Appetite killer capsules...safe??

Quote  |  Reply

So There is those natural pills that are made in china...

They are made of :Mulberry leaf, cassia seed, jobstears seed and medical amylum...

They are basically diet pills that are not suitable for pregnant women or women who are aged less than 16 or above 65...The pack and sellers promise that it has no side effects...

Does anyone know anything about these ingredients??...Do you think It is safe to try it out?...

you are supposed to consume one capsule daily and it helps with your appetite like makes you want to eat less...

Can I ask where you are buying these pills from?

The Dangers of Buying Diet Pills Online

Personally, I'd stick to balanced eating and portion control.

i suggest you research the ingrediants themselves....... my experience has been that no matter the pill or miracle it takes diet and exercise to get the weight off......

note: many diet pills contain tons of caffine....... just find low cal caffinated drinks and you will get the same results!!!!!!!

I did some research but didn't find information about all the ingredients...the conclusion that i came up with that they are natural chinese herbs that are used to lower sugar levels in your body ... ppl in china use them to treat diabetes...but that's about one or 2 of the ingredients ...the other 2 i found absolutely no information about them.

There are a lot of very dangerous 'natural' substances.... digitalis - an extract of common foxglove - can induce heart-attacks, for example.   Opium starts life as a very pretty poppy.  Whilst it's improbable that these pills are dangerous the best you can hope for is that they are harmless.  If they were effective then they would be prescribed to obese people.

BTW  Lowering sugar levels actually leads to increased hunger in people with normal blood-sugar levels.

The only thing that would be lighter once you'd bought these would be your wallet.  I would save your money.

Yeah, but be careful, and remember that just because it is a "natural herb," Fen-Phen was supposed to be too, and look what that did.  (Hoodia is also interesting in this sense.)  Seriously, there is no such thing as a quick fix.  My cousin is currently obese and a doctor (she has no time to work out and obesity does run in my family) and has told us that if there was a safe pill to suppress appetite or promote weight loss, she would have taken it.  This is her opinion as a doctor, so I take it to heart.  Personally, I think the way to go is diet and exercise.  Harder and takes more time, but 20 years from now they won't be finding that those give you heart conditions or strokes or something.

I'm sorry, but with all the problems China's been causing that's in the news lately, why would you want to buy a pill from them?  I mean if they will put poisonous ingredients in their BABY formula to make it look more nutritious just because it's a little cheaper, why not in supplements?

I have seen reports on many medical studies on appetite suppressants.  One thing they have in common is that they don't help the majority of people and they work better on thin people.  Why?  Most of us aren't over eating because our bodies tell us we need food.   We eat for other reasons.

As others have implied, "natural" is such a loose term. There's plenty of natural things that are not edible. I am also concerned about the safety of products coming over from China in general. Save your money and stay out of that store!

Thank you for that wonderful display of xenophobia. It may thus surprise you to know, that the poisonous ingredients in the baby formula was actually carried out by Fonterra, a New Zealand company. Yep, white people did it! Oops, our bad.

A little research on the Internet for each ingredient:

Mulberry leaf: may lower blood sugar (if you are prone to low blood sugar, this could cause major problems, ie fainting, dizzy spells)

Cassia seed: "loosens the bowels" - a laxative

Jobs tears seed: a grass seed sometimes used as a food source

Amylum: starch

None of these sound like they will help you eat less, and could cause some problems.

Hmmm, is it really fair to call it xenophobia  or could it be fair to be concerned about the numerous recalls of Chinese products? Baby formula, toys, toothpaste, etc. It is rather significant.

Here's just a few recent events that concern me:

Mattel recalls 18 million toys due to led poisoning: http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/ view.bg?articleid=1017301

Here's a tootpaste recall: http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/toothp aste.html

Here's a quote from an FDA official: http://www.fda.gov/ola/2007/chineseimport0718 07.htm

"While improvements have been made in some Chinese products with which we have had concerns in the past, there is unfortunately still a pattern of substandard products that continue to be shipped to the U.S.   As all of you are very well aware, this pattern has continued, and the safety of food and other FDA-regulated products from China have become a concern for FDA, Congress, and U.S. consumers. "

And most relevant to this thead, a list of botanical producst they are concerned about: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/ds-botl2.html

Natural does not equal harmless.

That being said, I understand only too well how difficult exercising portion control can be.

I have found that certain foods act as triggers to stimulate my appetite, namely refined sugar and white flour.

If you can isolate your triggers, you should be able to control portion size and calorie intake.

I started Feb 1st at 284 lbs and now weigh 215 lbs.  No pills, no shakes or anything like that. I can truthfully state that as long as I eat clean I feel satisfied with my portion size.  So it does work.

(Believe me I have tried numerous diets over the years and never managed to lose all the weight, and always gained it back and then some, getting progressively heavier and unhappier. )

I really feel happy and healthy and in control.  If I can do it, so can you!

I forgot to mention that I have been using it for a while now ... I really do get hungry less and It had great effect on my appetite...however I do feel sometimes that my heart is beating fast (don't know if it because of it or stress)....and actually it acts the exact opposite of a laxative...

however by looking at the info about each ingredient ... I don't see it as harmful ... It seems to me as if I am drinking Chinese tea...It hasn't killed my appetite but it has definitely killed binging for me

I'm not saying that many of the products made in china are of distressingly poor quality. What I am objecting to is that the crux of thmheh's argument seems to be "Don't take Chinese herbs because they poison BABIES!111!!! eleventyone" Which is both stupid and xenophobic. As if the motives of every Chinese can be garnered by the fact that some of their products are shonky.

Well I think you are reading too much into that post. There is call to be concerned about the products coming out of China-- and I don't see where there was any negative comment made about every individual Chinese person.  Could you reference your statement too about the baby forumula? I'm curious because I haven't seen that update in the news.

It is highly possible that I'm reading too much into the comment. But I think the comment "If they will put poisonous ingredients in their BABY formula to make it look more nutritious just because it's a little cheaper, why not in supplements?" Its the use of "they" that irritates me. The people who manufacture the baby milk are not the people who manufacture the supplements.

And here is one of the many news stories about fonterra's link to the chinese milk company (I overstated the position before based on some bad info - Fonterra dont make the baby formula, they just own the company that do.)
