I'm considering purchasing the P90X program and was wondering if anyone had anything good, bad or indifferent comments about it. Is it worth the cost? Are the customer success stories for real? Or too good to be true?!
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss forum to Fitness forum
I've seen the program in use and have to say it's nothing special. Personally I wouldn't pay $120 for a program you could get off of a decent fitness site.
The biggest problem I have with it is the fact the program claims you will improve definition, muscle shape, etc. with almost entirely body-weight movement. The website makes some fairly simple routines seem absolutely incredible. It is essentially several workout routines thrown together into one program, put in attractive boxes, and sold at a fairly expensive price.
It's not worth it, in my opinion.
Why not just download it off the internet for free on a bit torrent site
Why not record the entire P90X commercial with your DVR and do the individual exercises shown in it. You will discover there is nothing in it that is different from what you can get from any decent fitness site like Bodybuilding.com or Testosterone Nation. By the way you can get the same workout using FitTV. Mix up Yoga with Gilad's body in motion and Cathe's and Sharon Manns' workouts and voila you have the same muscle confusion he was talking about in the commercial. It is an exaggeration of the greatest degree that anybody or especially a fat person will suddenly have the physique shown in the commercial in 90 days. Take every and I mean every commercial you see with a grain of salt. They are all designed to make money. I agree with imccarthy that "it's not worth it'.
Hey I just wanted to say I used the program from start to finish and I saw an incredible body transformation. I don't have time to put together a program for myself (busy mom of two), so P90X took the guesswork out of cutting and pasting a program. I would say it was worth every penny and I am looking forward to my next round on June 9th
I couldn't agree more...there are a lot of gimmicks out there,. and P90X is not one of them...great program...It helped me get the 8 pack of abs that I wanted...very tough workouts too...
Hi there, I'm a 5'2 108lb female in week 8 of the program. Can't say that I have a 8 pack yet, but I am at least three times stronger than I was when I started and have lost a couple inches from my hips and waist. I agree that a knowledgeble person could put together a similar program and not have to pay $120...but I am not that person. This comes with a guide that explains all the moves as well as a very simple and reasonable eating guide. If you are anything like me and just don't have the knowledge or the time to put your own program together, I recommend getting p90x.
thank you for all the comments, everyone was helpful.
I'm a doctor and have little time to workout. Are the workouts an hour or less? Cause that's all the time I have usually. And as for nutrition, mine is horrible, at least 3 days a week I don't get time to eat lunch. Are the eating guidelines hardcore?
Most of the workouts are right at one hour, though the yoga routine is an hour and a half. The eating guidelines are easy to follow, it gives you recipes and shopping lists and even a list of stuff you can get from fast food joints. It's pretty much adding a lot of protein and cutting out refined carbs, sweets, extra sugar, that kind of thing.
I think you will be impressed with how strong you become...simply because they throw in some workouts that I have never even seen before, and it's new to your muscles. The diet is very simple, and even tells you what fast foods you can and cannot eat.
I downloaded it off a .torrent site and I love it. I have modified a lot of the workouts to suit my goals more appropriately, but I really enjoy it. The Plyometrics X video is tough... but as Tony Horton says "I hate it... but I love it." Ab Ripper X, Kenpo X, Yoga X, Core Synergistics, and Plyometrics X are very good in my opinion. I do my own weightlifting regimen, however.
Oh and the X Stretch video is amazing. It is like having your own personal massage therapist.
