I dont exactly know what a group does, or if its some kind of official or casual thing, but are there any other college kids here who have been overweight most of their lives.  Most of the posts I've seen are about 13 year olds who want to lose 10 lbs, or something, which doesnt interest me.

Welcome Amber! Isn't turkey sooo yummy though? Plus, apart from veggies, it's probably the healthiest holiday food to snack on throughout the day! It's lean, and the protein will help stave off hunger. I wouldn't worry about over-indulging in turkey. Chocolate truffles/ fudge/pie: yes; Turkey:no!

If you're afraid to gain weight, why not start going to a gym? I hate the gym on our campus but it's free so I go with my roomies from time to time (if they can drag my lazy ass there; it's freakin' cold outside! Thank- you Canadian wintertime!). Does your school gym have free student access?

hey amber!  it is nice to know that there are other people out there who are late bloomers, so to speak, and havent gotten into dating and stuff yet.  Thanksgiving is usually a day long buffet for my family.  I fear that i will gain weight too, but like i said before, its only one day, maybe two or three days if you count eating leftovers.  just eat well every day other than thanksgiving, christmas, etc...

Hola Amber welcome to our small but oh so amazing group :). I'm so pumped for thanksgiving.  turkey is one of my favorite foods and I can use the leftovers in some healthy casseroles...yay. I love to cook, even though mostly whatever I cook tastes like crap LOL.

Today was an amazing day as I got to see twilight (i'm a nerd I know) and I kinda had a normal eating day which was soooo good. I think my metabolism needs it cuz it seems like it starting to slow way down. But something really cool i found out is that I really don't care one way or the other if i had cheetos or carrots. And for met that's a huge step and before I would have gone for the cheetos and not given a second glance to the carrots. How about you guys do find that eating healthier is gettting easier for you as time goes on?

I SAW TWILIGHT LAST NIGHT TOO!!!!.. but I have to admit, I did not enjoy it. I normally find very few faults in movies but at times it was just "too much", you know? Everyone I know has read the books, so don't worry about being a nerd! And I'm speaking about a varied group of people, not just preteens, emos and goth kids, I swear.

Healthy eating has gotten SOOO much easier, almost intuitive. I would have starved 3 years ago instead of picking up an apple of some carrots sticks, but now that's what I crave. I leave the granola bars and Chipits alone- Give me some oatmeal! It just feels better to eat better. My only bad eating habit is that I often don't eat enough (I'm probably messing up my metabolism SOOO bad). I eat about 1200 by the end of the day and I hate going to bed with a full tummy so I don't bother eating more. I find that if I do, I wake up feeling bloated. It's something I have to work on obviously.

Is everyone else American? Thanksgiving on it's way? I kind of wish I was having a big turkey dinner on Thursday with you, but it lets the anticipation build for Christmas!!!

OOOh I LOVED the twilight movie...probably because I'm a die hard romantic.

As for the eating thing I don't thing I really eat enough either. My mind is set on 1300 cal and NO more. And by the end of the day i'm starving too. I was losing a lot of weight to begin with like 5-6lbs a week and i know that cant last but when I only lost .5 lbs this week i was like ohh crap. And I don't wanna mess up my metabolism as it was pretty fast. But it's so hard for me to even eat 1400 cals, So i will have to work on that.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I'm not sure if the gym is free at my school. I just tried to check & it has info about membership fees, but it says nothing about whether or not students can go for free.

But, I joined a gym two years ago, with a friend but I didn't go very often. I wasn't very comfortable there. Undecided

When I first started dieting, I kind of craved fruits, but after about 2 weeks, I'd want unhealthy food for a couple of days. It's a cycle for me.

I'm a bit apprehensive to see Twilight. I read the first 3 books, and I'm on the wait list at the library (I'm about number 250 Surprised)
From my experience, movies based off of books are changed way too much. I find it's better if I watch the movie before reading the book.

See the movie anyways, it's only about the 1st book. There's a new forum post about Twilight too. I was very disappointed with the 4th book, so don't get your hopes up! Ugh, I have to write an essay today and I'm completely procrastinating. I keep reading all the new posts instead of doing research :(. I'm also watching the food network- porn for dieters. It does give me a lot of healthy meal ideas though! When I went grocery shopping this morning I even managed to avoid cookies/ icecream etc. I was amazed by my own self control. We'll see if it keeps up!

I actually miss the convenience of cafe food and living on res. last year.

Hey everyone how was your weekend?? Mine was kinda hard, last night after doing sooo good all day i succumbed to my cravings (ttom is coming and my cravings get very intense)...mmm 2 bowls of cereal and 2 little bags of chips I felt so guilty afterwards.

And I know what you mean vron about cafe food...it's so nice to have the food all cooked and ready for you, but it's hard to always choose the healthiest things sometimes :).

i did alright except for one bad day where i ate 4 pieces of cheesecake.  it didnt effect my weight though and im back on track anyways.

Bulk barn was part of my Twilight adventure. Not good! I managed alright though since I haven't even touched the chocolate snow balls I bought (150 cals, 4 grams fat for 2! EEK!) and I shared the Christmas candy corn and eggnog almonds with my roommates. I don't think I went over my calorie intake this weekend, so it's all good. I try to eat really well throughout the week to allow one or two treats, or life just isn't worth it! I don't think I'll do the candy corn thing again- WAAAY sweeter than I remember it being- almost icky.

It's nice that you didn't gain anything, I don't think that 4 pieces are gonna kill ya if you don't do that every week! Sometimes, I would kill to know my actual weight. I'm way to cheap to buy a scale. I'll wait 2 weeks until my exams are done!

Okay, so this is unrelated to anything, but just now after dinner I thought to myself, "You know what would make an excellent dessert? Raspberries!". Well, I grabbed the package and started feasting upon the remains of yesterday's snack. I'm busy chomping away when suddenly, wait!- Was that a crunch? I spit out the myterious berry to find that there had been a bee carcus on the inside of the raspberry. I now feel sick, and I think it's going to be a good, long time before I ever eat raspberries again. I think that memory will haunt me forever. Shudder. I swear I can still taste it. :(

Icky

LOL...that is very gross...yuck!

WOOT! And so ends hump day!!!

I love knowing you've made it through the bulk of the week!

Do you mind if I join, 'cause this is the perfect group for me.

Age--20

Height--5'4

Starting Weight--200lbs

Current Weight--187lbs

Goal Weight--150lbs and then I'll reasses =]

The more the merrier! I must say, well done on loses 13 pounds already! Was that just through dieting? exercise? combination? I started around 200 too, and we're almost the same height so... WOOT!

I have a before n' after in my gallery, so if you want to see 5'4 around 150 pounds, that's what it is!

So, just curious. Where does everyone go to school?

P.S. For the Americans out there, HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Love, Canada.

I started dieting in September. I'm trying to eat healthier foods everyday and counting calories some days. I bought Wiifit in October and that and walking to class is my exercise.

150 looks great on you vron!

I'm going to school at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). I'm in my third year, and I enjoy it but I just can't wait to be done!

I think this is a great idea. Not many groups for college students on here. :) Here are my stats:

Age: 19

Height: 5'1

Starting Weight: 160lbs

Current Weight: 156lbs

Goal Weight: 110 ish

I officially started my 2nd or 3rd attempt the beginning of November and plan to stick it out all the way this time. I had a 3-day lapse last week... but I'm getting back on track.

Woot! Were you able to stay on track for Thanksgiving (if you're from the U.S. of A.)? Reading the other forums, there ha definitely been a good mix of people who believe they succeeded or failed, depending on their caloric needs. It's hard to eat right in college, especially when many of your friends don't think twice about downing a 24 of vodka over the course of an evening (with full calorie pop, of course) before headed out for pizza in a drunken bingefest. I am glad to say that I don't often take part in these, but the pressures are there!

Ugh, especially now that the semester is ended and people are taking the last opportunity to party before exams.

I was pretty good on Thanksgiving day... stayed well within my calorie limit. But the day after totally BOMBED lol oh my goodness. It was like an after party for me.

I ate like a pig on thanksgiving and today...it's so hard when your with friends and now I'm like why did i eat that extra custard I def. didn't need it! And now my stomach is probably all stretched out again lol. Tomorrow's another day though right?
