Keep apples from browning?

Quote  |  Reply

Does anyone have a tip to keep cut apple slices from turning brown?  I like to keep them on hand for my toddler and within minutes they turn brown.  Any ideas are appreciated!

Try tossing them with lemon juice.  That should keep them looking good for a while.

Lemon juice.  I keep a bottle on hand and mix it with some water, dunk my sliced apples for a minute or two and they stay nice and fresh.  If you're at home, just keep them in water in the fridge for the day.
there's this stuff that's sold in the 'mason jar' section (I can't remember what it's called)  but it comes in liquid form or spray form and it's tasteless.  you spray it on fruit (or anything else that turns brown in minutes)  and it keeps food from going brown.

My neighbor mixes the liquid form in her Guacamole dip and it doesn't go brown...

I use salt water to keep it from browning.

Dip/spray them with lemon juice and keep them in a ziploc bag in the fridge.

dunk  them in clear soda like seven up or ginger ale. Reduced the browning quite well. It can be diet if you want.

Buy organic.

You can leave an organic apple out at normal room temperature for a whole day and they don't really go brown.  The reason  - it's not the apple that goes brown, its the stuff that they inject into the supermarket bulk buy apples to make the apples "juicy".

Otherwise yes, the lemon jiuce works.

lemon juice!

Pineapple juice works as well or  better than lemon juice.  I use pineapple juice everytime I cut apples and it works great.

You're an idiot.  Eat non-organic foods; I think the organic ones have made you dumb.

This is just the first link that came up on Google, but I've never heard on any show, in any book, on any webpage that it's the stuff they inject into apples that make them turn brown.

Anything with vitamin C works I think.  So lemon, lime and orange juice would all work.  If that is too sour perhaps add a sweeter juice to what you are using
