Apples- why do you make me feel hungry??

Quote  |  Reply
Here's the scoop. I love apples as a snack and usually have one a day. (an apple a day keeps the docs away- right?!)

My issue is that after eating an apple, I feel full but it gives me an empty feeling that makes me feel like I am hungrier than I was before- eventhough thats not the case.

So, does anyone know why this happens? Is it the fiber?

Am I the only one who feels "empty" after eating an apple?

Thanks. :)

Would prefer to have PB with an apple but PB isnt the safest thing for me to have in the house.

I'll have a piece of chicken, few slices of turkey or string cheese before eating an apple and it helps.  Otherwise, get cravings afterward.

Oh, this happened to me, and not because I was really hungry.  For some reason, an apple alone and I am hungry - legitamitely hungry w/in 15-30 minutes.  Personally, yogurt or a peice of cheese and the apple does the trick for me in that I am not hungry w/in 15-30 minutes.  I assume it's becuse an apple is natural sugar=carb (not an empty calorie), so, sinceI eat something with th apple  am good to go for a couple/few hours.  Thanks for the post and it mut be nice to know you're not alone - for that matter alot of us are not alone : )

Wow! I've never heard of apples making a person more hungry before! Whenever I'm hungry or just wanting to munch I have an apple. Pairing one with a diet Coke is my favorite low cal snack- only 65 calories and I'm full for a few hours.

I usually eat 3 apples a day- mid morning, mid afternoon, and evening snack. Yummy :)

The problem with apples is that they are purely carbs and nothing else, and carbs will always leave you with that "empty" feeling.

sorry to have to disagree with you, yalcekim. I have the "hungry" issue with apples, but not with any other fruit or even pasta for that matter.

so miril, you are not alone, but i have no answer for you as to why. i can say that i'm pretty sure it's not because of the fiber. fiber generally fills you up and i don't have the hunger issue with any other fiberous foods.

Same here......... I think apple being fibrous in nature accelearates gastric amtying, hence we feel empty.. also requires energy to consume it  ....... whereas.. u feel fuller after eating bananas because of ready source of energy/glucose..............

i had tried apple for one year and bananas for another year ( daily 2).........

Both are good for health..... so not to worry...
