resource for "tips and tricks for hungry chicks!"
Good luck! Stick with it!

I drink a SlimFast Optima shake for breakfast every morning and it really fills me up and gives me energy to go until lunchtime.
Also, the South Beach Diet bars are great for breakfast or lunch. When I'm too busy to take a real lunch break, I eat one of these bars and they completely satiate my hunger. And they taste great, too!

Awesome everyone, thanks! I will be spending a lot of time on here reading and finding out all your recommendations! I did great yesterday and am very motivated today, I sure hope I've turned that corner of obliviousness.

I loovvee Slimfast products. I don't follow the plan on the website, but I sometimes have a shake or bar for breakfast. Or maybe a snackbar during class. They say its bad cause you should eat real food, but I do eat real food. I don't depend on them, theyre just easy, tasty, and nutritious. I can go a week without any slimfast and not gain weight, cause I don't use it as a diet. More like a suppliment.
I love slimfast! I get the generic Wal Mart version, though :)
It has tons of vitamins and it makes a great meal replacment if you are in a hurry or on the road. I love them for breakfast or a snack.

I love Slimfast.
Sometimes I have trouble eating meals, I am a very picky eater and sometimes I just don't feel like eating a big dinner/breakfast. So I have my Slimfast (with Skim Milk) and I add in about a 1/4 cup of berries, (usually raspberries). It always fills me up and never makes me sick. I am trying their snackbars too right now, they're delicous aswell. I think they're great products and as long as they are a healthy addition to a well rounded diet I would absoloutly recommend them.

Your body doesn't get the benefit of burning calories from slimfast because its not a solid food. Plus the vitamins are diluted from its extended shelf life. It's also mostly sugar. You'd be better off eating real food. You could snack on a couple of 90cal granola bars and be way better off. The slimfast plan is just another calorie cutting idea, but as the addage goes.. You are what you eat. The more processed something is, the less your body has to work to burn it. Because of all the sugar, you get a bad insulin spike on it, so you store the sugar calories as fat.
In response to antonio...
Calories are calories. Calories that come from sugar are not going to be stored as fat just because they are sugar calories. If you are burning more calories than you are eating than they will not be stored as fat.
Back on topic - I love slimfast. I have trouble eating in the morning; it makes me sick, but I can drink a slimfast and be fine. It gives me the energy I need in the morning and keeps me full until lunch.

The off brand from Wal-mart is cheaper and taste better IMHO. I use this when I'm on the run and don't want to stop for lunch!

Nutribar has a less sugar and Carb friendly one, in vanilla and Chocolate......YUM YUM..I put in a litre of water, and some splenda and a scoop of the powder and add a scoop of bran to mine....YUMMMMY....! Cuts the calories and still taste great. I did it cause 250 ml wasnt enough for me!
Calories are not calories. Some have a high thermic affect and others don't, and liquids don't at all.
I like the bars..but the shakes...I find that everytime I drink them, that I end up eating something as well. They just don't fill me, and I'm hungry pretty soon after. The bars are great (cookie dough are my fav!) especially when you're craving sweet.
I love Slim Fast Low Carb PB Granola Bars, but I have a hard time finding them?
