But I do it anyway...what do you STILL do, when you know better?

Ok, I've been on CC for nearly a year now.  I've pretty much met goals, and progressed with the excellent advice / opinions of the experts and fellow learners here...I consider myself MUCH more educated about my body and what I put into it.

Yet...even knowing all the potential bad points about them, I STILL consume artificial sweeteners, sometimes several a day (e.g. sweet n' low in coffee, aspartame in flavored bottled water, etc.).  I should avoid those when I can, considering they do my body no good and potentially even do harm.

What do YOU still do all the time, despite knowing better?  And I don't mean the occasional ice cream sundae or twinkie!

I too use splenda and equal several times a day, knowing better.

I still smoke, knowing it does nothing good for my body.

 I still drink diet sodas...

I still under eat at times or "compensate" for when I have a bad day, though I know I REALLY shouldnt

haha, it's funny, you use splenda when you shouldn't??!

Hi, my name is Nicole, and I'm addicted to sugar.

I have the biggest sweet tooth of anyone I know.  I crave sweet things after each meal (after breakfast this morning I caught myself jonesing for a cookie, wtf).

Sugar is my main issue.  I'm part owner of a business, so I have access to all kinds of food all the time.  This includes bad foods like whole milk, sugary granola, bacon, cheeseburgers, giant cookies, pastries, etc.  However, it also includes great for me things like spinach, lettuce, dried fruits, almond/soy/skim milk, teas, chicken, etc.

The problem I have is making myself eat the good things, because HEY i can get my grubby little fingers on whatever I want.  This includes when I get customers from hell (I work crazy early shifts starting at 4 in the morning (yes, FOUR A.M.)) and I reach for a cup of granola doused in whole milk. MMMMMMM, definitely not breakfast, BUT THE NAME SAYS BREAKFAST SO WHATEV.

I know better.  Sugar is my enemy, but also my favorite thing in the world.  This is why I'm a baker.  If I'm immersed in sugar for long enough, I get sick of it and don't want it anymore.  Silly little tricks I play on myself...

THis is a funny thread bc I've been thinking about this a lot.

My issue is WINE.  I _know_ I should really limit to 1 or 2 glasses... But then the wknd rolls around and I have a glass or two out at lunch... Then a couple after dinner... Hello extra 600 calories!

I _have_ been good about pretty much eradicating all weekday drinks (it makes it too easy to go over your calories), but the weekend is still a struggle.

I find it easy to indulge a little bit when I'm on maintenance, but I know it's really just not an option for me when I'm in losing mode.  This is all sounding pretty easy on a Monday.. :)

OH yes, I'm the same when it comes to wine...definitely a trap for me.  I CANNOT stop at one glass!!  I guess alcohol in general would be one of those "know I shouldn't but do it anyway" areas.

And I, too, try to compensate sometimes when I ought to just get back on the wagon (e.g. no dinner, since I ate too much at lunch).  Ugh....

Why is that funny?

I still over eat on somethings especially pizza! I can sit there and tell myself not to but I still do. I've gotten down to 3 slices max which is pretty good since I used to be able to devour an entire one alone.

I still smoke and I am trying really hard on that one. My co-worker next to me smokes so I go when she goes. ugh.

mindless snacking. The devil itself!

I think she meant that she thinks you using Splenda is a better alternative than having an addiction to sugar.

Hmm... Mine are kind of weird, because you can tell I try to make up for them in some way.

Well, I still use artificial sweeteners, but not much. A couple packets of Splenda every other day. In my green tea and on my apple slices. So I don't think it's an issue.

I eat instant oatmeal. Yes, it's loaded with sugar. But I just can't get that cinnamon roll flavor with rolled oats!! But once again, I've cut down on it and been using rolled oats with cinnamon and raisins all but one day of the week.

I eat sugary cereal. Yup. Coco Puffs. But mixed in with my Total.

I eat things with a long list ingredients I can't pronounce. But only when I find myself short on time. And it's always paired with a good helping of veggies :)

Wino confessional.  Me too.  Glad to know I am not alone!Undecided

I smoke, Itry to cut back back with the stress in my life, I seem not to be able to.

Ice cream, I am lactose intolerant and I know better.  I pay for it the next day, but at least once a month I indulge.

im pretty sure i eat more cheese than i should... =p

I do similar things to try to get my favorites into the "healthy" spectrum.  I know I shouldn't be eating cheese or mac and cheese, so I mix broccoli in until it's about 50 percent broccoli 50 percent mac and cheese.  I also keep nonfat slices around, even though I know there is zero nutrition there.

Oh, and every Sunday my friends and I make pasta dinner.   We started before I was on this site,  and I just can't bring myself to quit.  Sunday is almost always a no-deficit day because of it.

Oh alcohol.  I haven't had a drink since my 40th birthday in August.  I am looking forward to meeting my weight loss goals (only 10 pounds to go) and I am going to celebrate with a nice glass of wine (or maybe two)!

Margarine! I really do know how awful it is, blah blah, but i STILL have it on my toast every morning promising myself that this is absolutely the last time and i won't buy another packet (yeah, right.)Undecided

Mine is having a few "obsessive" low cal days.  I know logically it's better to have a higher calorie count, not to have over a 1000 calorie deficit.  But I always feel "proud" and smug if I end the day just over a 1000 calorie deficit.  Like HA see I CAN control my food intake.  Or if by 6pm I've only had 600 calories (generally it's because I end up in a situation I wasn't expecting and I'm away from home with no money etc).  Yes yes yes I know it's not good.  Fortunately it's not often, but it's years and years of disordered thinking when it comes to losing weight rearing it's ugly head.

I am a lucky kid in that I have no sweet tooth at all.

....

I drink a glass of wine or two every night. I force myself to have ONE alcohol free day a week. It doesn't even always happen! I've cut it down to about 100-250ml wine usually (it used to be half a bottle, boy had the other half), and I allow space for it in my calories, but still. Sigh. Wine, you are like an irrational badforme unfeasibly sexy girlfriend I just can't break up with.

Overeat at restaurants!

I look at the menu before I go, I have the great plan of what I can eat, and then when I get there, wham!  Some other dish calls to me, a battle ensues, and my stomach wins 90 percent of the time.

Oh, and beer... Embarassed

I don't  consider any food to be 'bad' I try to eat chocolate, candy, cookies in moderation.   I also use artificial sweetener in my homemade yogurt.

my big thing is my 1 and 2 yr olds. whenever I give them a snack (and they like to eat all day) Mommy has to taste test it first. And I still say that there should be a world wide ban on sugar...lol...at least for me. I have a little bite here, a little bite there (((((and I don't keep track of it cause those little bites don't count...right?????????))))

I still use my flavored cream in coffee every morning.  I know that stuff must be  horrible on the nutrition scale, but I can't drink coffee w/o it.
