Anyone work in the hotel industry?
hey i am working monday thru friday as an administrative assistant but wanted to get a weekend job-- how much does a front desk person get paid to work at say, a hilton garden inn? anyone do this or know what the starting wages are close to? help a money-needing gal out!

Well I work at a Hampton (part of Hilton).
My starting wage was $8.50
Because the Garden inns are nicer, I'd expect you to be paid closer to $11.

damn, thats rough! i make 15/hr during the week... but i go to college for hospitality mgmt, so i feel like i need to start working in hotels soon! thanks!

Yeah, I don't think I get paid nearly enough, even now at $9.50.
But I don't think it's a typical example, the people I work for like to cut a lot of corners, I wouldn't be surprised it they could afford to pay us better, but would rather pocket the money.
I seriously do 6 jobs while I'm at work, and sometimes I don't even have enough time to eat or use the rest room.

It depends on the hotel and the location. Also, there may be a shift differential. You'll make more in a city then you would in a town. Also, you should look at it as gaining experience in your major so you won't have to be a lowly desk peon when you graduate!
The Comfort Suites I worked at started people at the desk at $6.50 or $7.50 if you worked nights.

well ive always waitressed at pretty decent fine dining places, making like 150 on the weekend nights... so going from like 20+/hr to 7.00 bucks i dont think is really worth it to me! i think ill wait for the degree and apply into management programs? aye aye aye...
