apples...apples...and more apples
so we have an apple tree in our yard. we just picked them all so that we could get them before they start falling. the problem is, we have no idea what to do with so many apples
so if anyone has any ideas about what to do with them (ie: things we can bake) i would love to hear your suggestions.
this is what i have so far:
muffins, apple pie, and apple turnovers
P.S. also trying to watch calories

apple sauce!
i also think apple sauce is a good idea. you can make a whole big batch of it with all of the apples you have and then refridgerate it so it keeps. :)
Give some to the neighbors!
P.S. Could use some of that applesauce in your low-fat baking (of cakes, brownies, muffins, etc)!

Hmmm, maybe experiment and make low cal versions of apple jam, apple brown betty, apple "butter", carrot & apple soup, apple salad, baked apples, apple & pear cake, apple-rhubarb betty, applesauce-raisin cookies... and so on!
/tk
bake or stew them....ahh bliss
baked apples with cinnamon (and/or) maple syrup.
dice them up, and sautee them with honey and you get natural, YUMMY, homemade JAM !!! :D
apple crumble mmmm
apple butter - like apple sauce but thicker. If you want, you can can it and have cute little Christmas gifts for people - pair it with a little loaf of apple bread, stick it in a basket or tin, and it's perfect! My mom always did it, and people loved them.
- Roast them with chicken or pork
- Waldorf salad
They are AMAZING in Oatmeal with Cinnamon and PB and Sugar Free Maple Syrup and maybe a splenda or 2... cook all that in the microwave and ......... MAN is it good... seriously haha its a Must try
Apples go great in chicken salad. I made a delicious pasta salad with penne, chicken, apples, pears, and lemon poppyseed dressing (made from fat free mayo, fat free sour cream, lemon juice, poppyseeds, and Splenda--delicious!)
I just got a cereal recently that had apples in it, I don't know how fresh apples would taste in cereal... I do know apples in fruit smoothies are really quite delicious!!!!
This weekend I baked an apple crisp desert, it was from the box though. I don't know how to bake anything fresh :(((((
I however, would not be upsetted at ALL if you stuck a whole bunch of apples in a super refridgerated container and shipped them to me in Southern California!!!!!!!! OK! I HAD to try!!!!

I have just found the most delicious dessert, and the best part it is sooo filling and only 125 cal. Ok you take a whole apple and cut it into chunks (80) cal for a medium size one, warm them in the microwave for about 2 min or until really soft add a sprinkle of cin and then take 1/8 cup of grape nuts trail mix cereal( more than enough) and sprinkle on top. Micro for another 10 sec of so, mix it up and viola! Yummy low cal apple crisp! So filling and warm in the tummy! Perfect for fall.Plus packed with nutrient and good stuff for you. Let me know what you all think...I LOVE IT!!!

It's almost apple season here. We buy a bushel and last yr canned applesauce. This yr I may try freezing it. It's simple and you can adjust the sugar, to suit yourself.
A relative helped and she added some elderberry juice to give it a little color. I don't have that, so don't know what I can use. My mother didn't add anything and hers looked fine.
There were nights last winter when I wanted "something", but didn't know what, and a big bowl of my applesauce just hit the spot.
Yrs ago we used to eat Waldorf salad a lot. Never hear of that anymore............hmmmm. Think I'll fix some this week.

Maybe try baking with them .. maybe low fat apple breads or muffins or no sugar added apple pies and freeze them.. then they will stay fresh. My mom always freezes breads and stuff they still taste great.. just make sure they are sealed correctly :)
Having a good supply of unsweetened applesauce on hand is great for baking desserts such as cakes or brownies. You can replace that 1/2 cup of oil with 1/2 cup of applesauce and your dessert comes out PERFECTwith MUCH less fat and calories.
I do this even though I don't eat the desserts, I figure my children could benefit from a healthier recipe, even for "goodies". And they couldn't tell the difference.
