Apple Cider Vinegar

Quote  |  Reply

Does anyone have any experience using apple cider vinegar for weight loss or maintenance? I swear that my green tea every day helps me lose weight a bit more efficiently, and it has so many other health benefits, I've decided to make it a permanent feature of my lifestyle. I've read that vinegar helps prevent some weight gain, so I'm considering it as a maintenence tool. I'll be at my goal weight very soon and I'm worried about regaining all I've lost. I've done that more times than I can count. Any info you have, such as how much to take, and when, would be interesting. I know it's about how many calories you take in, but any little boost would be useful, don't you think?

Here are a few sites that purport the health benefits and weight loss associated with one's consumption of apple cider vinegar.  It is new information for me, so I shall have to do more research about taking it.

I recommend reading this article from WebMD first, before reading some of the other articles.

From personal experience, please don't believe any claims that ACV cures acid reflux.

Back in the Victorian era vinegar diets were popular.  The idea was that vinegar being an acid would somehow cut through fat.....  It's all rubbish, of course. Drinking vinegar might leave a bad taste in your mouth and put you off your food but that's about the size of it.   The only things that influence your weight are how much you eat and how much exercise you do.  If your 'calories in' match your 'calories out' on a reasonably steady basis you'll maintain your weight.

Vinegar is nice as a dressing.... does nothing for your weight.

Sour things slow down the sugar from carb entering our system (the insulin thing). I have known many Asian ladies who use apple cider vinegar to help maintain their ideal weight due to their high carb diet (rice, noodles, congee). Actually, anything sour will do the trick. eg. malt vinegar on french fries, vinegar & oil salad dressing, granny smith apple, Chinese hot & sour soup, Indian resam & tamarind soup, acidic fruits like sour pineapple, sour plums, grapefruit juice, etc. with your meals work just as well. But if you dislike sour food, then a couple teaspoon of apple cider vinegar is an easy option on a high carb meal. It is also good as a gargle first thing in the morning during allergy season to clear an itchy throat. Hope this helps.
