Anyone want my protein powder?

Quote  |  Reply

I was thinking... I know a lot of us have gone through some trial and error with buying protein powder. I have already bought 3 different kinds to find a palatable one. From reading reviews online, it seems that some people are really sensitive to some brands and not others, so just because I hate something doesn't mean the next person will.

It seems like a shame to throw out my 2 lb tub of Body Fortress Vanilla that I used once and will never use again. Does anyone have whey that they didn't like that they'd want to trade? If you paid for shipping, I'd consider just sending it to you without a trade.

Emily - have you tried mixing it with other stuff?  I blended the BF Vanilla with peanut butter and a strawberry yogurt.  It was pretty yummy!

I thought about it, but my delicious milkshakes really motivate me to get to the gym...I'm not sure PB/yogurt would do it for me! But thanks for the tip- I'll try that.

I too bought a terrible vanilla whey powder, and yesterday a found a delicious combination of that (90 cal), 1 tblspn peanut butter, (95) 1 tblspn Hershey's lite chocolate syrup (25), and 1 cup of milk (100). About 300 calories, but you can reduce the milk to a half cup. First time I actually liked the shake I made with that powder.

Out of curiosity, how much do you guys pay for protein powder?  I lucked out in that the only kind at the health food store is actually really tasty (shakes taste just like chocolate milk) but, since there was only the one kind, I'm curious what protein powder "should" cost.

Edited to note that it's a flavoured whey powder.

So, I screwed up and bought a protein powder that isn't living up the others in terms of flavour.  I'd bought the vanilla of this brand before, and it was fine, so I decided to buy the chocolate.  This brand is higher quality than the other brand I was using (the other one has a gram or two each of carbs and fat per serving; this one's basically 100% protein), it seemed like a good idea at the time.  It's not that it's bad; it just tastes *exactly the same* as the vanilla.  And I wanted chocolate-flavour not butter-flavour (which is what the vanilla tastes like to me too, but I mix that with fresh fruit to dilute the effect).

So, my tip to you all:  If your protein powder doesn't taste great, toss in a teaspoon or two of cocoa powder when you're mixing up the shakes.  It's fixed my problem.  Though I'm still going back to the yummy chocolate milk-y brand once this tub is done.

I bought a variety pack from optimum nutrition. 120 cals, and just the right amount of protein. Flavors like orange cream, cookies & cream, strawberry, double chocolate, fruit punch.....They're all delicious so far, and I tend to mix them with either yogurt, icecream (treat!), and almond milk. I don't like regular milk that much, and almond breeze non-sweetened vanilla is only 40 cal for a 8 oz cup.

I would like to advice ppl against buying Spirulina brand unsweetened vanilla flavored protein powder (its a soy/pea/rice all veg blend). The unsweetened chocolate is freaking awesome and I can throw in some stevia powder for sweetener and it's 80 cal for 14g protein that tastes like chocolateness. But the vanilla? First off, it turns GREEN when you mix it. Second off, it tastes like crud.

I bought a huge thing of it too, over 30 bucks, and now i'm just trying to use it as fast as possible. I throw cocoa in it to hide the taste.
