Anyone want to do the Couch to 5K plan with me?
Here's the link to the Jogging plan: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.s html
I've been walking/jogging 2-3 times a week and doing a Circut Training vid or stationary bike at other times, since the beginning of May. The whole point was not only to be fit, but also to get ready for an up coming 5K with my best friend. Well, 5K is only 10 days away now and I'm feeling nervous that I haven't done enough training.
I heard about the Couch to 5K, and even though I'm a little late to the party I thought it would be good. So this week I am running 90 seconds/walking 2 Min. & I feel great after today's run!
Anyone else want to do this with me? (BTW remember to put what week you're on in your updates/posts)
I'm on week 4 and I love it! I've always wanted to be a runner but my knees are a little messed up so when I tried I would overdo it, and then be out completely for a few weeks. So it's been great for me.
Good luck with the 5K! That sounds exciting.
Thanks for the well wishes. :)
Running week 2:
I was so surprised how fast I made it around my block (approx. 3.25 miles in 40 min) yesterday, just alternating and watching my clock. I know that was running more than recommended in the plan, but since the race is coming up sooner than 7 weeks I need to go the distance. I don't think that's a good idea for someone just starting out, and looking to go the whole Couch to 5K plan, however.
Good Job Swivepenguin! Before I tried the plan I was always over doing it, too. Please check back in and keep updating.
I was planning on starting this.. I will start tonight.. Week one, day one! I used to run cross country in high school but always had issues with shin splints, so before I go out tonight I will try some specialized straches before and after. Hopefully that will minimize any issues.. I am going to do a 5k for charity in August and I was hoping to be able to atleast run most of the race.
I'm on Week 4 as well. I did the program a year ago using my treadmill and it worked great, for the treadmill. When I tried to run outside, I found I wasn't prepared and couldn't run very far at all. This Spring I decided to repeat the program running outside and it's going pretty well. I'm using a podcast to help me know when to walk and when to run. The first day of Week 4 was a little big hard, but the second time it went easier. I'm finishing up Week 4 tomorrow and will start Week 5 on Monday. I'm hoping to be able to do an actual 5k at some point. I recommend one of the many podcasts available because not only do they tell you when to walk and when to run, but there's music as well that helps make the time pass quickly. Good luck to you!
Awsome, Caverlady! Where can we find those podcasts?
I look forward to seeing your progress, Tia & Perfect.
There are several, but this is the one I'm using: Podcast
You can find the other ones by Googling "Couch to 5k Podcasts." It really does help, especially if you find one with music you like. The one I'm listening to has electronic music, which I like, but there are different types of music.
I'm on week 3 myself. My mom, sister, and I are all running a 5k in July. I'm a little nervous since I've never been a runner, but I'm excited as well. After looking at this I'm really glad I decided to train outside rather than on a treadmill. It really is a lot harder to run outside. So, wish me luck!
Hi! I'm about to start week 4 and I'm really nervous about how much I will be upping my workout.
What week is everyone on? Is it still easy to progress? I've found that it's been fairly easy so far and that it definitely gets easier the more times you do it. Any advise from anyone who is further along?
