Is anyone using activity to manage occasional overeating?
Up until now, I've been averaging 1600-1700 cals a week. Lately, it's creeping up to 1800. Today, my total was just over 2000 cals, so I took a brisk one- hour walk carrying 2 8-pound weights.
Is this a fair exchange? Does this put me back at "1700" since it was completely in addition to my usual exercise?
Is this a dumb question? Lol.
yea that's fine. that's what a lot of people do including myself. Usually its the day after or something though because you should be eating after any workout. I do this when I find myself eating too much as in your case or when i go out and drink a lot.
You could look it up :)
I dont know how fast you were going or how much you weigh so I cant guess on the calorie burn.
Most overages are no problem if you are otherwise maintaining your calorie goals. It wont hurt you to indulge a little every so often.
But It cant hurt to work it off if you are routinely going over your goals. All this really does is put you into the next activity level. From "light activity" to "moderate activity" as an example. Meaning you will need more calories to "feed" that level of activity.
There is nothing wrong with that.
I know a 65 year old woman who rides her bike 12 miles to and from work. She says she does it "because I like to eat".
Personally, I live in a college dorm on a full required meal plan. I can't really control my food that well - what I can control is my exercise so I make that my number 1 priority. I love working out, I often work out 2 or 3 hours a day. I hate dieting. Some people would rather diet than exercise.
you definitely burned over 100 calories in an hour, probably closer to 250 or something like that if it was brisk and you were carrying weights. don't worry about going over if you're exercising more because ultimately your deficit would be the same and you wouldn't gain anything. whether the deficit is created through exercise or diet is irrelevant..calories in < calories out...the key to weight loss!
i used to do this back in the day when i first started losing weight. problem is, i would consider even a small unhealthy snack to be unacceptable so i began to work out hardcore to make up for even small screw ups. it got to the point where i eventually developed a form of an exercising disorder and i lost wayyyy too much weight in the long run. i say it's probably fine as long as you don't make a habit out of it. plus, it's okay to go over your calories occasionally. it keeps the body guessing and doesn't let it get used to the same amount of calories all the time. :-]
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
