Appendix

Quote  |  Reply
I had my appendix taken out a few months ago. I was on vacation when it happened and the ER doctor told me nothing about the surgery (like what they were going to do during surgery or anything). I didn't even see the doctor after surgery (if i did i was too doped up to know it). After I got out of the hospital I never saw anyone about the surgery again. I don't even have a primary care physician.  Does anyone know how long your stomach can be swollen for? I mean my outter scars are healed but ever since the surgery I can feel something hard in my stomach where the incisions are, maybe scarring under the skin? Another thing, I've always had strong ab muscles and ever since surgery It's almost like my body has forgotten how to use those muscles, is this possible?

I think you should go see a doctor? To see what they say, if its feeling hard there might be something wrong? I dotn want to panic you im not a doctor! But its advised from me!

I think you got treated badly! Could you complain to the hospital?? they should have taken much better care of you!

I had my appendix out too.  They have to cut through the muscle to get to the appendix, so it severs it but it should rebuild itself after a while.  It also felt like something hard was under my scar for a while...but not for as long as you describe it.  I say wait another two weeks or so and if it doesn't change than definitely go see a doctor, and if they find they left anything in there sue their asses off :)
Did the doctor tell you anything about the surgery? I had mine out before first grade and by then it was routine to do laser surgery- I had tiny incisions near the left hipbone, belly button, and up near the ribcage. You should definitely go speak to a doctor who can examine you and figure out what is what.
I had the minor surgery. Three incisions. One below belly button, one on pelvic bone, and one next to my hip bone. I don't think anything went wrong with the surgery. It doesn't hurt or anything and it healed fast. The hard thing under the skin could very well be a muscle I never noticed before. I was just curious if it's possible to scar under the skin. This was a curious question not a worried question. Not to mention do you know how hard it is to get a doctor where i live when you don't have health insurance? It's damn near impossible. But thanks for the input everyone.

hey. i had my appendix out when i was 10 which was nearly four years ago now! but i had it done keyhole which is done through three little scars. one of the scars was over my belly button was sewn up wrong and i got a hernia. after i had the same scar opperated on again i was sore for about a year:/.. and i still cant feel the scar because of the nerve.

lots of weird things can happen after your appendix but if yours is still sore then i would call up your doctor/consultant and see if theres anything wrong with it

i had to try chase up my doctor for months!

hope it gets better :)

I had my appendix taken out a month ago, so I'm still healing, but the scar tissue is going to be created everywhere there was an incision: on your skin, and on every layer of muscle that was cut through, so it's going to feel hard everywhere there is scar tissue. My surgeon told me to massage it lots (which feels gross...) because it helps to increase circulation and should help minimize the scar tissue.

I also had sweeling for a good month after surgery (I looked like I was fat even though I lost a lot of weight) and it's mostly gone down, but depending on how quickly your body usually heals, it might take longer. Think about how your scar looks... if it's not completely healed, then the same is probably true for and internal tissues too.

As for the ab muscles, I had an emergency appendectomy, so I have a huge incision down the middle of my abdomen, and needless to say my muscles are shot. Obviously, this is because the muscles and nerves are trying to repair themselves, but so far I've found that excersizing has helped--try doing swimming or yoga to work on core strength, and ab workouts that target the muscles that aren't a strong anymore.... I would suggest some but I haven't started any heavy exercising yet.
