Apples & the Microwave oven

Quote  |  Reply

Do you micro apples or apple slices?

Ive got an apple overage and living alone, thinking to micro them before I end uip needing to toss them.  I tried this once a while back after reading someone doing it with splenda & cinnamon.  It was nice but I was to lazy to repeat and dont remember the specifics anyway.

SO
if this is something you do, any specifics (aside from what apples, cant choose as theyre here - red deliscious) would be appreciated.
  Sliced/whole?
  Time in micro?
  Plain or sweeten?
  If sweetened, before or after?
Alternates as Ive plenty of extra apples
Hold my hand on this - I dont cook
  Embarassed

~Sliced or chopped is better for microwaving. Whole works better in an acutal oven.

~Depends on the quantity. I go 45-60 seconds for one.

~Brown sugar, cinnamon and a bit of coffee creamer (can use water instead)

~Whilst cooking. Sometimes add raisins too.

Makes a great oatmeal or yogurt topping. Its essentially apple pie sans crust.

I used to make a pseudo apple crumble in the microwave:

Cut up one apple in chunks (I don't peel it). Toss with cinnamon & a little brown sugar. Top with quick oats. Microwave for 60 seconds and check the apples for softness. If not, pop it back in for 30 second intervals. Tastes great with a spoonful of vanilla frozen yogurt or ice cream on top!

If you have a baker oven:

Core the apple.  Place apple in pan.  Put a tbsp (or 2) of jam inside.  Sprinkle cinnamon over the top.  (I use lots of cinnamon.)  Cover with Al. foil.  Bake at 350 deg F for 20-30 min until apple is warm and squishy.

It's best if you do this with three-four apples at a time.  They keep very well in the fridge.

Microwave baked apple - cut an apple in half and scoop out the core with a melon baller tool.  Fill the cavity with sugar free jelly or no sugar added fruit spread, or an ounce of diet soda or apple juice, sprinkle with cinnamon, and microwave, covered, for 1 to 2 minutes, or until soft as you like it.

sometimesss, i chopp up an apple and put it on a platee and thenn sprinklee some cinnaminn and sugarrr on topp of it and then microwavee it. yumm !

You can microwave al kinds of fruit. I'm a lazy fruit eater, don't know why, I know it's good for me, I know it's delicious, I just enjoy savory over sweet choices except.....

I recently have become hooked on fat free cool whip and have been searching out healthy excuses to put it on top of something. I started with a microwaved apple with cinnamon - yum - and recently added a peach - ooouha - and a couple of days ago sliced up a banana - oh my god! Microwaved fruit salad with a dollop of cool whip has made my life whole again. Don't forget the cinnamon!

good idea thank you
